10 Days in October: Argle-Bargle or Foofarah? UPDATED: POSTS #984 & 995!!!

Brenda, I am so sorry about your brother--here's a  for you and Grimmie, too! I am sure you are the coolest, funniest aunt your brother's kids could ever have. Just know I am thinking about you...

The trippie is still wonderful and inspiring! It is inspiring me to actually eat something at F and W this year--yes, last year we went and didn't try ANYTHING, no not a bite, from the different offerings!:scared1: I know that's almost sacreligious, isn't it? This year I'm way more into wine (that doesn't sound quite right:rolleyes: , but so true!), so I'll be on the lookout for the perfect Riesling, or close cousin. Can't wait for the next update!

When at a loss for what to say  For Brenda
As for your trippie, another fun installment. Who doesn't love a good Simpsons reference? I can see the music!

:grouphug: for Brenda, from everyone that luvs you on the "internets".:grouphug: Sibling relationships are a special kind of crazy, especially the big brother/little sister kind. I think it's awesome that you have a relationship with his children - my brother and sister-in-law don't/won't have children of their own, and the relationship that they have with my kids is really unique. I'm sure you raised a glass to him last night.

Lovin' all the foodie pics. Wonder if I can convince the DH that we NEED to try something from everywhere for F&W this year? Last year I just got a glass of champagne - do you believe THAT?!? I had no idea what the big fuss was about. Thanks to Brenda for showing me the F&W way! :worship:

Brenda, thank you for sharing those feelings with us. Its always good to get things out without holding them inside. Believe me, I know all too well. So, many  for you from your internet buddy :goodvibes :flower3:

Before leaving the warmth of Mexico we wandered around the marketplace and commented on two things which we found both hilarious and a little sad:

1) Every family that came through while we were there stopped to try on a sombrero for a family photo-op but never actually bought anything;

2) They sell margarita mix and Tostitos in the Mexican marketplace but not Tequila or chocolate.

Feel free to talk amongst yourselves about these two fascinating observations, and once you're finished why don't you join us at the next food booth which, considering the weather, seems particularly fitting.

Now, I might be just having a dumb moment (hey it happens), but what does the fact that Mexico not selling chocolate have anything to do with it?!
I've seen many a family go through there and do the obligitory sombrero pic. I bet if you had everyone post on the DIS their pic, the thread would be overloaded!

 to you.

As for the trippie itself, I love food porn! Keep it coming.:thumbsup2

Thanks Paige. :flower3:

And there will be much more food porn to come - I've just decided to re-post segments of my food report here so you'll get to see all kinds of pictures. It's actually making me hungry. :lmao:

first off: a hug for you my friend

Thank you so much, Tracy - right back at ya!

Do you know how excited I was to see yet another post??? And as always, it fit the bill!

And thanks for that, too... you just made my day! :goodvibes

I love looking at your food porn! And Latin food? OOOH WHEEEE, GIRL!!!! I'm hitting Muchos Gracias tomorrow. (our local hole in the wall, killer Mexican food with superb Margarita's to boot!!!):woohoo:

I love food porn, too! Be sure to keep an eye out for new food porn coming in June from our trip coming up in three weeks!! :yay:

Hope you have fun tonight - I'm going to see if I can convince Jay to make a batch of mango margaritas tonight. No dinner needed....just a few drinks! :thumbsup2

First thing's first:

 Because you need it. Because we all need it. Heck, here's a few more for good measure.

Thank you very much.

Ok. Now that we've got the Lovefest going on, I can be snarky again.I don't know what scared me more: Worther's pee or Spicy Butt. I love the Worther's candies, so I'm sure I'd like the drink, but the commentary just killed me.

Snarky is how I like you!! ;) I'm not sure why I switched into body-function speak during that installment...guess I spent too much time hanging around doctors this week.

(Well, I guess I'm guilty of icky descriptions, too. I found myself telling people that the early June 1998 trip I took to WDW was like "being inside someone's mouth" from morning to night. Blecch.)

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Loved the food porn redux. And the sombrero pics for most families are a must. I know quite a few people who do the Silly Hat pics for any hat their find. That saves them some serious dough yet all the fun of wearing the hats. Those wood animals are cool looking. But they're no giant tissue paper flowers. ;)

I guess I'll keep posting the food porn since everyone seems to like it so much - and it will help get me into the proper frame of mind for our upcoming trip. :thumbsup2

We too are guilty of the sombrero thing, it was just on this particular day there must have been 15 families one right after the other who came in, made a bee-line for the sombrero stall, took a picture, and then turned around and left. It was so funny to watch! :lmao:

Waaaaahhhh! I wanna see scary giant paper flowers!!! ;)

I know it's only 6:00 A.M. and I'm still half asleep, but I posted a hug for you last night (I wasn't drinking, so I know I did!!) and somehow this morning *poof* it's gone! So here are some more hugs for you. I'm so sorry about your brother.

