Can a 10 month old ride this??? I have read conflicting reports.

I don't want to wait in line only to be told we can't ride, so if anyone has recent experience I would love to hear.

Someone may correct me if I am wrong, but I was thinking there was not a height, but an age restriction on this one. 3 years, iirc. Anybody?

Is the "age restriction" new? I've never heard of this (and I'm a pretty seasoned WDW goer.)

We took DS on at 10 months in 2006 and then last year at 2.5 years. Nothing was ever said to us. Both my neices went on as well several times before the age of three (2006-7mths, 2005-2.5y, 2004-18 mths, & 2003-9mths).

There is usually a Cast Member standing at the beginning of the line, you could ask him/her before entering the line and confirm if your child can ride or not.

I'm just surprised to hear about this restriction. :confused3

I took my DD4 on this ride. She had nightmares and screamed for weeks.

We took our 7mo on this last April. We had never rode it before and had no idea what it was. It was fine though, not any worse than POTC. He slept through it as I recall.

We took DS at 5 and a half months on this in September 2007. No problems at all.

I saw it posted somewhere that there is an age restriction of 3yrs old however we took ds on it when he was 1 and 2 yrs old....

Here it is on allearsnet
Epcot
Maelstrom (Norway) Minimum age 3 to ride; Guests with health restrictions and expectant mothers may wish to bypass the ride.

IIRC, someone once posted that they saw a sign outside the ride that said there was a 3yr old restriction, but in our many trips, I've never seen one :confused3 . I really don't think that they inforce it, if there is one.

Poor thing! The trolls are kinda creepy. My ds (now 5) has always loved this ride, go figure!

I never even knew about this age restriction. I took DS on at 16 months (2007) and again at 28 months (2008).

We took our dd on it at 15.5 months in Nov 2008 and there weren't any issues with it. She didn't mind it (in fact, the only rides/attractions she DID hate were Voyage of the Little Mermaid  and It's Tough to be a Bug).

My son has been on this at 3 mo, 19 mo, 21 mo, and 2 1/2 years with no problems. I never saw an age restriction posted (but I wasn't lookign for it either) :confused3

We never saw the sign either, but then I was never looking for it. I couldn't remember where I had seen the age requirement mentioned. Thanks for digging it up!

We had 5 kids in our group last time between the ages 4 and 7... they all hated it. The two 4 year olds cried and cried. I wouldn't advise taking young children on it. You never know how they might react.

We took DD on at 10mo in 5/07 & 22mo in 5/08 with no problems. She loved the ride both times! She's not afraid of dark places or loud noises though.

I cannot imagine this would be the only ride in all of WDW with and age restriction. :confused3

We took our youngest when she ws 11 months and then 2 years. Our kids all loved it. I've never been told that my kids cannot ride a particular ride due to age, only their height.

I have been on pregnant with toddlers and infants. Is this age restriction new? A friend took their 2 yr old and 1 yr old on it the other day?

Correct no height restriction but must be age 3 or older.

Now DS2 looks older for his age but we were never ever told about the 3 yo age requirement on any of the rides (nor did we know about them) I really do not think they inforce the 3 yo thing. for example they let ds (11 months at the time go on pirates, astro orbiter, small world, dumbo, I am trying to think of others and can't)

he was sleeping when we got to maelstrom. so can't exactly help you out!

We took our 12 month on it, no issue. (btw, to the pp who stated their 15 month old hated its tough to be a bug, so did our baby and 6 yr old. )

i can understand why there would be an age restriction. that troll would give any toddler nightmares! there is a little bit of a jerky motion too so I can see that they probably post a warning for those who are too little to sit on their own. that said, if you are "wearing" the baby like in a sling I can't see that you could be any more secure and should be fine. keep in mind it has been a few years since i rode on this so there may be changes that i am not aware of.
