Hello All!

I have decided that after 10 years of being with my lovedest one, and never going anywhere further than one state over for a weekend trip - we need a real vacation!! LOL

I have been with my fiance for 10 years (nearly the end of our senior year of high school) - however, we've been friends since the 2nd grade. For some reason something just "clicked" that final year of school and he found out my interest in him and got the nerve up to ask me out. It was the best thing he could have ever done !

We've been through quite a lot together, and are still driven towards making it work to achieve our dreams together. He is a musician and I am a director. (Though, when we started dating, I was an actress! Now I've moved move behind the scenes.) It's been an amazing life, but as many may know - it's called "struggling artist" for a reason! We still can not afford a wedding like we want and similarly, we have never financially had the means to take a vacation together. I finally came to the realization that it is now 10 years... it is TIME!! I will find a way.

And the way came for me to come into enough money totally unexpectedly, that I decided to take us on a trip. And since there are only two places we want to go - Disney and Europe... it was an easy decision... Being that Disney is only a fraction of the cost and we'll be able to spend more time there without going TOTALLY broke! :lmao:

I'm doing this as a multi-celebration for both his birthday and our anniversary. I will present it to him on his birthday August 29, though the trip won't be until Halloween week this year. I can not contain it - but I know I must!! :scared: It is driving me nuts! LOL - so much I want to consult with him about!!

This is us - taken in fall last year -

Halloween is our absolute favorite time of the year - well above Christmas or anything else - hands down. And when we do get married Halloween will be a very strong factor in what we do (not cheesy, but with the flavor of Halloween and dramatic). So it was very easy to pick for me WHEN our trip needed to happen. Plus it's a bonus the weather will be not too terrible there at that time, crowds should be a little lighter, and we get to spend our favorite time together enjoying the festivities as we always dream of.

Since we don't have kids, we don't dress up anymore for Halloween and it absolutely KILLS us to not do anything. So we find other things to do to celebrate the time. But this hopefully will take the cake!

I have been to DW a few times in my life - first time being with my family when I was 4. I remember absolutely nothing about this trip except a few tiny things: FIGMENT!!! The Tiki Room (I sang the song for hours), Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit (I also sang this for many hours), the crazy fountains at Epcot that attacked my forehead as I peered down into a hole and received an unexpected wet frontside, and a few other small details here and there.

(Me and my sisters at Epcot)

Since that time I went back twice in Freshman year with my best friend, but so much has changed, heck - there's even another park since I went!!
My FH hasn't been there since his childhood in 85. So I can't wait to share this with him, we've talked about doing it for sooooo very long!

:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

So 10 years... the time has come for a real vacation!!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I will present him with all of this in a special format on his birthday - written invitations and such to peruse over detailing the special trip.

Here's what I have planned sofar:

DAY 1 - October 28
Leave Chicago on 8 am flight from O-Hare. Looks like this puts us there around noon Orlando time. Disney Magical Express to our hotel. I chose the All Star Music Resort for the duration of our stay (#1 because of the price range... I wish I could afford a deluxe or even moderate, but just can't float it right now - and #2 because I wanted it to be special and geared towards HIM for his birthday so I picked MUSIC for my musician boy!!). Hopefully we can get in to the parks at a decent time after arriving. I thought we could do MK our first day there. I'm keeping high hopes that there will be smaller crowds and we might be able to get a lot done. I made ADR at Tony's in the MK at 5:15. This I'm absolutely excited about!!! On our very first date we had Italian (all be it Olive Garden Italian, but I still loved it!!) and watched Lady and the Tramp at his house afterwards. So when I found out the very RESTAURANT from the movie was in the place, how could I resist? Then I find out the singers could possibly be there too, and if that is the case, I would love for them to come by our table to sing us the song. I swear I'll cry, but hey - that's what this is about!! But with dinner at 5:15 - that gives us plenty of time to get our butts back for the opening of MNSSHP!!! I do plan to dress up, but as of yet I only have ideas floating around. This is also killing me because I want to ask FH so badly what he wants to be, but he doesn't even know this is happening yet!! LOL. So as soon as he knows - the ideas will be flying!! I've gotten so excited reading the boards here about what goes on at the parties - so much that I booked us for a second night party as well (but more on that later). We plan to take advantage of the party and the opportunity to get on certain rides (Haunted Mansion was always one of the memories that stuck with me from my very first trip - I loved it SO much!!) We will be there until the minute they close!! LOL

