I realized after posting Part 1 that I didn't explain the title. DW and I celebrated are 10th wedding anniversary during the trip. Originally it was just going to be us be I felt guilty and wanted to take ds along. The first time we walked by Small World, ds(4) promptly said that he didn't like that ride, it was dumb. He then informed us that it would not be part of our plans on this trip.
The Cast and Crew:
me - declansdad (40) 2nd trip
dw - pooksma (??) 2nd trip (3rd really but I don't count pre me)
ds - declan (4) 2nd trip
Day 3 - Disney Studios
DW stirred first around 6:30 am. As soon as that happened we were all up and decided that today would be a Studios day. (Now I like seeing the Castle as soon as possible but we had a breakfast planned for Chef Mickeys the next morning so that would be our first MK day.) We all had a bite in the room and made our way to the bus stop.Virtually no wait for the bus and in no time flat we were at the park.
We split up as I carried a bag through security and dw and ds went to get a stroller. (We decided not to get the extended stroller rental at this time and that proved to be a mistake. About half way through our trip, the price of the strollers increased to $10/day for a single with no deposit. So you no longer get the Disney Dollar back.) Getting through the security line was quick thanks to a Dis tip - always go left.
Our plan was to make our way back to the Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show and grap 3 fastpasses for the 1st show. We got a little side tracked because all the characters were out at the end of Hollywood Blvd and ds spotted 2 of his favourites - Lilo and Stitch. DS got their autographs and Mickeys before we moved along. On the way to the passes we also came acrossed Mike and Sulley from Monsters Inc. This was our first bit of magic
because there was no one else waiting and we could walk right up. As soon as we got there, the line started to form. This was a common occurence during our trip.
After getting the passes we had no plans so we just started walking. First stop was the Backlot Tour. This was closed last year during our visit so we were looking forward to it. We were too late to be volunteers but managed to watch the first part in the front row. We avoided the water in Catastrophe Canyon because we were in the last seat of the tram. We all liked this show and seeing the Villains exhibit on the way out was very cool. The gift shop gave us our first park souvenir. DS had his faced put in the picture of Buzz. It cost about $37 for the picture (comes with a frame).
Our next stop was Muppetvision 3D. DW and I wanted to see this as we grew up with the Muppets but ds is not a big fan and he didn't do well at 3D shows last year. He was a trooper and wanted to try it. We hit it just as there were admitting everyone so we didn't have to wait . Again we all liked this show and thought the effects were pretty good.
Next up was a walk along Mickey Avenue. We passed on the line for Donald Duck (almost regretted this) and joined the queue for Jojo and Goliath. Walked past Millionaire as the was a bit of a wait before the next show and headed for the Magic of Disney Animation.
We really wanted to do this because ds' new heroes are the Incredibles. We made sure he wore his t-shirt with Dash on it just for this. DS impatiently sat through the show but Mushu kept him somewhat entertained. On our way out of the theatre, we experienced our first experience of pushy people. Slow down people, there is only so much room and you will run over little kids just for a 10 second advantage in the next line.
Sorry this ticks me off. We went right to the line for the characters and waited about 5 minutes to meet Mr and Mrs Incredible. Mr immediately noticed ds t-shirt and was very happy. After the autographs, we tried some of the computerized activities before leaving.
We started back towards the Stunt Show area because it was getting close to time for our fastpasses. You have a very small window of time for these passes as they want you there in plenty of time to get all 5000 people in to the seating area. As we were walking over ds started to get a bit cranky so we decided maybe it was time to go. It was a first day being exposed to the heat and humidity so we didn't want to overdo it. We decided to back for a swim and a rest and then to DTD for supper and a look around. (I realized back at the resort that I still had the 3 fastpasses in my pocket. I felt bad because I could have given them away and helped spread some magic.)
We headed for DTD around 4:30 and once again the bus was right there. DS dozed off during the drive so I carried him for the first bit. We stopped at Rainforest Cafe to see if we could get in. They said we could go right in so we did. This is an interesting place if you have never been to one before. The tropical feel with the large aquariums, and animitronic wildlife was pretty cool. The service was very good and the food was filling. DW found it ok and ds loved it.
We did a quick trip around the shops after eating. We had an hour to kill while we were waiting for our GOH badges to be engraved so we went to Legoland, and Once upon a Toy while we were waiting. Legoland has some new displays that I took some pictures of. You will be able to check them out soon (I hope). We made it an early night (10:30) and turned in to get some rest for the next day.
Next up: Chef Mickeys and MK.
