(warning: you are about to read the "70 mph TR" of the queen of run-on sentences! ... in my defense I'm still sick with allergies! and really pumped about the cruise .... ah, the cruise ...)
This was my dd (turned 16 11/3!) and my 2nd Disney Cruise and the best by far! I have to say I was very worried after reading so many negative comments and reviews - but nothing could ruin this cruise! Not even when my allergies started acting up when we connected in Houston and never quit the whole cruise! Tip #1 - bring Puffs! two boxes (put in zip locks) - i only brought one box and needed more! Kleenex is just not the same.
Let me get the "just ok" stuff out of the way - the live band - they tried so hard but when they started to do better the keyboard guy would forget what song he was suppose to be playing and mess them up ... and some english words were hard for them to pronounce - But to their credit - they gave 100%.
the magician (we saw him in All Aboard) - it was his first time onboard; he was very nervous and it showed in his performance. did not make any of his other shows.
buffet lunch at parrot cay (not the embarkment lunch, it was probably the same a topsiders which was wonderful; i think this was sunday's buffet ) we left hungry and went to goofy's for pannini's and fruit - the food may have actually been good, but because it was so bla looking (chicken alaking looked enemic - and curry stuff just looked ugh!) we did not even try it.
the pirate night buffet (on deck 9) was SOOOOO dark you really did not know what you were putting on your plate! but it was good!
We had rough seas right off the bat and they continued for several days off and on ... but it did not bother us at all.
Now for the GREAT STUFF!
Thank you Wesley for taking such good care of us! We had a great time trying to guess the animal! Our servers were wonderful too; Maria, Claudia and Fitz our head server!!! Not one complaint!! They even brought choc. souffle (sp?) from Palo for my dd birthday! and two extra for our table to share. Food and service was A+.
I wanted a table for 2 - but settled for the table for 8 to make dd happy. It was a blessing! We were seated with the best people ever! A couple celebrating their 1st anniversary (married on CC last year!!), a sweet dating couple from NJ (hi, Keith and Breah!!) and a mother/daughter cruising team just like us (Hey, Debbie and Kimberly! ... we miss bingo! what is snow white's favorite song?!) These people made our dinner time (and bingo!) wonderful! On pirate night we all went up to the Pirate Party and had a blast and then we stayed up as late as we could to watch the movie on deck 9 afterwards and eat the buffet! (Thanks Drew and Lorie!) Lorie outlasted all of us! Oh, and they almost killed me! We climbed (more like ran!) the stairs from deck 4 all the way to deck 10 to make the beginning of the show! Needless to say I was last and ripped the bottom of my pirate skirt! But it was fun and burned off some of that great desert!!
The fireworks!! Some have said they were "ok" "too short", etc .... I disagree. We are on a ship with Cozamel on one side, beautiful black sky and sea on the other and disney puts on a beautiful display for almost 4 minutes! The end had 4 color blasts in each rocket! Bravo! Not many dressed up as pirates ... but those that did (us!) had a blast! and I heard many comments where people wish they had known about dressing up in advance so they could participate (listening disney? .... send the recommendations with the cruise docs ... don't forget pajama bingo!!!)
One of the best parts for us was when the ship was almost empty on shore days - my dd and I are very shy about bathing suits and this gave us the best opportunity to explore the pools AND they just cleaned and refilled them! It is also the best time to play games .... Mr. Toad's Wild Race was a blast ... yes, I threw the race (Mrs. Bertha Toad is a lady!) but Fred Toad (dd) felt bad because he hopped forward instead of back and accidently beat the little girl he was racing ... so we bowed out early to give her a chance to race in the finalle .... go princess toad!!!
The golf game was one of our favorites .... makes grown men cry! DD got a score of 15!!! The wheel of trivia is the closest I have been to playing on the real thing! You must try it. But bingo (twice daily!) was the best. We spent almost $300 to play the whole cruise (had not budget for this or the many yummy drinks we had each time we played!) we bought the $35 card each time - they also have a $25 card - won nothing - but loved it! They also give alway lots of stuff in them AM game (you get 1 raffle ticket for each card bought) and save your receipts - you will get an extra red card (last game played each session (5 games each session) - you can use the receipts for Sunday - Weds games only) cue song .... "B11, BB11!!!" It was great! oh, WEAR pj's on the Pj bingo day and get a free red card! Walmart has great disney ones!
The ++++'s far outway the just ok's. The comedian was supurb! wish we had caught his act again .... my dd is still singing the "pink pajama's with penguins on the bottom" song!
THE SHOWS!!! they are not broadway but I LOVED THEM! The effects they use are truly MAGICAL! and I am not a "theater show" fan ... you won't want to miss them! I would suggest sitting on the left or right .... center is just too crazy and you will get kicked and your chair back shoved the whole show. (the kids are very excited! and some parents!) If you miss the shows just watch them on tv the next day!
I would suggest attending the "shopping info" - not because it really helps you with your shopping - but because they give away lots of stuff! including diamonds!!! oh, they gave away a diamond neckless in bingo too! as well as spa packages and CC packages!
I really did intent to write a witty TR with lots of pics (took over 600!! - NO, not all of them are food!) but we are exhausted! Still having allergy issues and still feeling the ship moving and its tuesday! kind of makes me homesick for the Magic ... but, rebooked on board! Husband was a sweetie again and said yes! ..... I hope your next cruise is just a magical as ours! Blessings and Joy to everyone!
oh, P.S. Disney now disembarks on deck 3 (no more basement disembarks)! They are listening ...
