I would really like to dine at Jiko, but looking at the menu - there are no items on the apps/salads/entrees that ds10 will eat. Any past experience on this? Were any restaurants willing to let your 10+ child order off the kid's menu and if so, did they upcharge it?

This is not an issue with some of the restaurants I want to book - for example - buffet, I know we'll pay adult price for him, but since they have chicken fingers and mac n cheese, he'll eat that and most other places have hamburgers (he really wants to eat at Sci Fi) on the adult menu.

The issue is not paying for him to eat an adult meal, I have no problem with that. And I have no intention on lying about his age - so let's not start a debate there.

Most of the restaurants around us have 12 and under or 10 and under child menu's. He normally orders from those when we go out, but sometimes he sees something on the adult menu and we'll let him order off it, or he has asked to order an appetizer as his meal.

DD was 11 the last time we went to WDW. She ordered kids meals at almost every place we ate. No one asked how old she was and we were charged the kids price.

We are going back for Thanksgiving. Now DD is 12 and DS is 10. They will probably order off the kids menu at most places and I"m not anticipating having any issues with that.

We don't use the DDP. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I would think if you are paying OOP you will be fine. I don't know how picky they will be if you are on the DDP. Theoretically, they come out ahead if you book the child as an adult and he orders off the kids menu so I can't see it would be a problem, but you never know. Probably depends on the server and/or restaurant.

My teenaged DDs (14&16) order the kids burgers at Sci Fi every time with no problem

We recently ate at Jiko and DD14 wanted a salad with her flatbread, but just wanted a plain salad, not some of the more involved salads on the regular menu. They gave her a child's salad and upcharged it by $2. It was definitely worth it as they gave her a large portion.

Thanks! DS does like salads, but plain ones. I saw the flatbreads, but I don't think he'll eat any of those.

He is a cheese pizza and hamburger & hotdogs kid. He won't try new things if he doesn't like the way it looks. He doesn't even like meatloaf. He loves spaghetti, but my dh hates it. Dinner at my house is tons of fun. Almost every night, someone complains about dinner. I told them all last week that what I make is what they get and if they don't like it, they can fix themselves something else.

Jiko was great about accomodating my DD's tastes. They can do the flatbreads plain. DD tried the spiced rubbed chicken flatbread made to her likes and loved it! I'm sure there have been other kids, and even adults that don't care for menu items as is, so hopefully they will accomdate his tastes.

...and I hear you about dinner...there's very few dishes my whole family will eat.

How about the buffet restaurants? We are going to Biergarten and Hollywood and Vine which are buffets. Will they allow us to get the "child's" buffet? I don't guess they'll ask about age.

Child pricing for buffets is for ages 3-9. 10 and above will be charge as an adult.

I know some of the restaurants don't allow it like,San Angel Inn,Tutto Italia, and The Plaza, most of the others we have had no problems at all.

Good to know. I haven't looked at those, but I know The Plaza has sandwiches.

Thanks! He would probably eat the chicken flatbread. I have been wanting to try Jiko and we are staying at AKL in May. I am definitely making reservations there.
