11 Days of Two Squirrels Eating for Free! 9/29 Goofy's Candy Co./Earl of Sandwich/Pop

The paw print brownie looks so good! I don't think I could eat a whole one, but I'd love to try one anyway. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info on the Landry card and the state you register. I, too, am in PA....but on the other side! T-Rex is on my list for my trip next month. Their salads are really good.

hi:flower3:.... just to let you know im in:cloud9:
you re doing alot of places we have got planned, french onion soup is very easy to do, id recommend you do it in a crockpot as it takes time for the flavour to develop...
dh has a pawprint brownie on his "to do" list, and im allergic to coconut but still want a chocolate elephant lol!!

I am so trying that elephant cupcake next week! I am not a fan of pecans, so I guess I can pick them off.

Pecans are very easy to avoid ;) definitely worth it - the cupcake itself was delicious!

Thank you so much for your reviews! I just added T-Rex to our upcoming trip because of you!

You won't regret it! Both of the meals we had at T-Rex were great! I'll have a few pics of the actual food in my next review of T-Rex... that meal was mostly appies though :)

I definitely wouldn't attempt to eat a whole one myself! You might go into a sugar coma (which we basically did after eating both the brownie and cupcake). I feel like Disney just injects the sugar into you! On my next trip I want to search for more savory options for snacks, I think.

I was so disappointed to learn that we couldn't buy alcohol with my rewards :rotfl: I really wanted a cottonini! Apparently if you register in Florida you can use the rewards on alcohol. They had a whole lamented list of all their rules per state.

Good to know about the french onion soup :thumbsup2 we don't own a crockpot but something to look into definitely :scratchin I'm glad I'm reviewing a lot of the places you're going to! We had amazing meals everywhere we went so keep a look out for some more great reviews in the next week or two :)

I'm going to combine our breakfast and lunch into one review as we only used a credit each.

DBf was craving some meat in the morning and we were headed to Blizzard Beach today even though it was a torrential downpour. We decided we would stop at Everything POP for some hearty breakfast eats.

Bounty Platter
Scrambled eggs, potatoes, biscuit, cinnamon french toast sticks, sausage, and bacon
(stolen from Google)
x4oehd.jpg

Let me start off by saying this was our most disappointing meal of the entire trip. I'm kind of glad that I lost the picture to this meal. Granted some of that may have been our fault as we walked back to the room to eat and so most of the meal had gotten cold. But seriously?! Everything was gross. I think I took a bite of the bacon and was like :confused3! DBf powered through it and finished the entire plate, but he wasn't impressed at all. He didn't understand how they could even find such low quality bacon! We get the cheapest stuff we can find in Philly and it's still 500% better than POP bacon!

After our disappointing breakfast we headed to Blizzard Beach where we got through the entire park in two and a half hours as not a soul was there.

We stopped at Lottawatta Lodge right before we left to use a counter service credit to get a hot chocolate, a caesar salad with chicken, and a chocolate cake.

I can't find a picture of this, but its was decent. We were really craving veggies. I eat a salad every day for lunch, so I was SO happy to get some mid-day greens in me. The cup of dressing they gave was kind of ridiculous. I'm glad they let us put the dressing on ourselves because I would had hated the salad if they poured all that dressing on it.

I didn't eat the chicken in the salad as it was cold & breaded and I only like cold chicken when it's grilled. I'm strange, I know. DBf had no complaints when it came to this lunch. It was kind of funny that we were at Blizzard Beach and it was kind of cold and we had hot chocolate - perfect theming!

The chocolate cake was yummy, but I'm weird and love the little chocolate cakes at the counter services restaurants :lmao:

We stopped for drinks at the Territory Lounge before going to dinner this night. However, I really don't remember what we got. I might have gotten the Captain's Mai Tai and DBf got something with Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey in it. I don't have my pictures, so I'm just not sure! They were both yummy, and I'm glad we got to stop at the bar before dinner!

This review of Whispering Canyon Cafe is kind of moot because they just changed the menu and got rid of all the desserts we ordered. Anyway...

We each ordered a milkshake. I think I got chocolate and DBf got strawberry.

Chocolate Milkshake
bottomless-milkshake.jpg

(Stolen from DFB)

I think I only took like three sips of my milkshake and DBf had the rest. I just wasn't in the mood for sweets tonight. :confused3 Plus I had ordered another cocktail. The Northwestern Sunset which had Bacardi Coco & Bacardi Silver, Pineapple juice and a splash of cranberry. Sadly couldn't find a pic of this, but it was soooo much better than a milkshake ;) DBf got a Yuengling, I believe.

