Is there any other tips to help a 10 month old's ears on the plane besides drinking on takeoff and landing? Thanks

pacifier works anything that keeps them swallowing

I know that drinking during takeoff and landoff is supposed to help, but couldn't always get my little ones to be willing to do it on cue. By 10 months though, I could sure get their cooperation by using a lollipop! The smaller "dum-dums" worked best.

Ask your pharmacist about a suspension liquid, such as tylenol motrin etc. We were told my my Doctor to use this about 30 minutes before take off and it worked great for the short 3 hour flight.

Good Luck

We brought ear plugs for our 10 month old in case she started hurting, but didn't need them. We also had her sippy cup on hand and tried to get her to drink during take off and landing. Our Dr. told us to give her Benadryl, too, but I know some people have problems with doing that...

We used "Earplanes" for our 1 year old and they worked well for her. You can find them at your local pharmacy (CVS) - they're little ear plugs that are supposed to equalize the ear/air pressure. I was a little skeptical about whether they worked, but decided to try them anyway. During the landing/descent, one of them fell out and I didn't realize it until my DD started whining...I stuck it back in and she calmed right down. Not sure they work for everyone, but they worked for us and I'll be using them again in December! Good luck!!

IDK what you typically allow your child to drink, but I was worried that my ds would not drink on command as another poster pointed out. He is usually only given milk and water, and juice is a special treat. So I took two bottles (he NEVER gets bottles at home as he was 23 months, but I bought the cheap ones because he always manages to find old platex nursers at home and want to drink with them so I thought it would help him WANT to drink) with 4 oz of water, and two little juiceboxes. Added the juice to the water once we were on the plane, and that boy didnt stop until they were gone! He didnt seem bothered much, but during the first landing he was sleeping and woke up during the decline, he wasnt a happy camper :confused3 I think it was just scary to wake up to that feeling. Other than that, flying went easier than I expected!

I know your child is much younger than mine, but we also took ringpops. We did not let him have it alone (omg, everything within reach would get so sticky :rotfl: ) but dh held it and let him suck. This was his first sucker so it was very appealing for awhile, but he did tire of it much quicker than I anticiapted. I think it was just too sweet for what he is use to.

The Gerber graduate fruit snacks are good at getting them to swallow too - if you child has teeth yet.

I know the Earplanes thing is always suggested but be prepared for the little one to cry more because of the Earplanes than the ear pressure. When our youngest was betwenn 1 and 2, we had to fly and he was just getting over an ear infection. (On antibiotics for only 3 days when we flew) I thought the earplanes would be a good idea - just in case. Well, I spent the $6 and tried to put them in. He screamed like I was trying to kill him. SO, no Earplanes. He was fine. We had juice for him to drink, etc. and we had no problems at all. Even at 10 months, those little ones can have pretty strong opinions about what they want. (or don't want!!!) Have a good trip!!
