Hi I was hoping someone here could help me. I'm trying to get a large print made to put on our family room wall. I need a 1000 x 1000 pixel picture, and I would like to get one of the grounds or the hospitality house of Old Key West.

OKW is our favorite place to stay, and The Gurgling Suitcase is our favorite hangout. However if there is a great pick of anything Disney I could go with that.

It has to be a 1000 x 1000 pixel picture, and not being a photographer I don't think the camera on my phone is going to do it.

Can anyone here help?

Thanks

Tom Bricker(WDWFigment on the boards) has this wonderful photo over on his Flickr page, maybe send him a pm and ask him if it's ok if you make a print.

You would just have to crop it to 1000 x 1000, he might even do it for you (that way it's cropped how he would like it to look).

Are you sure those pixels are correct? 1,000 x 1,000 is not very big.

Maybe this 1000-pixel image will be a picture on the wall in the picture on the wall? Otherwise … yeah. Not only "not very big," but actually way too small for almost anything. The most you'd get out of it would be maybe a 4x5-inch print, and that would mean stretching the "rules" of high-res printing.

In the earlier days of digital, 2MP (more than 1600x1200 pixels) did fine for an 8x10 when viewed at normal distances (ie a few feet back)

..but a 24x36 picture made from a 1mp file is going to look more like "Sunday at the Park" by George's Seurat.

Okay so I will have to look again. I found a company that will take a picture to make into a big wall poster that you can stick on your wall. They said all they needed was a 1,000 by 1,000 pixel picture, but I'm guessing from the responses that this is not big enough(I have no idea) Do any of you know of any other good companies that can do this?

okay it says at least 1000 x 1000 pixels, so what would be food to make a poster like five feet by three feet?

I'm guessing they're using some kind of uprezzing algorithm like genuine fractals or some such. It's true that, depending on the subject, a small resolution image can be printed fairly large when using uprezzing, but it's mostly dependent on shots without super-fine detail...lots of straight lines, like a cityscape. As soon as you get into complex colors and details, you will be better off with as much resolution as you can get.

Back in the early 2000s, I made a few poster prints using uprezzing from a 5MP camera - roughly 2560x1920 pixel output. Cropping that to square dimensions would mean 1900 pixels or so - that printed pretty good at 5 feet by 4 feet...but was similar to a painting in that it was meant to be viewed from a bit of a distance...closeup it would reveal a lack of any fine detail.

I'd say you pretty much want as much resolution as you can get, then use a very good uprezzing software to help make a very large print. Today's 16-24MP cameras, if using a good, large sensor like in a DSLR, and with good uprezzing software, can actually print to billboard size - or wallpaper an entire room wall. I think you're golden with anything over 3,000 pixels on the shortest side, or square...at a poster size, that would be good even for fine detail and closeup inspection.
