10 year old ordering off kids menu - restaurants that won't allow this?

So, we're going to the World with my then 10 1/2 year old in August. He is a picky eater, and in most restaurants will prefer to eat off the kids menu. It seems like most places will allow this, but are there specific places that do not allow this (based on experience)?

We'll be paying out of pocket, not sure it that makes a difference.

From what I've read, the San Angel Inn is unlikely to allow him to use the kids menu - and this is one place where he would not like the adult menu.

Are there any others where people will have a problem?

Specific places I'm curious about - Artist Point, Le Cellier, Flying Fish, or Les Chefs des France...

The rest of our places are either buffets or places where the menu is basic enough (and inexpensive enough), where he can get by with either menu.

Thanks!

We had problems last year at Tutto.. My 13yr old wanted to eat off kids menu but they refused. We were going to pay with an adult DxDDP credit for just a kids meal- they would not allow nor would they allow me to buy him a kids meal oop.

simply order off the kids menu for him and if they question you just claim he's a 9 year old. It's just a white lie. It's not as if he's 15 eating off the kids menu lol. If they ask for id then just say you left it in the room. Kids dont carry id anyho. If it becomes a hassle ask to speak to a manager

The only restaurant that wouldn't let my 11 year old dd order off the kids menu was Tutto Italia.

My 10 1/2 yo was allowed to order off the kids menu at Le Cellier on Jan 29th and they didn't even bat an eyelash. We were also able to do it at Coral Reef and all the CS places.

Thanks for the input everyone... I'll remember that about Tutto.

As for fibbing about his age (or just ignoring it all together), my main concern about this is that I think he'll be listed in the system as an adult, based on our ADR's. That, and my highly moral son will give me grief for lying... even if it means him getting the chicken fingers he wants

Last summer my twins were 10. They are frat's and one looks older than the other. Our ADR's listed them as 10. Everywhere we went asked if they wanted kids menus. We did have the DDP. They were offered to order from either one, after I told the servers they were "adults" for dining. We ate at Le Cellier, Sci-Fi, and Teppan Edo. Only one opted for a kids' meal at Sci Fi because he prefers hot dogs over burgers. He still got the adult dessert.

The only place that automatically had them as adults was O'hana, but because that's based on age and our ADRs they knew to charge as adults. Nobody else asked. My son also had "adult portions" of the kids breakfast at POR because he likes the little mickey waffles better than the big one. They gave him FOUR!

So you don't really have to lie. Just ask for a kids menu if they don't assume and they won't even ask.

regards

When I make ADR's I never put age in, just the number of people :confused3
Anyway, I think it is redicilous not to let a child order from the kids menu. If you pay oop or not.

I can tell you specifically that we haven't had any problems at Chefs or LeCellier with my kids ordering off the kids menu (and my DS is an almost 6ft 14 year old). Be aware that if you order a kids meal at LeCellier-they are really small and probably would not fill him up if he is a big eater. A lot of places will give you an adult sized portion of the kids menu if you ask.

Since your son is 10 and not like 15, I don't think any server would even question him ordering off the kids menu. And since you are on the dining plan, no card will tell them how many adults and how many children.

We were at WDW in January. We were not on the dining plan. DS11 often ordered off the kids menu, even at Le Cellier. He's a big kid and no one ever said a word.

At what age do you all feel the cut off age should be to order off the kids menu? If it was bumped say to 14, would you still try to mooch if your child was that age?

We have the exact opposite problem. We exposed out kids to many different things and they developed a taste for adult fare. When we went to WDW we had to pay adult prices for our then 7 and 9 year old. Some times not having a picky eater back fires. lol

What about adults that don't eat huge meals or do not like the offerings at an establishment but are there with other adults who do? Why are the plain foods limited to children under a certain age? I think the age cut offs are stupid if paying OOP. Why shouldn't a kid be able to order whatever they want regardless of their age? So yes if my picky eater kid wanted to order a hot dog off of the kids menu at 14 then I would expect him to be able to do so.

I don't understand how it is mooching either?

If you are on DDP, you are in fact OVER paying if you get a kids meal, since your 10 year old is being charged an adult price. I think the notion of making a 10 (or 15 or whatever) year old choose from an adult menu when what they really want is mac and cheese is a bit ridiculous. Either you "waste" the DDP credit (or maybe get a larger portion of a child-friendly food) or you pay OOP (assuming they let you order a kid's meal).

I've never been to a fast food place (or sit down restaurant) that refused to let me or my child order what we wanted from the menu - if a child can order from the adult menu, why can't the opposite be true? (I do understand a child on DDP cannot order from the adult menu - exception noted).

And don't get me started on the 10 year old as an adult thing. I know it is Disney's policy and I won't ever lie about DD's age, but it is fundamentally a money grab and I don't have to agree with it.

I ordered off the kids' menu when I was about 35 years old. There was nothing on the Brown Derby menu that I wanted. They had no problem bringing me whatever it was I got. They even offered to give me extra of it...like a larger-than-kid size.

Not only do I not feel that I was mooching, I couldn't care less whether someone approves of it or not (and don't know why anyone else does, either.)

Disney is pretty good about it. :)

The childs menu is in no way a loss leader for Disney, regardless of who eats it, most def. not "mooching"

Yeah, I don't get that. You get what you pay for. With a child's menu that usually means child sized portions to go with thte cheaper price. The only places that an age makes sense to me are buffets or family style and I can understand the child ordering from the Children's menu when on the child DDP because the price is cheaper. You'd think as profit conscious as Disney is, that the waitstaff would be trained to allow ordering off the child's menu no questions asked for anyone on the Adult DDP, they'd really be making out on that one!

Had a "guest" order from the Chefs kids menu:confused3 once cwhile wec were at Bistro, she was mid 30's.I'd see no problem with a 10 yr old.