DAY 2 - October 29
EPCOT!!! I totally can't wait to go back and see Figment again! :figment: He was such a fond memory of mine!! My parents had bought me a stuffed Figment in 84, and the entire drive back to Chicago I was holding him up to the passers-by in vehicles making him do little puppet tricks. By the time we got home his stuffing had lost all firmness in his neck and subsequently his head ended up laying on his belly! LOL. It just sort of flopped there. I used to sleep with him every single night gripping him tightly! I don't think I even stopped sleeping with him into Junior High, I swear! LOL. In any case, I look forward to "journeying" back into the Imagination and sharing it with Rick. And now that we have discovered both of our desires to travel the world, it is like it will be at our disposal right there with the world showcase! That is probably what I'm looking forward to most besides the parties at MK. Not sure what to do for lunch yet, but I had made ADR for 6 pm at the San Angel Inn because I do remember the ambience from my previous trips. But now looking at the menu I'm not sure if FH will like the food assortment. We are both huge Mexican fans, but I guess I'm a big burrito / enchilada fan... which is certainly NOT what they have there. Hmm... so I need to make a decision about this - something we will be covering when he finally knows. I printed up the menu options so he can decide. I have been pondering the Marakesh (sp?) in Morocco as a possibility though. I am a belly dancer and I also see they have a lute player there which he would love. The chicken dishes seem right up our alley, so I'm thinking I might swap our dinner ressies for that and maybe do Mexi for lunch at the other restaurant (seeing that they have more burrito type yummies). What do you guys think? Do you have any other suggestions that might be romantic and fun? I've been toying with the English restaurant too because we are going to England above all other locations when we can finally make it to the real Europe.. it is our dream to be married there (or Scotland). So it would mean a lot to us to do that. Too many choices!! :cloud9:

DAY 3 - October 30
So unfortunately this is our last day at the parks of Disney... which is sad. And also a cram day apparently!! We have to somehow fit the remaining AK and MGM parks into this one day AND I also scheduled the "Spirit of Aloha" dinner show at 5:15 for us, and the second MNSSHP that evening. Now since we'll have already been to a party, it won't kill us to not make the enitre thing if we can't. It just sounded so special from the forums - I got the tickets, if we don't make it - we don't make it, but I'd love to try. So how the heck do I fit that all in one day??? LOL. I am wondering if we might have time during our Epcot day, we might be able to "hop" over to one of the other parks and try to get some stuff in. I'd really like to see Fantasmic which we can't make on this night since it runs into the luau time-wise. So perhaps we might do that on our Epcot night. Maybe fit in some rides or something too when we're there. As far as Animal Kingdom goes though, it's new to both of us - so I don't want to just slip right through. Plus we are both avid animal freaks and would keep every animal on the planet if we could! LOL :simba: And we've got to make it on the SAFARI!!! And of course the roller coaster with a big 'ol yeti coming after you... can't miss THAT!! :thumbsup2 And at MGM there's just so much to do. I guess we'll be making it to one of the parks as early as it opens in order to fit as much in as we can. Also MGM has a couple shows we need to see. Like I said Fantasmic I totally want to see, never have seen it yet. And FH has never even been to MGM at all. I'd really like to see Flights of Wonder at AK if time permits, because I love hawks and owls. Hopefully... cross my fingers. And the luau should be fun. It's kind of a bittersweet thing to me. I went with my Best Friend in the early 90's and was chosen to go on stage to do the hula. So much fun. And I totally must have blocked the whole "show" aspect of the dinner, because I only remember the dancing and fire twirling stuff. But after my mother died in 2005 we were going through old photos of her through life. There was one taken of her when she was in her early 20's in the same kind of luau on stage at some place in Chicago (no longer there of course... :sad1: but she was standing in the EXACT same spot that I was standing in my luau and we have pictures of both to compare!!) - If I get a chance I'll try to post both. It makes me cry. But all in all, it was still a fun time there, and I can't wait to share it with FH!! Maybe I'll get to go up there again. And the food looked pretty good from what the menu showed. Then right after that, we'll be hopping back over to MK for our second MNSSHP!! And no doubt there 'til closing time again! ;)

