I think you are talking about the Wilderness (Bob Varley) virtual tours. OMG those were funny! They came a bit later but they sure made the chat room popular.
The first person I ever met in real life from the DIS was Bob's wife. We were going to a USA vs. Ireland woman's soccer game at Foxboro stadium and Diana was working the concession stand to benefit her son's high school. Bob was very insistent I had to stop by the stand.

THATS IT!!! They sure killed some time on cold, snowy nights. Now I have gotten too serious on these boards and need to lighten it up again. I came to this site to relax and unwind and buy George, it's going to be that way again!

Congratulations to you Alex!! I came on after you, not much later though I think. Started as Chat Host and progressed on to Moderator.

Nice looking back at the old board format. That is when I was "CarolAnnK" and prior to that, of course, I was "RatesGuru". Nice stroll down memory lane.

Congrats! Just curious--how have things changed?

Well, prior to Alex, the boards were a bright, fun place to be... LOL!! Just kidding Alex!!

It was a totally different world! A lot of us read every post on every board pretty much every day.

It was much easier back then. When I joined, there were only two boards and you could read the entire day's posts in no time at all. When it switched to a threaded format, then I started only opening the topics I was interested in.

We now have 32 cores and 9 servers

I remember how impressed we were when you finally switched to running MySQL on seperate backend servers. What was it, four HP Proliant dual CPU servers at that point I believe?

So, how grey has your hair gotten?
