I have some question about the way the DVC cash discount works.

Can you only get the cash discount at resorts that you own? So if I only own points at OKW, can I only get the cash discount at OKW.

Can you get cash discounts using the 11/7 rule? If I only points only at OKW, can I get the cash discount at OKW at 11 months, but get the cash discount at other resorts at 7 months?

Does the cash discount reflect back to the points you own at that resort. So if I own 50 points at VWL, can my cash discount only be for small amounts, equivalent to the points I own.

Can you get a cash discount without using your points as part of the reservation? In other words, can I make a cash discount reservation at OKW for a week without using any points as part of that reservation? Can I make a reservation at BWV (where I don't own any points) for a week using the cash discount?

How does it all work? Inquiring minds want to know.

My understanding is that the cash discount is totally dependent on availability - getting one has nothing to do with the 11/7 month windows, the number of points you have or where you own.

If there is availability, the only requirement is that the DVC member be staying in the room.

AFAIK, no one here knows how DVC determines availability for the cash discount or the release timing. We believe DVC uses some formula based on historical patterns. Fridays and Saturdays seem to be more available than other nights. Sometimes you can get cash reservations at 11 months, sometimes closer to the arrival date and sometimes not at all. MS doesn't advertise when discounts are available - you have to call and hope you get lucky.

HTH.

It's always 25%, it doesn't vary like CRO discounts. I was able to get the member discount at OKW for a 1 bedroom for a Friday or Saturday night in May the past 3 years with no problem at around 3 or 4 months.

How does the AP Best rates discount work with a DVC discount? I expect they don't work together but is one better to use than the other?

Is the DVC discount still 25% at non-dvc resorts on Disney property?

Thanks

Those are two separate discounts. You must choose one or the other. You'd have to check / compare to see which is better. If you book the DVC discount (through MS), you will not have to change rooms. If you book the AP discount (via CRO), you may have to change rooms and at a minimum, you will have to check out and back in again.

The DVC 25% member cash discount is only available for DVC resorts. It's never been available for non-DVC resorts.

MS cannot book non-DVC resorts for you unless you are using points for your stay.

Can you book a dedicated 2 BR at BCV with the cash discount? For example, book Sunday through Thursday with points, and then Friday and Saturday by cash without moving? (I thought I read somewhere that you couldn't book a dedicated 2BR by cash; not sure if you know the answer to this question.)

Points only for the dedicated 2 bedrooms at BCV... at least when I called and asked about them a year ago...

My understanding is the same as Laurabearz. Points only also means that CRO/WDWTC doesn't get this inventory to rent for cash, either.

Same thing for the guaranteed Boardwalk view rooms at the BWV. Points, only. None available for cash via MS or CRO.

Those are the only two like this that I know of, but there may be others.
