So the first of many many many loaves of zucchini bread are in the oven right now. I have 6 loaves in from about 2/3 of ONE zucchini ... and I have 4 more sitting on the counter! Good thing we bought a freezer ...

Actually good idea, since this year we will be doing more "water" things....I really need to consider that and cut down on a couple of outfits.....

Trust me, it was a hard lesson learned, but very valuable! Will certainly help with packing this time.

Evening all:

Yeah Shell.....that list would be a little to short for me to......I need at least 2 outfits per day.......but this time, I am going to try and cut it down a little, the 06 cruise was my lets see how many outfits I'm really going to use....plus this time we have 2 more stops......Oh well, going to have to take my ocd tendencies and see what happens

Denise, I'm with you! I wear almost everything I take and sometimes we do laundry too. I LIKE fresh clothes at regular intervals. (In March, on pirate night, I would have even worn my parka, if I could have found it - turned up in my carry on, sadly too late to keep me and Dimples from freezing)

Denise, I figured out last year that with the 2 sea days and both stops in St. Maarten and St. Thomas (as well as Castaway), I wore my bathing suit almost all the time. That's what I'm going to plan on for this time as well -- bathing suits and cover ups for the days, then "real" clothes for the nights.

Looking for some information - actually cruise related! You may have read an earlier post where we are skipping formal night in a plan to cut down on what we pack for our 2 week trip to california later this week. I have no need for a jacket with the exception of Palo. However, I am remembering that the "official" rule for dinner is a dress shirt and slacks for me. Jacket is obviously something 'recommended' but not required. Am I remembering that correctly -- AND i seem to remember when we were there for dinner that there were plenty of guys dressed this way and even in just regular polo/golf shirts with khakis (along with those fully suited up) . I'd love to skip packing the jacket as it takes up lotsa room too.

In the fall, we are back to hitting formal night (unless we love skipping it) and I may even bring the tux. But since this trip is so long...we are looking for savings whereever we can.

Does anyone remember the overall dress of the men at Palo for dinner?

Jeff, I don't recall men at dinner in Palos not in a tie and jacket, but the khakis and golf shirts were for brunch. Maybe if you just take dress pants, dress shirt and tie? Then you can skip the jacket.

Hmmm maybe that's what I remember. I always wore a jacket and no tie and there were folks at my dinners dressed like that but I remembered people without jackets. Must be as you remember - tie no jacket. And as much as I loathe ties, they do take up less room in the suitcase!

Jeff, I've officially moved our reservations to Carol this evening. I have one payment left--hope to have paid for by month's end. Now it's up to you to get something out of Carol! Anyone else moving their ressie over?

Denise, I also saw the storm in Northern Illinois. The news said that there was a confirmed tornado. Was thinking about you and Cheri. It's just south of us right now. Hopefully, it skirts by us. Speaking of that, I've got to check Texas out, how's it doing?

It was only our second cruise. 1st cruise was DCL in Nov. 2007 and then this Carnvial cruise this July 4th so some would probably think I'm not comparing apples to apples which I'm not comparing the cruises themselves...oh who am I kidding?? I really tried not too but once you've had a great DCL experience it's hard not to. The food was really good on Carnival but the rest left a lot to be desired. Granted we were on one of Carnival's oldest ships, Sensation, so I had to keep that in mind also but the experience itself was not to our liking. It was really boring. Unless you wanted to gamble or drink alcohol there really wasn't much else to do but lay by the pool that was over crowded. The staff with the exception of the dinner staff was mediocore at best. The ship is really run down in my opinion. My sister's and my niece's bathroom flooded due to the shower drain not draining, not once but twice. Every night when it was time to get ready for dinner, the power supply would go out for about 15 minutes ! So by the time you could blowdry your hair it was mostly already dry . Not the best impression to leave on a first time Carnival cruiser. We may try Carnival again but definitely on a new ship. Sorry to be so long, but I wanted to make sure I explained myself. I don't want someone thinking I'm some DCL snob.

Is being a DCL snob bad?

I have thought about doing another line just to see some of the features of the ships that are coming out these days. I would really love to do a cruise on RCL's Oasis of the Seas that is launching this year. But, we don't drink and gamble, so those features hold absolutely no attraction to us, and are also what drove us to DCL in the first place.

Dawn: Nothing wrong with being a DCL snob. I travel so much for work that when I travel for vacation, I have certain expectations. I don't need a Ritz-like experience, but I just need clean, comfortable and good service.