Cornbread

(Stolen from DFB)

This was DELICIOUS!!!!! I never eat cornbread but this stuff was off the hook!

Salad

(Stolen from DFB)

We each had a bit of this, but we were here for the meat!!

All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Skillet
dh7ssx.jpg

(Stolen from Google)

This was terrific! We got a refill of the entire thing. We're piggies. We know.

And finally.... we catch up to the point in the trip where I have pictures!!! I apologize in advance for the lighting of the two below pictures, our table just had weird lighting going on and I'm definitely no professional photographer.

S'mores
67645k.jpg

I was too full from dinner. I think I had half a s'more and DBf had the rest. These were okay, but nothing to write home about.

Berry Mousse
rwqhc9.jpg

Another perfect dessert for DBf he finished this and the rest of my dessert. He was very uncomfortable the rest of the night and had a bit of a 'tude because he was overstuffed.

Overall impression: this place was good. The skillet was good and our server was hilarious. We really enjoyed the antics of this place. I was a bit nervous about them at first, but DBf and I both have a sense of humor and act like children anyway so it was all good. Our waiter sang us a song for our anniversary which was funny. Overall, we would come back! Especially if we have little tykes ;)

Today was our Hollywood Studios day! We got here right before the park opened and stayed until about midnight. It was a long day - but we had some good eats.

I knew that after we made the mad dash to ride Toy Story Mania twice and got fastpasses we had to make a stop at Starring Rolls Cafe!

I already knew what I wanted here, but I still took pictures of the display case! Sorry for the terrible quality, there was a Spanish speaking family that I couldn't communicate with and they didn't really feel like moving even after they had ordered.

Not sure why I didn't take a picture of the center after I had cut it open, probably too excited to eat it! :confused3

Wow, was this thing out of this world. Red Velvet is my FAVORITE cake. I was hoping this was going to be amazing, and it was. If you haven't gone to Starring Rolls yet - seriously what are you doing?!

We had reservations for Sci-Fi Dine-In around 11:45am and were seated promptly.

DBf had no idea what to expect and he LOVED that it was actually a drive-in where we got to sit in cars. He was also obsessed with the movies, like I knew he'd be. So another great decision by DGf ;) :lmao:

For our drinks we ordered...

Oreo Cookie Milkshake
33dcv2h.jpg

Chocolate Milkshake
6p8chv.jpg

I made the wise decision of ordering the oreo cookie milkshake and I drank all mine before our meals even arrived. So it must of have been good :goodvibes There was no complaints from DBf about his milkshake so I'm sure he enjoyed his as well.

For lunch we ordered and split...

Angus Chuck Double Bacon Cheese Burger
Two flame broiled beef patties topped with cheddar or Swiss cheese, crispy bacon, lettuce and vine-ripened tomatoes, served with a choice of cucumber salad or french fries
ejemmu.jpg

(I ordered my burger with cheddar cheese and without the lettuce and tomatoes and obviously got french fries)

Rib-eye Steak
With garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, served with red wine sauce
5n3bsm.jpg

I was expecting to hate this food after all the bad reviews I've read - especially about the steak. Although this wasn't the best steak we had all week, it was much better than the steaks we normally buy here in Philly (granted we're on a poor college student's budget so we just buy what's on sale).

We probably went over board ordering a double cheeseburger, but we were feeling hungry and didn't end up regretting ordering the double. For some reason I thought that the patties would be thinner, but DBf was kind of shocked when he saw this :rotfl2: It was kind of three meals in two? Our plates were entirely cleaned. The sides were all great too :thumbsup2

For dessert we had a bit of trouble at this restaurant because of DBf's nut allergy. I believe his only choice besides the fruit salad was...

Hot Fudge Sundae
Vanilla ice cream with hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry
a0cq9s.jpg

Peanut Butter-Chocolate Cake
Warm chocolate cake with a creamy peanut butter center served a la mode
1e1lvs.jpg

Clearly we didn't share desserts at this restaurant. I think that DBf said his sundae was a standard sundae, so nothing special but he still ate it all. I was expecting a bit more from my peanut butter-chocolate cake. I was expecting more peanut butter, I guess? Also my ice cream rapidly melted, as you can see from my picture. I regretted not going with the red velvet cheesecake, which was DBf's original choice until he found out it had nuts all over it or something.

Overall impression: we would definitely come back, especially for the theming, but would probably want to try 50's Prime Time before doing so.

We were quite full from our lunch at Sci-Fi so spread the rest of our eating out over the rest of the 12 hours we were at Hollywood Studios.

