We are in the process of planning our trip in Feb.....my DS who is 10 does not eat alot...we are tossing up the idea of the DP but not sure if we should or not at this point...I have made several ADR at Chef Mickey's, Cape May Cafe (breakfast and dinner) LeCelliur, and 50's Prime Time...My concern is mostly at the buffets....He is not going to eat 18.99 worth of food...What do you think chances are that we can get a "childs" price at those buffets??????

We are leaning towards the DP because it will actually come out cheaper for us to get the DP if he will be charged as an adult at the buffets.......OH THE DECISIONS!:confused3

Dining costs are by age, not by weight of the food served or quantity taken from a buffet.

You have been on these boards since 2004 so I am sure you know what happens to those that ask, "can I say my 10 year old son is 9 so we don't have to pay adult price if he doesn't eat too much". Perhaps you should just do it, make the ressie and say a 9 year old, without telling anyone....oh no, now I am in trouble.

We just got back last night after spending 24 days at Disney. My 10yo DD ordered off the kids menus several times since we were not on the DDP. When I made my ADR's I always stated her age and our reservations were for 3 adults. When we got to the restaurants seveal time she was asked if she'd like a kids menu. Sometimes I would ask if she could order off the kids menu. The servers said as long as we were not on the dining plan it was fine that she orders off the kids menu. BTW, We never ate at buffets.

I think we are going to bypass the DP just for this reason...He is just not a big eater and picky.......Actually when I added things up last night the DP would only save us like $60........

You can totally do it at counter service, I do it a lot for myself even, but I don't think you can at buffets. CS you get a set amount of food and that's it, at buffets your 10 year old could eat and eat for all they know.

I agreee...they are going to charge him as if he was an adult, same as the ticket you buy him to get in the park. I know and understand your frustration, so do many others on this board. But at least we are all told before hand and it is not a surprise when you get the check. We have gotton use to having the DDP and not worring about it since we had already paid for it...but I don't plan on getting it anymore after this year!

It won't happen at buffets. He will be charged the adult price.

Not necessarily true. At lunch at H&V one year, my 10-yr.old ate very little and our CM noticed. She didn't even charge us for her meal! I was shocked -- and left her a nice tip!

This is one of the reaon we are now staying away from Buffets, i cannot justify close to $30 for my 10 year old, who really does not eat that much, on the other hand we had no problems at TS restaurant for the 10 or 12 year old to order from the kids menu.

I'm so glad to hear that. My DS12 is a very picky eater. Most often, he won't find anything on the adult menu he likes and would prefer a grilled cheese. I was hoping he might still be able to do this at some of the TS places. :thumbsup2

My dd was 10 last trip so we only did one buffet and made sure there was plenty of food she liked as well as characters she wanted to meet.

We had no issues ordering a childs meal for her at the non buffet TS or CS restaurants. Sometimes she would get an adult appetizer or soup & salad as a meal instead of the kids meal.

We have the DDE, eat breakfast in the room, have a late lunch as our TS big meal of the day and then CS for dinner so the DDP dosen't work for us. I would cost out the average amount you would spend per day by using your ADR's and the menus and see if it's cost effective at the adult price. Otherwise just limit your buffets and remember to cost in the "entertainment" value if its a show or character meal.

That would be a rare exception and noone should ever plan for that when making their decisions about dining.

ITA! CS and TS will not be an issue (I order off of kids meals for myself), but I would NEVER count on getting a discounted or kids price for a 10 year old at a buffet.
