11/22/08 Thanksgiving 2008 cruise thread. Double Dipping Travelling Turkeys!

I'm late to the thread--just came here looking for information about the new itinerary and happened upon it. There will be around 50 in our group. My dad is taking our whole family which consists of my parents, 12 adult children, 11 spouses, and over 30 grandkids (or rather, he is paying for most of the cruise, individual families are paying for their own airfare, tips, and excursions). This came as quite a surprise to everyone as my dad is not especially wealthy, just a hard working farmer. We are all VERY excited--my parents have done a couple cruises before (but not Disney) but this is the first cruise for most of the rest of us.

Ok so most probably didn't miss me, but that is ok. I have lost my Internet privileges at work for about a month. The main office says we have a slow service and they say it's because of us so they are testing to see if it's any better, I can't see any yet. On top of that we moved. We went from a 3 bedroom to a 5 and we love it!! The space is so nice in deed.
My oldest DD is in her third trimester and she and her fiancé moved in so they can have help with child care when they work the swing shift. YAY! I can't wait to spoil my grandson. I am also preparing for her baby shower on Aug 16. So much on my plate, but had to come and get my DCL on.
I did get the info on the FE and such. I will check with my cruise mates to see what she wants to do.
Glad to hear everyone is on the mend now.

I haven't gotten to your names yet. I have almost 600 name requests, so I decided to do them in order, by cruise date. I've just started working on September cruisers.

Ken--The fish extender thing is a lot of fun. The kids loved checking the bag to see what was in it. It wasn't a whole lot of work, we made up the goody bags and labeled them with stateroom numbers before we left home. All we had to do was deliver them and after eating, I needed any excuse to walk that I could find. I don't think anyone is expecting something from each family everyday, that would be way too much work while on vacation.

I had a hard time the other day making mine, I made mine for the same site that you are working from, I don't think you can use the HTML format. I made mine from the heading that said BBCODE and it worked. GOOD LUCK!!!

On our very first WDW trip in 99 my husband bought me a gold MM charm that was the original EPCOT symbol. I lost it today. I found the chain in the hallway at work but can't find the charm anywhere. I guess I'll have to look for new one this trip.

Do we have a guess-estimate of how many families will be participating in the grab bag or FE yet?

That's ok, I'm confused too I made a calendar for Mackenzie to start crossing off the days and I have us at 115 days as of today. Of course that is because we are leaving on Thursday on the Amtrak, so we start our vacation 2 days before the cruise

On the other hand, it'll be a LLLLOOOOONNNNGGGG (long) 17 hour trip home

On the other hand, it'll be a LLLLOOOOONNNNGGGG (long) 17 hour trip home

Do you get the train in DC?
Did you add days to your calendar? It should really be 111 days as of today if you're leaving on Thursday, right?
I just looked on the DIS countdown clock and it's exactly 113 days or 2,730 hours as of right now until Saturday,11/22. Won't Mackenzie be surprised when she leaves 2 days before her calendar says!

How does it work, do you end up giving one gift for every day of the cruise, or is it just one single gift per participant on some random night?

Last cruise we did a gift for each bag each day but our group was less than 10 people. It is just a matter of preference. This time I have two things I wanted to do, a lot depends on the size of the group we end up with. If we only have 10, I might do more, if we end up with 50, I'll stick to the two. There is no set number of gifts you have to give. If we have 50 families, you could bring 50 magnets, and deliver them all on the same day or throughout the cruise, your choice.

I've heard from a lot of people, but most are still up in the air on the FE gifts. Hopefully by next week, we'll have an idea, we might just need to set a deadline in order to get a firm list of who wants to participate.

I'm glad it worked for you, even if you are early. Sorry to hear that you lost your charm, hopefully you'll be able to find another one on the cruise.

DH just went out to our local dollar store and bought some items and is in the process of making our FE. He also picked up some items for FE gifts. I think the FE will be fun. I know our DD will enjoy it!
