OK, so here's a question I have for all of you. A couple years ago I was talking to a friend in NJ about New Year's and was shocked to find out that he had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned we were having pork & sauerkraut for new year's good luck dinner. I thought that tradition was everywhere, but now I've seen that there are regional traditions.

So the question is ... what do you eat on New Year's for good luck in the coming year?

And yes, we're making pork & sauerkraut. At some point today my mother will call and make sure!

Well, I have 5, count them 5, 11-year-olds terrorizing the basement right now! I went and got 3 pizzas, breadsticks and sauce...and you know what they did to that! I'm glad they are having a great time. There's nothing down there that can't be fixed or replaced. Gotta love them!

:scared1:  :scared1:

Hope your basement is still there!!!:rotfl:

Good morning and good new year to all:

Bob: I have to say I did get a huge laugh from your adoption statement....however, I cant believe you intentionally take your life into your own hands with Shell!!!!!:rotfl:

Shell & Wendy: May your teams tie...and may there be no time for overtime!!!:rotfl: OK I know that will never happen but hey, I just want to see the two girlfriends get along and quit fighting....:goodvibes

Lynn: Hope Andrew gets better soon.

Okie: :grouphug: for your Mom. Hope things go better for her.

Shell: We dont do any traditional good luck foods for new years. This is the first I am hearing about this. Maybe thats why we got a divorce!!!:confused3 :lmao:

Linda: Glad to see ya posting....

Kathy: It does sound better saying I'm cruising this year!!!!

IF I missed anyone....hello...

Take care all
Later

Happy New Year BananaHeads!

Hope everyone had a great night last night. We went out to dinner then home to watch the ball drop. Girls didn't make it (Lizzie made it til 11:30 or so). Now the countdown is on to our WDW trip. And to our cruise.. later THIS year! ;)

Hi Everyone!

Happy New Year! Yes, we have the tradition too. Wonder if it is regional for our area?? It is Kolbasi and Sourkraut for us here too. Growing up we made ham - had to have some type of port for good luck in the new year.

No tradtions here. All we eat on New Years is a bunch of food that is really bad for you:rotfl:

We woke up to a foot of snow:eek: John got stuck on our road and he had to call his friend from work to come and get him so he could get to work. :scared1: Poor guy he had a stressful morning. The girls are loving it. They have been out sledding. I am hoping to get out tomorrow and take some pictures.

I went into urgent care yesterday. I have bronchitis and a sinus infection:sick: I am on antibiotics, so hopefully I will be back to my self soon. Madison is just about over her bug.

Last night was pretty uneventful around here. Madison fell a sleep by 11:15. John fell a sleep. He woke up in time to watch the ball drop. Hopefully next New Years we will all be healthy and it will be more fun.

Okie-Glad to hear your mom has bounced back again:woohoo: I hope 2008 will be better for her.

Wendy-Hope you enjoy your time off work this week:banana:

Dawn-Hope you survived your New Years with all those boys! What a wonderful grandma you are!!:worship:

Hi to Linda -Glad to hear from you again.

Jeff and Mina-Madison did not make it until midnight either.

Hi Shell and Bill:goodvibes

Lynn-Hope Dh get better soon. Stay warm!!

Hi Denise.

Hi Kathy- I watched part of the Rose Parade. Those floats are amazing!

Hope I did not miss any one. If I did Hi and Happy New Years!!!

Shell,

No food traditions around here. I have never heard of that tradition before?

we just eat up what ever is left over from Christmas usually but tonight I have steaks in the slow cooker to make them nice and tender. I will figure out what to fix with them later,

Kathy

For us, it has always been the following for New Year's Day (with the associated "reason"):
Collard Greens - Symbolize dollar bills coming to you in the new year
Black-Eyed Peas - Symbolize the change in your pockets in the new year
Fatback - Supposed to bring good luck overall...BTW, I didn't have the nerve to eat for good luck until I was in my late twenties!:lmao:

I went into urgent care yesterday. I have bronchitis and a sinus infection:sick: I am on antibiotics, so hopefully I will be back to my self soon. Madison is just about over her bug.

Lorna, hope you and Madison feel better soon. I have had that combination before, and you have my deepest sympathy!

Just dropping by to say good night a bit early tonight.
Our cold weather is finally getting here. YEAH!!

I am off to curl up with a movie and relax for awhile,

catch ya in the morning,

Kathy

Evening nana's!

Lorna, I wondered how you faired with the s**w. We got about 7 inches but we are still getting the lake effect stuff...probably a couple more inches through tonight.

Okie, I am sooo glad your mom is improving! You haven't said anything about yourself lately. Is your vision back?

Lynn, Winter is tough for the little ones. Hoping Andrew is on the way to better health. Elizabeth probably has another ear infection too. She has her regular visit scheduled for tomorrow.

Shell, I've never heard of a good luck dinner. Doesn't sound like a bad idea! Bob, NO WAY could I eat that...I would just have to take my chances with luck.

Jeff, Mina and girls, Wish we were going to WDW too! Since the girls found out they are going I bet they are extremely excited.

Kathy, Darn...I forgot about the parades today. Everyone went out to shovel about the time they were coming on.

One more day and Nathan will be returning home. The boys have been great but I can say I am looking forward to returning to everyday life with only 2 boys!

Tomorrow is my doctor's appt for total knee replacement. I'm still hoping for a patch job for a few more years. I don't have time for a major surgery!

Check in with everyone tomorrow. Hope everyone had a great day and Happy 2008!

Dawn

Evening all Nanaheads:

Well this has been just a wonderful day!!!! A lot of white S--w yuk!!:crazy2: :scared:

Anyway....It was a pretty quite day around here otherwise. Just did some cleaning around here. Some shoveling...some cooking....but otherwise quite. Now I have to get ready for work:eek: tomorrow....thankfully we only have a 3 day work week....:yay:

Well I think over the weekend will book our room at the Radisson.....who else is booked already?

Later all
Denise:banana:

PS: Wally did want me to wish you all a Happy New Year. And a great 2008.