DAY 4 - October 31
OK, don't get mad... still staying at Disney - BUT we'll be taking some sort of transport, be it cab or shuttle of some sorts (checking into what MEARS is offering) over to Universal Studios and IOA. Neither of us have ever been to those so it is gonna be a bast!! I honestly don't know much about it, but I can't wait!! We did get the extra tickets to "Stay and Scream" for their Halloween party as well. I guess no dressing up for this one though, a little sad. But I thought the scarier party for Halloween night would be up our alley, since we are big scare freaks. I like spooky and this might do the trick. If only Harry Potter were gonna be open... :sad1: I wanna visit Hogwarts!! LOL

DAY 5 - November 1
Sad to say, it's time to say "goodbye"... I think I might cry. We'll check out of the ASMU around 11 or so I think... maybe a bit earlier. I believe our flight home is at 1. I don't think I'll wanna go home.

Anyways, I'll keep you all posted as stuff happens. I'll try to post some more pics of past trips here as well. I would also love to hear any feedback or opinions on my scheduling - suggestions. And suggestions for costumes and stuff for the party!! popcorn:: Stay posted for more!!! And send some comments my way!!

Cheers!

Erica :flower3:

Welcome, and I love it when people scan old pictures of themselves from WDW.

I am going to move you to the Pre-trip board. After your vacation to WDW, give me a PM, and I'll move you back to this regular TR Board. I'm sure you will receive a ton of advice

I was almost going to steer you away from Tony's, but when I read how important the resturant is, I changed my mind. I hope the food is decent.

Great planning, and don't worry about Universal, lots of people go over to the dark side. My older kids were very appreciative when we did.

OOPS! LOL - sorry, I didn't even realize there was a pre-trip board! I'm still pretty new here, so haven't quite checked everything out just yet!

Yeah, I was looking at Tony's menu and the pics from there and it didn't look stellar by any means - but it will mean a lot and I think he'll get a kick out of it too, I know I'll enjoy it to be there.

I hope I do get lots of advice! Come people, advise! LOL :goodvibes

Tomorrow's the big day! I get to tell my FH on his birthday!!

I have all the cake makings which I'll be working on tonight. I've made his birthday card to give him - along with special little inserts to share. I'll post a couple. Also trying to figure out what to do exactly... got some banners and stuff. Not sure if I should take him out to dinner or if we should stay in.

Also looked at the price to stay an extra night and park hop - with airfare changes it would add on another $450... :scared1: So unfortunately that's a no for now. Makes me a little sad, because I was reallly hoping I could float it. But oh well. We're good, we can fit in as much as we want into the 3 days we'll have at Disney and 1 at Universal.

This is the insert for the card I made him

TOMORROW! I can't WAIT!! only a few more hours!! :woohoo:

EDIT! - Just so you guys can celebrate with me - that was my 75th post - which MEANS!!!

I'm a MOUSEKETEER now!! WOOHOO!!!

Changed some of our ADR's today.

I cancelled dinner in Mexico at Epcot, and swapped it out for lunch on the same day (the 29th). And then we'll be enjoying dinner in Morocoo instead on the 29th. I still wanted Rick to enjoy Mexico, but really wanted to fit in Morocco because I am a belly dancer and he'll love the music... so it'll be great for both of us. The food sounds pretty interesting as well.

I also recently picked up the express pass for Halloween night at HHN at Universal. Hopefully that will allow us to make the most of our day there.

