11/22/08 Thanksgiving 2008 cruise thread. Double Dipping Travelling Turkeys!

We are going to drive into Washington,DC early Thursday morning. We live 2 hours from there. We figure we'll get there around noon, and go to a couple monuments ar museums. Then we'll eat dinner at Union Station where we board the train. It leaves at 7:30. I'm hoping that by the time we get settled in our seats, that at least McKenna will be tired enough to fall asleep, and then the rest of us soon after. We will arrive in Orlando Friday around 1:00pm. If we had flown, we would have arrived later than that. The Amtrak station is 12 miles from the airport according to mapquest. We're going to get Mear's Transportation to take us from the Amtrak to the Hyatt at the airport. We already have reservations there for $200. We want to go swimming on the rooftop and watch the planes fly over. AND then the next morning wake up, walk downstairs and hopefully be one of the first ones on the bus

I go to DIS countdown calendar for the day countdown. They give you the hours too!
You got a great bargain at the Hyatt. We were going to stay there but DS talked us into the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We can only afford one night! We've only stayed in the WDW moderate and value resorts so this will be a treat. I hope we have enough time to actually enjoy it. DH and DS have plans to go shopping at Downtown Disney as soon as we get there (plane lands at 10am) and we also have tickets for Mickeys Christmas Party. It's going to be a busy day.

You will love AKL. It has a great pool and slide. At night you can look at the animals through night vision goggles. They also have a fire pit outside with rocking chairs around it. I've heard they tell stories out there at night. And you have to try a Zebra Dome, they are so good. We found some at Mara (I think that's the name of the foodcourt). Take bug spray, if you plan to walk around outside the resort at night.

I'd heard about the bugs there at night. I think DS is planning on sleeping on the balcony to see all of the animals and our friends that stayed there warned us. I'm getting so excited. I may blow off DD and stay at the resort to swim and enjoy the lodge itself. I've also heard the African art there is incredible. With my degrees in art history I'm sure I'll enjoy it!

Great day for me today. Kids first day of school, my day off and my bday. I had 8 hours by myself. I also bought Disney on Ice tickets for Oct. I was torn between Jonas Bros and Disney on Ice, both here the same week. Finally decided against Jonas Bros because it is on a school night.

Hey we were looking at the same Jonas Brothers concert, but since we live 3 1/2 to 4 hours south of Atlanta it was a definite no go on a school night. All my girls ages 15, 7 and 5 absolutely love the JoBros, now that's what I call mass appeal. My kids don't go back to school until the 13th, but I have to go back to work at the school on the 6th...so I guess that means I'll have my quiet time at work! Hope you have a great birthday weekend.

Wii Friends

Brendan is still waiting anxiously for his Wii Friends to contact him. He wanted me to remind them that he only has 3 weeks of summer vacation left to play.

I'm confused. Your kids have started school already? Not summer school, right - but the regular school year? Our DS doesn't start until Sept 8 (due to construction on the bldg) and DH goes back 8/21 for inservice. DH is complaining because that's early for him. His kids don't begin until the 25th. Today was his last day of teaching summer reading camp.

I'm so sorry! I don't know how to hook the wii up to the internet, and I thought I'd have time to try to figure it out when I finished my grad classes, but I've been swamped! I will hopefully get it figured out soon!

Yes believe it or not this is real school. It stinks because it is so flipping hot still. We have lots of breaks during the year and get out in early May.

Our county in North Carolina is just busting at the seams trying to fit all the kids in school. There are 4 "tracks" that kids are on. This way the school can get 1/3 more students into the school

I think I would really like year round school. We wouldn't have to take vacations during the most expensive times. It's so hot here in the summer, the kids might as well be in school anyway.