After watching the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular we headed over to Backlot Express for two reasons: 1. we had to refill the camelback and BE has a refillable drinking station and 2. I had read on the DFB that they had buffalo chicken nuggets here!! :cool1:

Buffalo chicken is one of my most favorite things, and although I normally eat my buffalo chicken without breading I would take what I could get at Disney World!!! :rotfl2:

Buffalo Chicken Nuggets
2v0h55z.jpg

I think I ate like 5/8 of the chicken nuggets and DBf had most of the fries. I did enjoy the fries covered in buffalo sauce :goodvibes This was probably my favorite park counter service meal besides the chicken & ribs bonanza we had at Cosmic Ray's later in the trip.

Marble Cheesecake
15d91d.jpg

I think I had like a quarter of a bite of this cheesecake. I just didn't want anymore sweets after Sci-Fi. DBf ate it all and gave it an eh.

Much later in the day we stopped at Hollywood Scoops to use up a snack credit. I was looking forward to trying an Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich and decided that right then was a great time!

Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich
k1x552.jpg

We probably should have gotten one of these at Main Street Bakery in Magic Kingdom, because this was just okay. The cookies were kind of hard, but we still devoured the whole thing!

Finally, our last stop of the night was kind of a tradition for me. My family and I have gone to Toy Story Pizza Planet every single visit to Disney World. Mostly because Toy Story is our favorite Disney movie as a family to watch together.

I knew this going in, but besides our POP breakfast this was also the most disappointing counter service meal.

Pepperoni Pizza
ofp6x.jpg

Sorry that it had been ripped apart already! I guess one of us was hungry and forgot about pictures :lmao: this was dismal. Even DBf who will eat anything didn't want to finish it.

Caesar Salad

Thank god for this little beauty. I think DBf and I actually fought over this ;)

They had run out of the cappuccino cupcake :sad2: so we had to get...

Chocolate-Chip Cookie
20rscig.jpg

This was pretty good and didn't go uneaten. But we definitely would have preferred the cappuccino cupcake!!

Today we were off to Islands of Adventure to check out the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!!

We started our morning off with a create-your-own treat from Goofy's Candy Company.

Create-Your-Own Treat
Rice Krispie Treat Covered in Milk Chocolate and M&Ms and Drizzled with White Chocolate
e99ch2.jpg

(Note this picture was actually of one of the three treats I brought back for my family... but still the same thing :) )

Extremely sweet, as I'm sure you can imagine! But a great use of a snack credit!

We went straight to the WWoHP and couldn't leave without trying out the butterbeers!

Regular Butterbeer
f3s4m.jpg

Frozen Butterbeer
28lszrn.jpg

I preferred the frozen butterbeer and DBf preferred the regular one, so another perfect decision! These were really good, sweet without being sickeningly so. We enjoy the marshmallow (?) foam on top the most (especially DBf).

Chocolate Frog

We ended up picking up one chocolate frog and three boxes of Bertie Bott's. I'll have pictures of those later in the review once I open them up :)

We were feeling a bit hungry around noon and had been looking at all the counter services prices. They all seems to be around the $10-15 price range and we had checked out the menu for Mythos and saw that they had similarly priced food. So we decided to get out of the heat, into the air conditioning and go to Mythos!

Bread Basket
118qa36.jpg

Buttered Bread
5clv7c.jpg

This bread was REALLY good, i wanted to say it had rosemary in it? Some type of herb like that. I could have just had this entire basket for lunch and been happy :lmao:

(Please note: I'm kind of obsessed with cheeseburgers, I don't know why but I just love them. So there are like a bajillion cheeseburgers in this review sorry ;) )

Bacon Cheeseburger
2mwwjd4.jpg

Caesar Salad
332b6ex.jpg

DBf and I split both of these. They were a standard cheeseburger and salad. I'm not sure why this is considered the best theme park restaurant in the world? You'd think that nod would go to a Disney restaurant? Very good lunch though, and well worth the price! I think we got all this food for under $20 including tip? Not sure DBf paid for it. Regardless it was close to what we would have paid for a counter service meal that wouldn't have been as good.

And we return to T-Rex to spend our $50 Landry rewards!!

We were pretty beat from Islands of Adventure. We had saved the water rides for last (thank god) and arrived back at POP soaked and a little grouchy. We barely made our 8PM reservation, but were thankful that we did!

We decided to spend our $50 on mostly appetizers as we had been eating mainly entrees and desserts on this vacation. In general we tend to order appetizers when we go out because we prefer the variety and portion sizes.

I ordered my beloved Shark Water and DBf got a water.