Ugh, and evil EVIL United airlines bumped up our departure from O-Hare from 8 am to 6:30... that means waking up SUPA early to get there at least an hour in advance (and we are an hour drive as it is from O-Hare)... SUCK! :headache: We'll also be leaving Orlando earlier too, which kind of bites...

I picked up Tour Guide Mike to see what all the fuss is about... not enthralled yet but have gotten a couple useful tidbits. Don't know that I'll use it again in the future... haven't seen it's worth yet (for my purposes).

A couple things I wanted to see but don't know if we can fit them in or not (Fantasmic and Spectro Magic)... makes me a little sad. Hoping we can find a way to at least one of them. Guess it won't be the end of the world, at least I've seen 'em on YouTube! :lmao:

Well, I gave my fiancee his wonderful Disney present!!

I think it was a hit... but not ever without a hitch...

I decided to suprise him for when he got home, so I got a bunch of balloons and streamers to decorate the basement where I would give him his gift. So I ran home right after work to get it all set up for him, blew up all the balloons in the package. Then I quickly left again, as our normal plans are he picks me up after he leaves work from my house and we usually go over by his house for a while. When he picked me up he had a HUGE bunch of nice mylar balloons his mother had sent him at work... strike one against me I felt like... his MOM sent him bigger balloons then I got and even sent them to his work... I didn't do anything like that... :headache:

When we got to his house he did seem very touched by my decorating on the family room area. His special cake and everything was also waiting there for him right next to the big package which held all the special printouts I had made for his invitation.

First he opened the card which I'd made special with Lady and the Tramp. It really didn't say anything about the trip, so it was only a "clue" for him that Disney Characters were on it, and I doubt he thought anything of it being they have a special place in our history together. Then he opened up the little insert that actually had the invite to DW on it! He seemed very surprised, but also a little overwhelmed I believe. At this point, the phone rings and he picks it up...

Guess who? It is his mother... I just can't win over her. I just kicked back on the couch trying not to be hurt. She proceeded to have a nearly 20 minute conversation with him. Yes, it's his MOTHER - but he sees her EVERY day. He still LIVES there for goodness sake. It's not like she won't see him shortly. I was just a little ticked because I'm in the middle of something I've worked months on to only be interrupted by her. (Like she does with just about everything I do for him, thunder steal-er...) So when he hung up the phone, he got to open the rest of the stuff I made up - just little printouts with graphics and a basic itinerary for each day of our trip.

The next part I think that overwhelmed him - I pretty much gave him all of the stuff I've printed out along my way of researching for us to do on our trip. I know it was a lot for him to take in. I kept asking him what he thought of it, and he just replied that it was a great present. He just seemed so "blank" about it. He kissed me and told me it was good and that I was cute for doing it and making all these preparations.

So the Disney part of my night was over, so while he ran upstairs after our dinner - I lit the candles on the cake (just little letters spelling out "Happy Birthday!"). He said he was only going to be a minute, so I thought all would be fine. Boy was I wrong... He was gone several minutes. The wax was dripping down all over the cake now, and the letters were becoming illegible. I ran upstairs to see what he was doing... and, uh, he was indisposed for the moment. Strike 2 for me... ugh. I was going to have the candles all lit up for him to blow out as a suprise... and they weren't even sticks left and NO flames left by the time he got back downstairs... which really wasn't a LONG time by any means... but apparently the candles were not intended for anything more than a few seconds of light before being blown out... :guilty:

Then we watched some tv, and shortly thereafter his mother, yes his mother, comes downstairs to chat for a short while. I KNOW she gave birth to him... GEEZ. This makes me sound so terrible... but she always takes my time with him away. Weekends spent of time I have planned with him she spirits him away to her computer room to fix things for her, or answering questions she needs help with, etc. Or anytime I give him something that somehow he might see as "better" than what she has given him (which why would ANYONE CARE??? He certainly doesn't!) she busts some tricks out to somehow interrupt what I've done. In this case, she had nothing so all she did was literally interrupt. Usually it is more like "Oh, but IIIII did THIS for you, remember?" It boils my blood. But what can I do? I just sat there stewing while he chatted, trying not to give her a death glare. I think I succeeded.

