100 degrees...But it's a dry heat....

I live in the desert now and there is a big difference but the sun can feel like is trying to bake you alive when it is summer. It may only be 108 or whatever but the sunshine can make you feel like a roasting marshmallow. Drinks lots and lots of water and think about carrying an umbrella if you are going to be walking around the strip or a big hat(I have a big derby style hat I wear in the summer).I recommend alot of sun dresses for the time you are in the desert in the summertime.
From April until October I always carry a wrap with me because I will freeze in the a/c after being outside.

The good thing is that you will dry instantly when out at the pool but some pools just feel like I'm boiling myself if there isn't a cover over the water.

When we were in Vegas several years ago, June. It was hot but not horrible. We walked up and down the strip for an entire day, going in and out of the various casinos. Part way through the day we saw a sign and it was 106°. We were really surprised. We thought it was in the upper 80's. Same thing when we've been to Phoenix. We can be out and about when it's 100ish and not really notice the heat. Just make sure you have water with you all the time.

Humidity makes a huge difference. I've walked around Vegas in June when it was 105 degrees with 10% humidity and it felt fantastic. The week prior, at home, I melted every time I walked out the front door into 80 degrees and 75% humidity. Sun precautions still need to be taken, but it's wonderful to be able to enjoy the outdoors without looking like I showered with my clothes on.

Been hiking in Arizona with a 106 degree dry heat. Sweat evaporates immediatley so I was dry the entire time. Humidity on the other hand is very uncomfortable at a much lower temperature.

Once in Las Vegas with a dry heat temperature of 116 degrees. Walked all around the strip. Just fine, but drink plenty of water!

Oh, for sure. I live in Virginia, where it's nothing for it to be 100 degrees with 95% humidity in the summer. It's oppressive; you can't breathe it's so bad. But I've hiked in the desert with DH at 110 and felt just fine.

I used to hear this all the time when I lived in the desert of California. But 115 degrees is still freaking hot.

I live in NM. Dry heat in the summer, dry dry cold in the winter. I do have a hard time when we visit FL or TX when it's warm.

But the downside is, as you get older you get dryer. So your skin, eyes, sinuses, and mouth become deserts. Not fun.

Considering moving to the PNW to get some relief.

Humidity, Dry don't care just bring on the heat. love the soul sucking heat of humidity. Love the dry heat that feels like your baking.

Ill trade you the -5 degrees with sleet for your 100 degrees of which ever. :thumbsup2

I am with you - LOVE the humidity. It's why I LOVE going to WDW in August. Seriously, it feels amazing. We get the same kind of heat/humidity in MN, and I love it then, too. I would much rather take 1000 Florida Augusts then 1 Minnesota January. Blech.

We lived in New Mexico when dd was growing up. The first time we went to WDW, we had barely gotten off the plane at MCO when she turned to me and said, "What's wrong with this place? There's so much AIR here." :rotfl:

Yep, there's a big difference.

That is awesome!!

To me, 100 degrees and 15% humidity is more tolerable than 80 degrees and 90% humidity.

I'm not instantly soaked when I step outside with the lower humidity.

Summertime in Vegas....what can I say?:rolleyes1 Dry or moist heat, 115 in the shade is friggin hot:rotfl: But I wouldn't give it up for anything:love:

So what do you all think of this saying. Is it true?

Live in muggy Buffalo, NY, high humidity in the summers. Thinking of going to Vegas in July where temps climb upper 90's into the 100's. But it's a dry heat.

Does this make it any more tolerable?

I live in Vegas and a 100+degrees is flippin HOT. It being dry means there's no relief. It doesn't cool down at night here and a breeze it a hot breeze. AC is a mandatory thing. I tolerate it because our Fall/Winter is very mild. It was in the high 60s last week.

That said, my DH took me to MN during the summer and it was 99 degrees with 99% humidity. I have never been so miserable in my life. AC is not common where we were and I was eaten alive by mosquitoes. I still have scars from the bites, they saw this city girl coming!

Given the choice I'll take my bug less, scorching hot summers with AC every time.

My son and I went to Vegas a couple of years ago when they had record temps of 116, and we tolerated it just fine. We did some walking during the day but tried to stay out of the direct sun. We talked to a guy from Tennessee who said he'd rather have the Vegas heat and dryness than 80 degrees and high humidity back home.

Im from TX and am use to some major summertime humidity (heat indexes of 114 anybody?) I love going to Vegas and love the dry heat but my goodness does it zap the moisture from my body. I remember buying a ton of visine last time because my eyes felt so dry. You really have to remember to drink lots and lots of water!!

I've never been to Vegas (and have no interest), but have been to AZ, also dry heat. One hundred degrees is horrible, dry or not. It's nominally less oppressive than with humidity, but it's still too hot for comfort.

I would take dry heat. I live in Florida and when it is summer I do not leave my house except if I have to. So humid I can't breathe.

I will buck the trend and say that I HATE dry hear, or dry cold for that matter. Anywhere with dry air just sucks all the moisture from my body. My skin, lips, eyes...it's awful! When I am out west, I drink SO much water. I live in a high-humidity area though. It might be something your body can adjust to after a while, but I'm never there long enough to find out.

The only way I was able to survive during my various May-September Vegas trips over the years was to keep the booze going. I found it quite necessary to constantly casino hop while traveling up and down the Strip, but most people can withstand the heat much better than I can. I'm a natural cold-weather person anyhow.

I have not experienced dry heat, but I can do hot and humid all day every day then have cold weather, cold sucks.
