Thinking of purchasing BLT on resale. Is it possible to be shut out at home resort when booking at 11 month mark? I guess anything is possible but does this happen?

You will not be shut out booking BLT at the 11 month window. There are 3 different views available: standard, lake view, and Magic Kingdom view. There is a chance the standard view rooms will fill up the first day of the 11 month window but you will definitely have your pick with the other 2 views.

For select days like New Year's Eve, yes it is very possible to get "shut out" when calling right at the 11 month window.

If you wait until the afternoon, for example, it is likely that it could already be fully booked.

Keep in mind that you aren't just competing with people calling that day. There are people who could have already booked that date the entire week before you called if it was part of their vacation stay.

So by the time you hit your 11 month window, the resort could already be 80% or more sold out for that first date.

Other times of the year are much easier if you call at 11 months. But there is no guarantee of availability even though the success rate at that time is very good.

stating the obvious just to be clear: it doesn't matter for booking purposes whether you bought direct or resale.

Since they changed booking from your day of departure to your day of arrival plus six more nights, it is possible that others could book up all the category you want the six nights before you can even book it.

For example, you want 12/31. Others start booking for 12/25 and book it all up.

Anything can happen when booking a reservation. 11 month booking is best chance to ger reservation.

Just booked on the exact day of our 11 month window for Saturday-Saturday over Thanksgiving week 2012. Not a problem. Now I will admit, I called at 9AM SHARP, but got the view we wanted at BLT so you should be fine most times of the year.:)

The only rooms I have ever been shut out of was standard view at the 11 month window later in the day. I probably could have gotten it if I waitlisted that day but decided to try out a theme park view and we ended up on the 14th floor with a great view that made it so worth it.

Same thing here although I did call right at 9am and the standard view was not available. I waitlisted for it that day but then the next day decided to book the theme park view. There wasn't any problem getting a room - just getting the view that I had hoped for. This was for an early Dec trip.

We own at BLT, and I called at 9:00 a.m. sharp at my 11 month window. While I was able to get what I wanted, not all of the views were available. I didn't really care as much about the views and had plenty of points for what I was doing, so it wasn't a factor. However, I think what some of the previous posters are saying is true based on what I experienced---other DVCer's could already have rooms booked because their stay starts before yours, so the view you want could be taken already. Just thought I'd share my 11 month booking experience (or lack thereof since we are fairly new members:)) just in case it would help answer your question.

It actually happens not uncommonly but mostly for high demand times and options with low availability. In general, concierge, 3 BR and BW/standard/value view options are the main issues. If you don't need one of these and are willing to call day 1 reservations are available, your chances are good but even then there are no guarantees. If you ask the same question related to the 7 mo window, it's common to be shut out completely for a given resort. For BLT it's hard to recognize trends because resorts in active sales always have more availability than demand.