In any case, I went home that night very unsure of how he felt seeing as his emotions weren't exactly riveted during the unveiling of the gift and with all the interruptions. But I was a little relieved the other day when he told me that he had looked online at the Disney site while at work and had ordered the Disney tour cd... :cutie: Small victory I think... YAY!!

It makes me a little sad when no one visits my page... but oh well... I'm still happy I'm going to Disney!! YAY! Can't take THAT away from me! LOL

In any case, news flash today! I think I'm going to be able to float an extra day at Disney after all!! If I'd have been a better planner ahead of time, I could have bypassed the HUGE penalty charges by United airlines ($200!!!) for changing airfare, but an extra day was worth it to me - plus the extra day hotel board, as well as the additional airfare above and beyond the huge penalties. I'm downgrading our park tickets to one park / day which chopped a bit off the top - so that helped a lot too. If I'd have been smarter in the beginning I would have done it this way anways. Now I'm kind of mad at myself for NOT doing it in the first place. Oh well, we'll be able to do it and that is what matters.

So now I'll be able to split it up really for a park each day which makes me happy.

October 28 - arrive and RELAX, maybe hit DD shops and a bit to eat. They've already bumped our flight up super early without my help, so we're leaving home at 6:30 am... YUCK... and should be at the hotel no later than noon I'd bet. So we'll hang a bit, hopefully nap. Then head to MK for MNSSHP and reservations at Tony's for 5:15. It'll be a long day, but no park pass needed for this day, which apparently I'd had before (and as a park hopper) - so this will save me some $$. You live, you learn.

October 29 - Epcot ALL DAY! My favorite, and look very forward to spending it here. Lunch in Mexico, Dinner in Morocco.

October 30 - Thinking Animal Kingdom, and TourGuideMike agrees. Spend a good chunk of the day here without rushing now (would have been split between MGM AND AK). At 5:15 we'll be at the Poly for Spirit of Aloha luau. Then to cap off our day, head back to MK for another MNSSHP!!

October 31 - Our first trip to Universal for the Halloween nights. Spend all day and all night until 2 am if we want!! WOOHOO! OOH, and upgraded to Express tickets for the Halloween portion of our day!!

November 1 - Our additional day!! YAY! This is our lifesaver! We'll leisurely make our way through MGM and enjoy all the surroundings! NO RUSH! Have yet to decide our meal plans since it's all so new now with all this extra time !LOL. Early night, it'll be good for us though. After park close, maybe hit DD again or just hang at the pool even! FUN!

Hi! I know you're excited about your upcoming trip. Congrats! My family is going back Oct. 16-21 and we can't wait!! My husband and I will be celebrating out 11th wedding anniversary while there.(Sept. 27th 1996)

I added on our additional day!! November 1st we'll also be staying over now!
And as an added bonus, it was actually less than I had just been quoted a couple days ago, so the girl who I originally spoke with may have mis-quoted me. But that was a happy mistake on my behalf!! I shall reap the benefits!

In fact, now I will be able to add the dining plan on to our entire package, when I get paid at the end of the month now that I have this newfound cash as well - we can afford it!! Happy times!

Counting the days, DF and I really need the vacation!! Work is really stressing him lately and I really don't get to see him much. This is much needed and we are so looking forward to it!!

:beach:

Looks like you guys are gonna have some fun :) I love your "vintage" WDW pic !!!

DM & I will be at WDW (split between POP & AKL) Oct 29 - Nov 4, going to MNSSHP on Nov 2 - my mistake,Oct 30 would have been much better.

Make sure to wear your lime green Mickey heads :earsboy:

Very cool! OOH, and I see Stitch as your Avatar! I've only just discovered him literally like days ago - saw the movie for the first time. He's now my favorite character. My fiancee likes to call things like that my "creatures"... I like all things with big cute eyes, they do me in every time. Stitch is adorable. Then I found out we could have breakfast with him at Ohana... oh boy, you can bet I'm making that reservation!! LOL!!

