11/22/08 Thanksgiving 2008 cruise thread. Double Dipping Travelling Turkeys!

Just got done discussing FEs with DH. He wants ours to look like the fish! He said (and I quote) "Aw, why can't you make ours look like the killer piranha."
Sometimes I worry about him!!

Phelps just won #7. I'm tellin' ya -the guy is half dolphin!!

Ken - I plan on finishing my mermaid FE tomorrow. I think it will turn out ok. If you want, I will make one for you guys as well. It doesn't have pockets or embroidery. Just visualize Ariel from the waist down!!! I used green and blue shiny material, green and blue sequins, ribbon etc. and am going to the craft store tomorrow to figure out what I can make for the ends of the dowel rods. (I'm toying with the idea of making foam Flounders or Sebastians) I will have Ian post a photo when I'm done. I have enough supplies left over to make another one so it's not like I'd be shopping all over again!

How have you been able to keep it a secret for so long? I would have spilled the beans by now!

That is VERY nice of you to offer. Thank you so much. I think I would be imposing a bit more than I should though. I'll still buy you a Manhatan for offering though! My DDs birthday is November 5th. We plan on surprising her then with the Cruise. She is 6 right now and its been pretty easy to play up that Mommy and Daddy like talking about it, just because we liked our last cruise so much, but we really cant afford to go right now. Kinda like the whole Santa Clause thing. She likes making things, so after we spring the news that we are going, we'll problably let her come up with the ideas and help her put the FE together. (shopping bag with stickers ring a bell?)

I watched Phelps last night too. .01 second lead . . . AMAZING I could not help to think that before they got that electroninc touch pad for the finish, the other guy would have been wrongly given the gold. It sure looked like he took it before they did the slow mo . .

97 days and I'm still waiting for my upgrade. I don't know what's taking them so long........

Lora - Did you get your FE gifts together? I thought of something last night and I'm going to explore the cost of supplies today. I'm thinking it will only cost pennies per gift. Another cup of tea and I'm off to Michael's and the mall.

We would like to tell them both at the same time, but it is sort of our DDs birthday surprise. We thought about telling DD without the other couple and DS around, then get together with them later and tell him . . . Any ideas?

In the past we have sent our daughter on a scavanger hunt. She was 3 at the time but I think if I did it now with her being 13 she would enjoy it the same. One time we had "CInderella" send her an invitation to the castle for breakfast. THe look on her face was priceless.

I'm sure anything you dowill be amazing. Just make sure you record it!

Back from buying FE supplies. It was a successful trip.
When our kids were young DH started a tradition that they still look forward to (DD is 22 and DS is 15!). At Easter he makes clues and puts them in eggs. They have to solve the clue to find the next egg which eventually leads to their basket. I think they look forward to it because each egg has money in it! The older they get the harder the clues - many are algebraic equations! You could hide the "ship" and have her find it. It's a lot of work though. Just cut your losses and send her the invitation! It's less stressful! At her age I think the invite is appropriate and you will get a HUGE reaction.

Get Judy to send you a FE and let that be her present/clue. See how long it takes for her to get the picture. Then, you get FE without the plastic bag and stickers. Not that those aren't cute too.

Where's Lecanto? We're on the east coast. We're keeping an eye on Fay too. DS starts school on Monday and is hoping it'll be closed on Tuesday. I told him not to hold his breath.

We are about an hour north of Tampa, right on the west coast. Its got the track going right over us Late Tuesday night, but it looks like it should be a small storm. A little excitement, but nothing to get too worried about.

I've worked the past 2 days 12 hour shifts. I do 3 12's a week and then get 4 days off--although not always together. Bob and I are both off tomorrow, so I may work on it some. Kenzie has a bad cold and Kenna and I have started sneezing. Hopfully we wont get it---BUT.

I got some more supplies and something to make it a little faster. I should be able to make some progress now. Just waitin gon the total so I'll know how many to make. I want to make one for everybody. Still won't say what it is. Everyone will just have to wait and see.

I had that cold week before last. It hit hard and I was down for 2 days but it didn't stick around long. I felt 100% better after 3 days.
Got all of my supplies today and plan on getting some serious crafting done tomorrow. Crafting, laundry and a haircut are on my agenda.
Phelps just got his 8th gold. Amazing.
Our neighbor's house was gutted by a fire this afternoon. It may be a total loss. Thank God they all got out safely(Mom, Dad, 2 children). That is a very scary sight. Salvation Army disaster services arrived very quickly and 4 fire depts responded.

Hi, everyone! I've been out searching like a crazy woman this weekend for FE gift ideas! I did have a couple of successful stops, but those teenagers are the ones that are stumping me! I keep coming home with lots of "stuff" and DH doesn't even know what to say. He's pretty certain we'll need an extra suitcase just for the whole FE thing. I don't care if we do though, because this is FUN! I was at a store yesterday buying multiples of something and someone asked me what I was doing. (They thought I was having some sort of party.) I explained to them what it was for and they thought it was the coolest thing ever! How many more days until we meet?

How many are included in the fish extender group? How are you guys doing it? (every cruise I have been on has done it differently!!)

I am supposed to be boarding the Magic today to bring the Magic home from CA. My son and I took the EB Panama cruise....but we cancelled the WB....

I hope the group getting on board today has a wonderful vacation!! Is there anyone on this thread that did either the EB or WB Panama??
