10 Items or.....

One local grocery store has had a huge, elaborate sign over the ice cream section saying: "Frozen deserts"!

We always read it aloud, as in: "I'll get milk and meet you in the FROZEN DESERT". It's a horrible wasteland there, very dry and cold like the Gobi Desert.

Wow, I cannot believe this is an issue with some ppl. Really?? Believe it or not, the grocery stores in my area have had "10 items or less" signs for YEARS and years and years. As a matter of fact, I have yet to see a sign that actually reads "10 items or fewer".

Cornflake's right, though. The stores in your area have been grammatically incorrect all those years .

It matters to those of us who know it's wrong. I don't complain to stores who start with their signage indicating, ".... or less"; but I would if any store changed from, "... or fewer" to the wrong terminology.

We had Halloween competitions at work - one for funniest, scariest, most innovative costume; and one (according to the e-mails) for best desert.