Gotta pick up some mickey heads, you're absolutely right!! :rotfl:

Ugh, and evil EVIL United airlines bumped up our departure from O-Hare from 8 am to 6:30... that means waking up SUPA early to get there at least an hour in advance (and we are an hour drive as it is from O-Hare)... SUCK! :headache: We'll also be leaving Orlando earlier too, which kind of bites...

same thing happened to me.
i booked united morning flight out of ohare on march 3.
in late july, i received an email that they changed my flight to 6:30 am.
fine with me, i'll be landing at mco at 10 am now.
i'm going to orlando for 14 days starting sept 24.

there is a direct flight from mco to ord on the weekdays that leaves mco at 6:21 pm. if you take that flight, you will have more time at disney.

October 31 - Our first trip to Universal for the Halloween nights. Spend all day and all night until 2 am if we want!! WOOHOO! OOH, and upgraded to Express tickets for the Halloween portion of our day!!

erica, the 31st is on a wednesday this year and that is a non peak night for HHN.
hhn will close at midnight.
i have been doing disney and uo since 1993 each year. i split the time between them.

i've done 4 years of mnsshp and last year did 2 different nights of it.

go ahead and dress up!
you will really like this hard ticket event. it is so kewl and fun.

this will be my 7th year of attending HHN. i always hit at least 3 nights of it. each night seems different and just as interesting.
if you like scares, you will enjoy hhn.

sounds like your agenda is great.
you'll need a vacation to rest up after your vacation..

Ah! You're totally right about the hours! I guess I didn't look that closely at the site! But I'll probably be so exhausted by midnight after a whole day there I'll want to split then! :rotfl2: That's ok by me. I LOOOOOVE scary scaries!! So does FH, so we're both psyched to get our shot at Universal HHN! Closest thing we have here is Six Flags Fright Fest... which - let's face it - doesn't really deliver, and I'm sure in comparison is insignificant! LOL. We're always looking for the best haunted houses out here, and sofar no one could really get close to what we're looking for. And I've only heard good things about HHN, so YAY! We're getting so close now to leaving! WOOHOO.

You can't dress up for HHN can you? If you could that would be sweet! The 'ween shops are starting to open up, so I can't wait to start perusing for costume ideas at least for MNSSHP. Halloween is the BEST!! At least it's our favorite holiday, so this is what we always look forward to. OOH, and decorating outside the house. Pumpkin picking... YAY! It's starting to feel "fall" outside too, so it's getting us all ready for it!! :woohoo:

you can dress up in costume for mnsshp but not for HHN.

UO has scareactors walk around the park and in scarezones. they want their scareactors to be the only ones in costume.

i live 10 miles from six flags.
have been doing their fright fest for a few shows.
it's always a let down as i do hhn prior to 6 flage event.

have you seen any of the youtube videos on past HHN, or the commercials on line for this years HHN?

have you seen any of the youtube videos on past HHN, or the commercials on line for this years HHN?

I did catch a couple little blurbs on YouTube for this year's HHN. They've got me all excited to go now! I keep browsing every so often to see if I find something new! ;)

Really enjoying reading all of your plans in your pre-trip report! :D I think the dinner at Tony's is such a cute idea! I love how the Italian food and the Lady and the Tramp theme totally work out together.. so adorable :D It's awesome you were able to add an extra day too, whoo hoo! I think what you did for your fiance's bday was great so don't feel badly about it! It sounds like it's going to be a really awesome trip! :D

Alright, I just confirmed with my siggy - I'm past the 45 day mark until we arrive in Disney!! My eyes are peeled to my mailbox - my DW travel stuff should be arriving shortly!!! :magnify:

What an incredible present - A trip to WDW!!! You two will have a blast and I love  your reason for the Tony's ADR, so sweet. I think it is a very smart decision to dump the park hopper option since you two haven't been in so long you can definately spend a full day in each park. And what will make your trip even more special is that you won't have anyone's mother there to steal any thunder. ;)

*does the 44 days to go dance with you*

I've still got 47 I think but that's close enough to dance :D
