Okay, this is kind of complicated, but here is my situation. Next year I want to stay at the BCV Dec. 31 for 4 nights followed by the 3 night cruise. However, the points for the cruise will not be released until March and I am told I therefore can't book until March. So in case the points are way too high when they are released I want to book all 7 nights at BCV just so we have it in case we choose not to do the cruise. However, that would take 173 BCV points. I have 100 BCV points in my use year. So I could borrow from the 100 BCV points in the nexy use year. However, what would happen to the borrowed points if I cancelled? I totally do not understand what happens to borrowed points. Also, we have plenty of Boardwalk points so I could just book the Boardwalk with borrowing no points and then try to switch over to the BCV at the 7 month mark. So I guess my questions are:
what happens to borrowed points if the reservation is cancelled?
what are my odds of getting into BCV at the 7 month mark for the first week of Januray?

Sorry that was so long, but any help would be appreciated!

From my understanding of the process is that the points would go back into your account. The only exception would be if the ressie was cancelled after the 30 day mark, then it goes into the holding account. Also I've heard January is a slower season and your chances may be pretty good. I'm sure there are plenty of veteran DVC'ers that have been in Jan...I have never travel to WDW in the winter months.

As long as you cancel at least 31 days prior to arrival, the borrowed points go back into your account and they may be used for another reservation. The borrowed points will expire at the end of the use year into which they were borrowed. They cannot be returned to their original use year.

However, you could make sure to use borrowed points for the portion of the reservation that you are sure you will use. Then the points from the days that you cancel (let's hope you can still afford the cruise, LOL) will be current use year points. Assuming you are within your banking deadlines, you could bank those points if you had no other plans for them.

Best wishes -

Okay, if I use 100 BVC points from my December 2006 use year and then borrow the additional 73 necessary BCV points from my December 2007 use year and then cancel the trip where will my 73 borrowed points end up? 2006? 2007? It is just so frustrating that they say you can book cruises 11 months in advance when this is not even true! I am a little fed up with member services right now, I can't get the answers to any of these questions from them, so, I came to the DISboards!

If you borrow 2007 use year points to make a reservation, the points become valid for stays that fall within your 2006 use year. (12/1/2006 through 11/30/2007). Borrowing is a final transaction - borrowed points cannot be returned to their original use year.

If you cancel the reservation (that I assume begins on 12/31/2006), the borrowed points are returned to your account. They must be used before the end of your 2006 use year (11/30/2007) or they expire and are lost.

The 2006 use year points may be banked if you are unable to use them before 11/30/2007. (Subject to the banking deadlines).

So any borrowed points that were restored to my account if I cancelled can't be banked?

That's correct, borrowed points cannot be banked.

Once you borrow points, and transfer them from one use year into another, they are permanently placed into the new use year and must be used within that use year, or be lost.

Also, have you already booked your Dec 31st night. (That's New Year's Eve, and is THE most popular night in all of DVC, expecially for the BWV and BCV resorts due to their proximity to Epcot.)

Day-by-day booking for New Year's eve started yesterday (Feb 1st).

I got around this problem by booking the disney cruise for cash. I used cruise value center they were 6800 for two rooms on 7 day cruise for 7 people wich was over 1000 dollars cheaper then disney and other website sites for the same cruise. Then I sold 680 points on the DIS to cover the bill. Another benefit is to book the cruise for points would have been 1235 points. Even if I had booked through Disney directly it would have been $8200 or sell only 820 points at $10 per still saves points.

Another question to ask member services is when you cancel can they give you back the current years points first instead of the borrowed so they could be banked if needed

I am going to book Dec. 31-Jan. 4th at BCV. This will take 106 points, so I will borrow 6 points. I already have the 31st and 1st done. Also, those are the nights we for sure want to be at BCV. Then I will book the 4-7th at BWV, where we have plenty of points and won't have to borrow. Then when the cruise points come out, if they are reasonable I will cancel the BWV portion and book the cruise. If the points have gone way up from the 2007 points I will try to switch over the BWV to BCV, but I will be fine with a split stay if that isn't possible. Pretty complicated just to get my 4 nights at BCV and 3 night cruise!
