100 extra points

I am new to DVC - we purchased at Beach Club Villas on 2/14/2002. I find myself with 100 points which must be used before January 31, 2005. Our 2004 vacations are already planned so we will be unable to use these points. What, then, are my options for these 100 points and what is involved? Does the transaction go through DVC or is it handled privately. I appreciate any suggestions/help from those more experienced than I. Thanks.

I am assuming you cannot bank those points into the year that begins February 1, 2005, because they are points that have already been banked into this year. Therefore your options are to use them, rent them, give them away, or lose them. DVC does not aid you in rental or give away except to do any transfers or uses of points that you direct it to do. If you want to rent them, there is a rent/trade board on this site. Basically, that means becoming somewhat familiar with the rental process (which for banked points consists of your agreeing to rent to another person and then you make a reservation using those points and put the ressie in the other person's name). You can probably be better educated by asking questions of those on the rent/trade board. As for give away, I believe there is a charity hooked up to these boards to which you can trasfer points (which are used for Disney trips for special kids). Others can possibly fill you in better on that.

DevonsMom...if you need a home for those extra points I would love to take them off your hands! We are going to OKW in 19 days and a 2 br sure would be nice for the kids instead of the sofa!! Let me know...

I am interested in renting your points. My family would like to stay at the Beach Club your home resort 8/29/04 through 9/4/04 checking out on 9/5. I need 107 points for a studio. There is a 7 month window to book at other resorts unless it is your home resort. You would have to make the reservation if renting out the points which would require trust on your part & the renters for payment. You could set the terms for payment. For example, 1 day up front & final payment 30 days before check in. Check out DVC Board frequently asked questions it helped me as a renter.

One thing you might do is contact Member Services and see if you can use any expiring points on a current reservation in lieu of points in your current use year. If you bank/borrow points, I think they try to use those points first in any reservations, but you might want to double-check. If you can swap them for current points, you can then bank them for use next year.

Another option might be to upgrade current reservations - a 2 bedroom instead of a 1, an extra weekend night, etc. These are often things people will forgo unless they have extra points burning a hole in their pocket.

If all else fails, you can post them on the rent/trade board and perhaps rent them for a little extra cash to spend on your other trips!

What about a weekend getaway to one of the Concierge Collection resorts. I'd love to have an extra 100 points to splurge on New Orleans or Charleston or New York or Chicago. Maybe you could work something like that out!
