10 Year High School Reunion

Apparently word of me being an excellent and thorough planner has gotten around and I have been contacted to help plan our class reunion. And they want to have it this September. Obviously, I have never been to a class reunion so I have no clue as to what to do. I am working on a venue right now but after that, I am stumped.

Anyone have any pointers? There were only about 100 of us in our class, if that makes a difference

I recently got an email about my 40th class reunion. Yes, I'm old! With the email came two attachments. The first was a list of classmates they were having trouble locating. Fine. The next attachment was a list of fallen classmates. There were 25 on the list. Talk about depressing! I realize that a lot can happen in 40 years, but that was something I could have done without knowing.

I helped plan our 10 year reunion, though we only had 36 people in our graduating class.

What we did is we had a family-friendly picnic at a local lake/park where everyone brought food and everyone was able to swim and play at the playground. That night, the adults went to our local hometown festival and got to enjoy the beer tent and free band.

It was great because you got to meet everyone's kids and it was a much more casual get together, instead of the formal sit down dinner that always seems to be so uncomfortable.

Good luck! It was a lot of work, but it was worth it.

When we had ours we had a pinic during the day and then that night at had get together at bar/resturant. Keep it simple

Our reunions are always held over the Homecoming weekend for the school we attended, so there are a bunch of "activities" that you can choose to attend. The reunion groups always have a float or car in the Homecoming parade, and graduates can choose to participate with their children. (I didn't do that. I live about 45 minutes away from there and chose not to take off work for a parade.) Then, that night, they have a small reception at the high school cafeteria and the reunion group sits together at the ballgame. (I didn't do that either. There was no bar at the reception, and it was going to take something stronger than punch to get me around those people). The next day, they had a picnic at a local park for the families. (Didn't do that either....see excuse above)That night, a sit down dinner with a slideshow at a conference center. (I did go to that one, because there was a cash bar)

My point is...keep it simple. Give too many options and you end up with tiny groups at each option. We graduated 135, btw. Oh, and make sure there's a bar.

I'm going to my 10 year reunion in August. So far the plan is a family picnic/pool party during the day and then we are going to a restuarant that night. Most of the planning/communicating about it has happened on facebook.
