any DVC member ever had problem booking a resort they want 11 months in advance? Since there are so many members and new members joining all the time... is it hard to get what u want? I'm under contract with March UY and usually would like to go to WDW around March, April, Sept. Oct. and early December. I just booked a December 9 vacation last week at the all star - (cash- cause i'm not a member yet) and it was pretty simple. But wondering what would it be like if i had booked as a DVC member, would it be just as easy at the SSR?

If you bought at SSR, than THAT is where you can book at 11 months out. You would be able to book at the other DVC's at 7 months out.

So, which resort are you buying at?

Bobbi :)

i bought at SSR.. well pending sale and waiting for ROFR. but no points till 2008, 68 points coming march 2007.
my concern is if its difficult to reserve in any resorts at all. It seems like there are just so many members.

At 11 months, only people who own at the same resort as yourself can book there. So if you own SSR, no BWV, BCV, OKW, HH, VWL or VB owners can book there until 7-months.

Your only 'competition' for SSR then is other SSR members. But SSR has more members only because it's a larger resort. So proportionally it's no different than any of the other resorts and owners. If we just threw some numbers out and said VWL had 100 members and 10 rooms available for a specific night, and SSR had 1000 members and 100 rooms available for a specific night, mathematically there is no difference.

The only issue you face is how many members want the same dates as yourself. Of those 1000 members and 100 rooms, if it's a popular time, maybe 120 want it for that night, but only 100 will get it.

But if only 90 people want that specific night, then you get it for certain.

Some other things to keep in mind. Not all SSR owners have full contracts. Many were add-on's, and even some smaller resales. Someone with 50 points for example, may be banking and borrowing to have 150 points available every 3 years. So 2 years out of 3, they're not even trying to book a room at all.

Hope this helps

The way the 11 month window works is very fair. Reservations for everyone in a given resort open up 11 months prior to the date. Lets say you have a March UY and I have a April UY at SSR.

Here's an example:
If we both wanted to vacation on June 1st 2008, the FIRST day either of us could make that reservation would be May 1st 2007. No SSR member could have made a reservation earlier than that - it's open to everyone with points available on the same date regardless of UY.

This is why some members do day by day reservations during high-demand weeks (like Christmas). If you want to reserve an entire week (say June 1-9th of 2008), the first day that the system would allow you to make the entire reservation would be on May 9th, 2008) BUT you could call on May 1st for June 1st, and then keep calling each day until you had the entire week.

Once you are in the system, there's a nice feature on DVC.Com that shows you how many points you have for each use year, and the exact date you can start booking for both your home resort and other resorts. It's very helpful.

I think you reversed your dates here- you are only giving a 1 month window to book - for a May 1-9 2008 reservation the first day you could reserve is June 9, 2007 for the whole reservation or May 2, 2007 for a day by day reservation.
