I received one from The State of NJ and have no idea what it is for. It is titled "Certain Government Payments". It is for $221. It says it is not a bill, but to keep for tax purposes.

Any ideas because I am stumped.

1099 forms are for income, so....did you get any money from the state? Any debt forgiven in that amount? Any gambling winnings?

The onyl money we ever received from the State of NJ was the homeowner's reabte back in September. No gambling winnings. Could I call I find out exactly waht it is from?

I believe it is last year's income tax reurn from the state and if you itemized last year then you need to report it on this year's return.
