10YO DD seems to be a popular phone person all of a sudden. This phone hasn't stopped ringing for her all night. Now, I can deal with this, but I would really like a few minutes to myself (OK, to DIS without having to answer the phone for some other 10 YO)!), but after 8:30 it gets a little annoying. 7 YO DS goes to bed at 8, and these phone calls start to wake him up!

What is an appropriate time of the evening to say "Sorry, we're not accepting calls"

Just ranting.

Thanks.

Heh, my brother used to use the phone ALOT, but he calmed down a bit after 8th grade.

What is an appropriate time of the evening to say "Sprry, we're not accepting calls"
Any time YOU choose. I say after 8pm is pretty reasonable.

This is funny! We discovered DD#1 had found an old phone and plugged it in her room! Well I don't know about you but here the rule is she can have a phone in her room WHEN WE SAY SHE CAN!!! So we took it out and grounded her off the phone for a week!
When she isn't grounded from the phone (her worst and most feared punishment--she is also 10) I don't take calls after 9.

in our house it's 9 pm. but, as you know, my 10 year old is my younger child.

after 9 they're all on AIM anyhow...

We said 7:30 until age 11, then it went up to 9PM to about 13, then it went up to 11PM after that.

My 10 yr. old DS's bedtime is 8:00. Now he reads till 8:30, but in bed by 8. I would say 8 pm is a good cut off for the phone. Hey, my 14 yr. old can't talk on the phone after 9:00, so 10 yr. old has to be off by 8.

This may sound unrelated but, hear (read) me out ~ ;)

In a post-divorce decree, I actually had it entered in court that ex could not call after 8 pm. Prior to that, he'd call whenever he wanted and, expected me to wake my then-3/4 yo!! I don't think so!! Therefore, the court order.

Now, it's still in place but, I can be lenient since DS is now almost 15 but, I've got a 5yo DD now also and, if those calls ever start disturbing her, you better believe the court order will be adhered to again.

And to show fairness, DS is allowed to call his Dad Whenever he wants or needs.

But, around here, I'd say 9 is about the general time to 'get off the phone' with friends. ;) (I've gotta DIS sometime!) :p

Nine is the limit here. At least for my 10 yo. The other kid kidnaps the phone and I barely see it.
I do have call waiting though.