Shark Water
ae4a5c.jpg

I can't even explain to you how much I loved this drink. Sprite is my favorite drink (besides water which is what I drink 99% of the time) and I'm obsessed with anything coconut. This would make a great mixer for a drink ;)

For appetizers we went with...

Pterosaur Wings & Melalosaurus Mozzarella
Traditional style Buffalo Wings served with carrots, celery sticks, and Blue Cheese dressing
Seared Mozzarella with creamy marinara and mozzarella fingers
ejzbqv.jpg

Sorry for the gross picture :rotfl2:We digged in before I got pictures and this is DBf's plate. As you can see the Melalosaurus comes with your standard mozzarella fingers as well as some fried mozzarella. I really enjoyed the fried version. The wings were yummy too!

For entrees we split...

Dexter's Dual Dip
Our phenomenal combination of shrimp and artichoke dip and spinach and pepper jack queso served with tortilla chips
315yh49.jpg

1f9the.jpg

This was yummmmyyy. I love cheese dips/queso and this was a huge portion. They gave a perfect amount of chips/cheese ratio. At least for us :thumbsup2

I'm sure you're not surprised!

Bronto Burger
A 100% beef burger piled high with a fried onion ring, pickles, lettuce, tomato and your choice of cheese (we chose cheddar)
14o3uk7.jpg

The burger was good and I really enjoyed the waffle fries here.

I would say our first visit was better than than second but we ordered really phenomenal and huge meals on our first visit.

However, if you just want to soak in the atmosphere you won't go wrong with standard appetizer fare.

By the way our bill came to like $49.29 or something like that... so we did great spending the $50!

Great REviews! I want to get those buffalo chicken nuggets! That is a great addition to HS!

I'm so bummed that I haven't gotten that Red Velvet Cheesecake yet! I wanted it when I was there last month and we never had a chance to get it. :worried:

I also liked the Frozen Butterbeer better than the regular. As a matter of fact, my daughter and I split THREE of them the day we were there. But that only equals 1 1/2 right? So it isn't as bad as it sounds! :rotfl2: We also ate at Mythos that day and we had dinner. I have to say that I had pasta and my dd had steak and they were both fabulous. Not sure they deserved the best theme park restaurant rating either but we loved what we had. :thumbsup2

I agree the prices at Mythos aren't bad, we ate there a couple of years ago and it was nice.

Whispering Canyon! Glad to hear you enjoyed the skillet there. I've been considering trying it for a while now, but the menu changes have thrown a curve in my plans. Before, I was pretty sure I wanted to do lunch (for the lighter dishes), but the new lunch menu is less appealing to me, while the new dinner menu is slightly more appealing (since the skillet now includes fish and dessert).

And thanks for the pics from Universal. Mythos doesn't really look amazing to me (although it sounds like a good value :thumbsup2), while the snacks from Wizarding World sound amazing! I'd love to try the frozen butterbeer now.

Enjoying all your reviews :thumbsup2
Thank you! :)

Great REviews! I want to get those buffalo chicken nuggets! That is a great addition to HS!
Definitely! I feel like Disney doesn't really "do" buffalo chicken too much, so I was happy to get my fix!

If you mean the cupcake, then you NEED to do it. My only recommendation would be to get a cup of coffee to drink before hand or just plan to sit a few minutes before digging in because it is a little overly cold upon purchase. It's much better if you let it sit. You could always spend the time taking pretty pictures of it :lmao:

We actually split three butterbeers too! Before we left Islands of Adventure DBf said we should get a frozen one to go, who am I to say no?! ;)

We would definitely return to Mythos. I'm one of those people that generally prefers table service over counter service, and if the prices are the same - I'm definitely opting for the air condition!

The Whispering Canyon skillet was really, really, really good. We refilled the skillet and entirely finished the refill that's how good the food was. I wish we had the option for fish because I would have jumped on that! DBf may have cringed though as he HATES fish :lmao:

Mythos was really just eh. Definitely not as good as any of the table service we had at Disney. But a very good value. I wish we had the stomach space to try some of their bakery items at Honeydukes, but we knew we had a ton of credits to burn and getting more sweets was just not a good idea, especially since we were already beginning to dread dessert at Disney!

I'm hoping the next time I head to Orlando I can spend a night or two at the Hard Rock Hotel so that I can check out the CityWalk eats and save tummy space for Honeydukes!

It seems I forgot to include our trek to Goofy's Candy Co. after T-Rex. We knew we had a ton of snack credits to blow through so we decided to head over to Goofy's to look at their bakery cases.

I took these pictures....
