$10 gift ideas for older kids

Movie gift certificates or music store gift cards - all my teenage nephews would enjoy either one,

Another suggestion - mention the idea of a drawing names one amongst the adults and one amongst the kids OR buying for each family instead of every individual person- that is way too many people to buy for!

Yes, draw names... we have been doing that for at least twelve years in my DH's family (I've been with him 12)...

It has definetely helped. And sometimes all five siblings get a big gift for his dad, so its not a huge burden. Some years all five couples got together and got a gas grill, a TV, etc...

The kids all pick a name, and the adults all pick a name.

My DD got my ten year old neice and this is what she picked out... a black paper diary, gell pens to go with the diary., necklace, hairbands, bracelets, and a pink fuzzy mirror shaped like a heart that says Princess on it...

My DS got my 14 year old nephew, and he got them 2 computer games, (One being B-17 Bomber, and another being Battleship 3D, ) and a Lava Lamp.

Both of these gifts were under $15.

We tried picking names with DH family with the adults and it did not go over too well - they feel that Christmas is just for kids. Too bad for them - Christmas is for EVERYONE!!

Then DH and I thought of a toy swap with the kids where each child would pick out another childs name and swap a toy with them - problem was the age gap. The 3 oldest all belong to one family!!

Another problem with DH family is they don't all get along. There is such a big age gap between the oldest to the youngest it is like have three families in one - sad, but true. I am proud to announce that DH and I get along with all of them!!

On my side we do pick names with a couple of Aunt's and Uncle's and it works out great. Our spending limit on those gifts is $30. With one of my Aunt's we even put a twist to it and decorate them uniquely as possible!!

Thanks for all of the ideas - I wish I knew about the Dis before!!

Happy Holidays!!

Lisa

I remember when I was that age I loved cutisie stationery supplies like cute pencils and pens and smelly erasers. (Actually, I STILL like those things!) One idea is to make a little goody bag with a bunch of little things like that.

Also, I know lots of kids who like Jamba Juice. Jamba Juice sells certificates in $5 increments. It's also healthier than some other things.

Target had these cute little mini-calculator keychains for about $3, which I am giving to a bunch of my friends along with some other things.
