DD7 and I stayed for 10 nights. DH joined us a few days into the vacation and DD15 joined us the last few days after playing softball with her high school team. AS you can see from my signature, we have been to Disney quite a few times. It was 2 years since the last trip though and we were ready to go!!
Day #1
My DD 7 and I checked into CBR and went right in for 2 important things: Drink mugs (our first time!) and our arrival first snack. Mickey Ice Cream Bar!! I must say, 2 drink mugs for 10 days was worth the cost for sure. We were in a room close by and we used them for lemonade, soda for me, hot chocolate after night swims or watching movies. I had hot tea in the morning too. Loved it.
Chef Mickey's - Dinner.
This has been our arrival night dinner since DD15 was almost 4yrs old. We flew in right after Hurricane Jeanne closed Disney and basically had the place to ourselves. I think 3 other tables were filled. No joke. My DD played hide and go seek with the characters, Minnie paraded her around. I have a pic with all 5 characters and my DD on the floor. It was magical. So since then, it has been our go to place on arrival night. DD15 was a bit annoyed to not be there (playing softball instead) but it was nice to just have the 7yr old with me. We checked in 15 minutes early and were seated in 10 minutes. Lots of places to sit and TV's to watch while we waited. Also had the picture taken too. The food - average at best but the atmosphere, the monorail, the twirling napkins. Heaven for kids and kids at heart. My daughter's meal consisted of mickey mac n cheese, shrimp, corn, cooked carrots (she loved that they were long!) and too many trips to the ice cream bar. I had the orzo salad, lots of shrimp, roast beef, asparagus, and few tries of other food items. We honestly pay for the atmosphere and since it was only us two, the price was doable. Our waitress was the same one from last time we were there. I loved her. My only negative? The screaming kid two tables away. He screamed and cried the ENTIRE time. I guess about 18 months old? The Dad took him for a possible diaper change at some point but otherwise that kid screamed and screamed and the family just didn't seem to care. The families around him? They cared!
Atmosphere: 5 stars
Food: 3 stars
Service: 5 stars
Cost: 3 stars (if it was all 4 of us I would say 2 stars)
Day #2
Breakfast was a banana and milk as we waited for the EMH Epcot bus. We also stopped at Seasons to share a muffin and juice after Soarin. We needed carbs but didn't want to fill up before our "brunch."
Akershus 10:50am ADR - Breakfast
Oh where do I begin. First off, we have never been here and since it was just DD7 and I the first few days, I thought this would be nice. She is still kinda into princesses. We checked in at 10:35am via iPad out on a humid sunny day. We stood there outside for another 25min before our name was called. Already off to a bad start. I see my 7yr old Elsa fading as we are waiting. She was up early. We did TT twice in a row, then Soarin and Nemo. Then I dressed her up, braided the hair while she watched dolphins and walked to Norway. I was a little surprised there was no where inside or outside to sit. I also don't understand why we all had to wait in a line. They clearly were calling families in. Why was I waiting in a line? It was weird. But our name was called. Whew! Let's go sit down and get a drink. Wait no? We need to wait in a NEW line to meet Belle. Lord have mercy. I want my butt in a chair and I want eggs! But Belle took precedence. She looked nothing like Belle and had on way too much make-up. Emma Watson would not approve. But she was lovely and my 7yr old talked to her about books and it somewhat made up for the 35 minute total wait to be seated. Our waitress was quick. Drinks came out and the platter food was there within 5 minutes. Thank you! The buffet area? Um no. There was a bowl of yogurt that had more food pieces in there than I care to acknowledge. Most of the pastries were stale and honestly, the rest were mainly deli meats. The cream cheese, also in a bowl with a knife looking quite used. No thanks. I envisioned fruit and cheese. There was only one cheese - bummer! The strawberries were whole. I think there was some cantaloupe though so that was good. All in all, the buffet area was a big thumbs down. But I did get a plate of some fruit and a few pastries and came back to the table. The waitress that I said was so quick? Well as I just put some of the food from the platter onto my plate (my daughter was already eating as I was in the buffet line) when she asked if there is anything else we want? Do we want more of anything? Um, I haven't even had one bite yet. It's been like 7 minutes since we sat down. This is not the end of our meal here. It wasn't a "do you need anything?" it was a "tell me what else you need ASAP so I can finish this table up." I kindly said, not right yet, I will let you know. The princesses started coming. They were all lovely. Aurora and Cinderella were the best. The talked a lot and spent a few minutes talking. Ariel was pretty lame. Snow White was good. The little parade? Pretty cute. One thing I have noticed about these character meals is all the characters now seem to come in 5-10min span. I guess that is good in some ways but it felt too quick and rushed. It was always nice seeing them spread out before. That is not the case now. It is one after the other. Anywho, the eggs were okay. The cheesy potatoes were the bomb. Bacon and sausage were typical. Was it worth the cost? Heck no. I much prefer CRT. The atmosphere, the plated food and princess interaction was just better there, in my opinion. The waiting in line in the sun? Big thumbs down. We were also extremely rushed. We were in there for only 40 minutes including meeting Belle.
Atmosphere: 3.5 stars once we were seated (1 star for "waiting" area)
Food: 2 stars
Service: 2 stars
Cost: 1.5 stars
That was basically our lunch. We stayed at Epcot for a few more hours and then went back to CBR for a swim and dinner before my DD15 6:30pm game at WW of Sports. My DD7 and I ate at the Old Port Royale food court. We shared a $10 pasta your way. A huge plate of penne pasta, marinara with meatballs and sausage and a piece of garlic bread. With our refill mugs, we were all set. CHEAP dinner!
On the way home, I grabbed some breakfast items for the AM. Hard boiled eggs and bananas. We had granola bars in the room. It was EMH at MK and we would need our energy.
