1045am Flight from BCN to us. WOuld you?

thanks to those of you who posted about he barelona airport with the attack sand strike so far we havent heard anything about our flight in or out of Barcelona and we leave 9-9

flying out on the 16th which is a non strike day--wonder how that works--time will tell

Update: because of cost I couldn't fly from barcelona directly to Detroit. Was really $$.
So instead of staying the night in Barcelona after we debark, since we are going in 3 days prior to explore the city we booked an air france flight from Barcelona to Paris and I got a free room at the Hilton Charles de Gaulle airport on points. We fly 1220 and get there 215. Figure be at hotel like 315/430 and then train and have dinner in Paris!!!
Total bonus treat and then direct flight in the am from cdg to Detroit and $400 per person cheaper flying bcn to dtw!
Score and thanks delta for making no sense!!!
We are gonna surprise the kids and not tell them we are going to Paris. Makes getting off the cruise so much better knowing g we spend the night in Paris.

For those worried about the strike, it has been halted due to the terror attack. There is no information in regards to it resuming.

For those not familiar with International flights back to the US, you do go through a few check-points with the last one being passport control. In BCN, they held people back in a waiting area until near the boarding time for the flight, then you show your passports and go to the area to board the plane. They were definitely pulling people out of the line for extra screening, questions, etc., but I didn't see those people taking too much longer.

IBelieveInTheMagic, so the long lines we here about in BCN are at security? and the passport control lines are quicker? My first time flying internationally so I"m soaking up info, especially on this airport. We are staying an extra day after our cruise but happens to fall on a scheduled (not sure if its still scheduled with all thats happened) the 17th Sept. Our flight is 10:10am so we are just going to see what BA recommends for our flight out of there.

The situation in BCN definitely seems fluid so I'd just hope for the best to be honest. We checked in with AA and dropped off our checked suitcases and the line was very quick to do that. From there we went through the "normal" TSA type security going through the metal detectors and placing your carry on's through the X-ray machine. We did not have to take our shoes off here as we had on tennis shoes however those wearing sandals with metal type buckles did have to take off their shoes. Next we walked to our gate area and waited until the passport control people showed up for our flight. We showed our passports and then went to the area to actually board the plane.

I hope that helps! :)

cheermom we must be on the same cruise although were flying back on the 16th which is/was not a strike day

we are on AA though and I did a contact us form to ask about security leaving Barcelona and I got a very nice person that called me

she said even with whats been going on in Barcelona they havent heard any issues from passengers about missing flights or any other issues

she said passengers would be notified of any changes or alerts Our flight doesnt leave until 345pm and were taking disney transfers so Im sure well get to the airport pretty early

so far we have heard nothing and were leaving 9-7

enjoy your cruise maybe we can meet up

well there's a cruise meet up that was organized on another website that I cant list. Hope we all just have fun!

We are just going to wing it and hope for the best. its so back and forth with the news coverage regarding the airport there. It does sound like though that they have an agreement that even with a 24 hr strike they still have to be 90% operational which is better than zero in my opinion. There might be longer lines but eh, I'm flying home so its not as big a deal as if I was trying to get to my cruise.

Just wanted to report back that I made it to the boarding gate with 1 hour prior to boarding, 2 hours prior to take off. I would've had an extra hour if Delta didn't have poor service- i.e. not allowing me but allowing my wife to online check-in and also not prepared for the post-vacationers who they also didn't allow to online check-in. Checking in with Delta was a nightmare.

Going through Barcelona International security was fairly typical and easy, took about 10-15 minutes.

DCL transferred us from the dock around 7:05. We made it to the airport around 7:25. I would suggest taking a taxi instead of DCL transfers simply due to not riding in a motor coach with 30 others, going below the speed limit and having to wait for them to unload all bags to get off the bus.

Overall we had enough time.

I was on the cruise last week and had a 13:10 flight to PHL. We left the ship around 7:45 and took a taxi and were in the terminal before 8:30. Waited 15 minutes in the VAT refund line which is close to check in. Security took 20-25 minutes. It is then quite a walk from security to the gate, 20-25 minutes. They tend to put the US flights at the end of each terminal as there is a separate line for Passport control at the end of each terminal. They also would not let us check in until 3 hours before the flight, so we sat for over an hour in the waiting area. Did not have much time to shop and eat by the time we got through security. I would advise against a flight this early, but it is doable assuming no issues with debarkation. People were lining up for the gangway around 6:15 and they opened it around 6:30. Getting off the ship takes 5 minutes, as there is no customs to go through (assuming you are on the closed loop EU cruise).

We just flew in from BCN to JFK last night. Landed at 4:30 pm. We originally had a Delta flight at 12:00 noon but when we woke up in Barcelona yesterday am we had a text from Delta that our flight was delayed until 2:20. We were able to push back our car service from our hotel from 8:45 to 11:00 am. We had heard that airlines do not allow checking of bags more than 3 hours before flights so did not want to get to airport too early and just sit around. Our check in at BCN on Delta was a breeze. We were literally the only people at the counter. Walked right up and checked in. Breezed through security and passport control and were at the gate in plenty of time. We were gate E74 and were bused to the plane.

We were on a land vacation and had spent five days in Portugal (Ericera) and five days in Barcelona. We loved the city of Barcelona. It was awesome. We had enough time to do most of the attractions. We hit La Sagrada Familia, La Pederera, Gothic Quarter, Monserrate (a must see), Montjuic, took a boat ride in the harbor, saw a Flamenco show/dinner, rode the hop on hop off bus all day one day, walked down La Rambla, took the Metro many places, etc. Really felt like we saw and experienced the city If the Magic was in port it would have been a bonus LOL.

If you are looking for a hotel in Barcelona before or after a cruise look into the U232 Hotel. We found it a great location near the Metro and very nice hotel.

Glad you arrived home safely! I wanted to agree 100% about Montserrat! We loved Barcelona but especially loved Montserrat and having the most perfect weather for our trip up there was the cherry on top!

Thanks,
Heather

Our day was a bit cloudy/foggy but I think it added to the beauty of the place...so cool. We took the funicular up from the monastery to the top. We used Barcelona Day Tours for our trip there and I can't say enough about them. They were wonderful. We were 8 people and we had a private van, driver and English speaking guide.

Sorry if this is a bit OT from the thread but wanted to post some pics of Montserrat.

Thanks for sharing :)
