Look on SouthWest. You can see what deals they have going out of your city. They often have flights for $29-$59 each way. You can also sign up for DING---it will alert you on deals going on. You can enter up to 5 (maybe?) airports, so make sure you pick your destination airport-so you can get a good return flight.

After you see what your choices are of "cheap" destinations. Look to see what there is in cities.

You can always go to a bed and breakfast or a winery.

Since you're in Seattle, I'd choose somewhere I didn't have to fly so I could splurge on accommodations and food. Vancouver? Is there a nice hotel in Seattle you could sneak away to?

Wait. I just re-read your message - are you in St. Louis or Seattle? :rotfl:

If it's St. Louis, I'd look into Chicago.

If you want to fly somewhere warm, try an all-inclusive place. Or maybe a cruise?

Sounds like fun!! Hope you have a great time!!

My husband and I just had to decide a similar trip for our 20th anniversary. We are on the east coast, so our options are different.

It seemed no matter where we decided to go that the cost would be about $1000, so we decided to do what we really wanted to do which is a short weekend cruise.

The cruise is really reasonable, and now I just need to locate good airfare.

Happy planning - and anniversary!

This is exactly what my dh and I did a couple years ago. We got a great SW Ding to your city, St Louis. Then we just researched your city and the things we wanted to do there. Fun trip! We also found a cheap flight and 3 night cruise out of Miami one year.

For some folks it only counts as a "real trip," if they fly or drive far away. You know your wife the best and can make this decision. DH and I were just talking about this, and for us it is all about the "getting away," and not about the "where we go." We can stay down the street in a nice hotel and have a fantastic time, just the two of us. Sometimes we make and bring our own appetizers and drinks, and just stay in the room. Super cheap and we have a blast. Often we bought the weekend hotel stay at a fundraiser auction for a deal and helped out another organization too.

All that said, I would splurge on a lovely hotel and nice dinners, versus putting the money in airline tickets, unless one of you does not consider it a special trip unless you fly.

We spend our anniversaries in Niagara on the Lake, Canada. You can fly into Buffalo, rent a car and drive there about 30 - 45 minutes, but you need passports to get in. The Shaw festival runs from March to September, and there are some great restaurants which are highly recommended. You can buy a package to include hotel, dinners and theater tickets. It's like visiting a small English town. plus there are wineries nearby to tour and you could make a day trip to see Niagara falls. NF is a real tourist trap but the falls are spectacular. Another idea is to fly to New York for 2 nights and see a broadway show. Feel free to PM me if you want more specifics. Happy anniversary!

Wow, Singinglizzie--that is exactly where I want to go for our 20th next month!

I've been checking out Niagara on the Lake & that city is supposed to be the most romantic place to go in Canada! The Shaw Club & Spa has gorgeous rooms & the spa there has a "learn how to massage your partner" session that sounds perfect for a romantic getaway! :cloud9: There's a ton of other nice places to stay as well & it's close enough to Niagara Falls to do a day trip over there. Tripadvisor has some great info on the area & a good forum too. Good luck planning!

Happy Anniversary!

thanks for your post all. I was thinking good dinners/some place fun with out the kids.

You could drive to Memphis.... I think it is about a 4.5 hour drive. You could stay in a hotel downtown, lots to see and do for adults in Memphis.

There is a beautiful Ritz Carlton right there in St. Louis. You can get a package at a reasonable price and stay club level, the food is amazing and is included with your room. You and your wife will be spoiled! I happen to know the manager at that property. DH and I love to be pampered and there. I think every women deserves to experience what the Ritz has to offer. Perhaps a spa day for the two of you?

We often drive from central WI to St. Louis for vacation. Maybe you want to consider heading our direction? It's about a 7 hour drive to Wisconsin Dells, but WI has tons of places to offer other than the Dells also.

With kids the waterparks such as Kalahari & Wilderness lodge provide everything you need. If you want cheaper accomodations, some of the hotels such as Holiday Inn Express, etc offer a continental breakfast & you can buy daily passes to some of the waterparks.

Also mini-golf, all-day gocart passes, boat cruises, duck tours.

For a more leisurely ride, you could head home going down the river road. If we aren't in a hurry we will go one way on the Interstate & the other on the river road.

You might be able to pick up a cheap fare into Madison if you hunt around, & rent a car there. Dells are an hour up the interstate and the Madison airport is small & easy to get in and out of.
