1000 Island Bridge to WDW

How was I supposed to know what the OP posted on a different thread?

Sorry, I see what you mean about the other thread but we could not have known about it.

I go I-81-I-77-I-26-I-95-I4. Little traffic and no cities.

Hi there - just found this thread. We are leaving on March 6 from just over the TIP bridge and heading down to Disney. We are trying to figure out the best route - our CAA Trip Tix sent us right through Washington last time - :confused3 and it took up a bunch of time. We checked out your suggestion of the I-77 - do you find it any faster? This may also be a silly question but how is the weather along that route? My hubby is concerned that it is in "the foothills" and we might encounter more weather (and more hills/mountains?) Are there rest stops along that way? We are travelling with a 4 years and a 3 month old. Also, how long do you find it takes you?
Any other suggestions much appreciated!
Thanks so much for your help!

You can cut your hotel/motel costs roughly in 1/2. We stayed outside Richmond, VA at a Courtyard for $55/nt, and at a Springfield Suites (less than a year old) in Savannah, GA for $50/nt using Priceline. (We also got the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando for 3 nts before our Disney check in, but it was over a $100/nt.)

The only real drawback with Priceline (if you're careful) is that once you bid, you're committed.

Most of the Choice Hotels chain are very inexspensive. Some include a continental breakfast with the room. Also, Motel6 has very value rates. The rates on their websites along I-81, 64, 66, 95, 4 were mostly consistent. They were all less than $100USD regular rate and most were less than $75USD.

These are not plush hotels with room service and such. These are a bed to sleep in. Most should be fairly clean.

One tip on road tripping: Take your own pillow(s) from home. It can make a difference when you lay down at a roadside motel.

Just don't leave them in a WHITE pillow case...They get left behind too easily.

I can't tell you how many times I have people left pillows at our motel. If they were in a bright coloured pillow case, they probably would not have been left behind.

We live close to the 1000 island bridge and go over quite frequently to the US. When you cross, try to stay in the LEFT lane- it ALWAYS goes quicker b/c the right lane just moves straight into customs, where as the left lane splits into 3-4 customs agents so you move faster. Also, try to cross at night or EARLY in the morning. (6-7:45am) After that it gets busy and you don't move as fast through. Also AVOID Sunday night no matter what- it is the busiest time at the border for crossing on both sides- and Sunday afternoon too!
We're flying down instead of driving in March. Have a great time!
