The wind in blowing and it's been raining heavily for over 24 hours now. We had a tornado about 10 miles from here that flipped a car over and damaged a building. I think the news said there were 400 homes without power in our small county.
Still waiting to find out if there will be school tomorrow.

How's everyone else in FL doing?
Keep us posted, Sandy. I'll be thinking of you. I hope it passes soon!:grouphug:

Thanks. Except for the occasional tornado warning, this is nothing, compared to hurricanes Frances, Jeanne, and Wilma that we went through a few years ago.

Did you hear from your friends?

Sandy, Ken and Shay -
Stay safe!!
I keep going to the weather channel to check on Fay. Some models have her remanants coming our way over the weekend. We could use the rain actually.
All of you be careful and keep us informed on your progress.

We finally heard from them! They didn't get in until really late last night due to a layover, but they did make it home.:)

Looks like we're onboard to go for sure! :goodvibes

Good news for both of you!

Yeah!:cool1: :thumbsup2  :woohoo: By the way, I love your signature--no cooking, no cleaning, and something about no crazy relatives.:lmao:

The crazy relatives is exactly why I wanted to do this cruise. If only I could set one up for all holidays. :rolleyes1

Thanks Judy,

It has been awefully quite around here today. Just a few rain bands, but nothing serious. Its funny, when you watch the local channels, they are praising that we averted a disaster.:worship: When you switch to the national CNN, you would think the world is coming to an end down here.:scared1:

The news sensationalizes this stuff so much, it makes me sick. As long as it does not affect our cruise, I think I will forgive them.

Thank you!:goodvibes Does that just mean I'm spending way too much time on the DIS?:rotfl:

You have me beat by well over 1000 and my DW thinks I need to see a shrink for being on this too much . . . . . Some people just dont get it!

I came here for my cruise in May 07. And now look at my post count. It is addicting. :rolleyes1

Ken - The national news has me believing you guys are getting pounded! The video of the kite surfer flying into the street doesn't help matters either! My dad lived in Sarasota for several years when he was high school age. He never spoke about storms or hurricanes. This was in the late 30's and early 40's before he joined the Army during WWII. Warning systems were nothing like they are now - I would think he would have had stories to tell if he had lived through anything horrible.

My DH says constantly "Are you on the computer again? What can you possibly have to say to people you have never met?" Ha. He'll never know!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I look forward to checking this thread several times a day! :disrocks: He thinks I've lost my mind too!

Judy

We are a bit north of the storm, but the leaves are not even moving. My guess is they are tired of McCain and Obama and need something new.

Didn't those 2 cancel appearances in Fla because of Fay?

Will you get the tornado warnings as she gets closer?
If you couldn't tell, I find this all very fascinating!

I doubt if we get tornado warnings unless it does a double back and turns back into a hurricane in the gulf and heads back out way. That could be bad. As long as it does not ruin the weekend, I'll get over it.

We're getting pounded right now and have been for several hours. The wind and rain are awful. 4100 homes are without power in my county. I'm grateful we still have ours. They sent out a recorded phone message at 7:30pm saying schools were going to be open tomorrow. I was like WTH, are you kidding me?! Then at 10:30pm we get another recorded message saying they have reversed their decision and school will now be closed tomorrow. Thank goodness. This is nuts. Fay, Fay, GO AWAY!!!

I never understand how school districts make their decisions about closing or late starts. We could have 10 inches of snow and an ice storm and they call a 2 hour delay. We could have a prediction of a chance of snow and they will cancel. Or my husband's district will have the day off but our DS will have to go to school. And the schools are approx. 1 mile away from each other! :confused3

I hope everyone is safe and Fay goes away soon. I'll be watching the path she decides to take and thinking about all of you Floridians! The sun will be back soon!!! :sunny:

I woke up this morning to a gray sky and wind , but thankfully no rain. We're supposed to get some more later though.:headache: The news is telling people not to go out because several roads are completely flooded. DH is on his way home from work now, I wonder how he's making out because one of the roads he has to drive is now closed. We got a total of 12 inches of rain.

Sandy,

Where in SE florida do you live? We are just north of Tampa, and other than a few quick showers and a little more breeze than normal, its been very quite over here. Knock on wood though. The path when it comes back across the state is just north of us.