Thanks Lori - you posted double hugs and that made me feel extra special!

And thank you for another great installment. The food and drink looks mahhhvelous! I can see that DH and I will have to pace ourselves in Oct. so we can manage to sample everything that suits our fancy!

Hope you have a great day.:flower3:

Thank you for still reading after all this time...didn't I start this three months ago? I'm surprised no one's been posting "GET A MOVE ON!" in 7-point type. Actually, I'm glad no one has done that because shouting in big text gives me a headache. ;)

Yes, you must pace yourself at F&W in October. We spread our sampling out over four days and we found that it worked really well - that way we were never too stuffed to enjoy the food and drink. And Jay never had to worry about splitting his pants! :rotfl2:

Thinking of you Brenda - glad you told us the story. I'm sure you've prompted several of us to call our sibs today or treasure a little more the memories of the ones we've lost.

Thanks for sharing.

Big Hugs.
Leah

Thanks so much Leah - I was leary of posting that at first because I was afraid that I might bum people out, but I just really needed to say something. Thanks to all of you for allowing me to do that and for being so kind. :grouphug:

Brenda, I am so sorry about your brother--here's a  for you and Grimmie, too! I am sure you are the coolest, funniest aunt your brother's kids could ever have. Just know I am thinking about you...

Thanks so much - I will be seeing Grimace tomorrow and will be sure to give her an extra hug. She won't know why but since it's close to Mother's Day she'll allow it (otherwise she won't get her gambling money!).

The trippie is still wonderful and inspiring! It is inspiring me to actually eat something at F and W this year--yes, last year we went and didn't try ANYTHING, no not a bite, from the different offerings!:scared1: I know that's almost sacreligious, isn't it? And thank you the kind words about the trippie. :flower3:

You know, the first time we went to the F&W festival we didn't try much either - we just kind of wandered around getting a feel for how things worked but I was a lot pickier about food then and we didn't feel like coughing up the extra money for the food samples (it does get pricey after a while). But on the second trip a year later we were prepared and that's when we went to town and have never looked back! If you like wines you should keep an eye out for the different wine seminars they'll offer on a daily basis - they're free!! :thumbsup2

When at a loss for what to say  For Brenda  As for your trippie, another fun installment. Who doesn't love a good Simpsons reference? I can see the music!

Thank you so much - I really appreciate that. And thanks for continuing to read. That Simpsons episode is one of my favorites...Duff Gardens...the 7 Duffs...the sandwich...Homercles...I think I'm going to have to go home tonight and watch it again! :lmao:

:grouphug: for Brenda, from everyone that luvs you on the "internets".:grouphug: Sibling relationships are a special kind of crazy, especially the big brother/little sister kind. I think it's awesome that you have a relationship with his children - my brother and sister-in-law don't/won't have children of their own, and the relationship that they have with my kids is really unique. I'm sure you raised a glass to him last night.

Thanks so much - you guys are all wonderful. :grouphug:

And you're right - we did raise a glass. But the next time I'll remember to do it before I take the darvocet. ;)

:worship:

I'm glad you're enjoying the F&W pics - there are plenty more to come. As for convincing your DH to sample a little of everything...what are some of his favorite foods? Once you answer that, find a booth that is selling it, or something similar, purchase and eat it... then he should be hooked! All Ears will usually post the food booth menus and prices shortly after the festival opens at the end of September - you can strategize in advance ( or you can just drool, like me! ).

Brenda, thank you for sharing those feelings with us. Its always good to get things out without holding them inside. Believe me, I know all too well. So, many  for you from your internet buddy :goodvibes :flower3:

Thanks so much, Jen - I really appreciate that.

Now, I might be just having a dumb moment (hey it happens), but what does the fact that Mexico not selling chocolate have anything to do with it?!

If I remember my history correctly... when the Spanish conquistadores first arrived in Tenochtitlán in 1519 they were granted an audience with Moctezuma who was drinking the Aztec version of what we now know as hot chocolate. It was made with the Cacao bean, which at the time only grew in the "new world." I may be over-simplifying things, but you could say that the Aztecs in particular and Mexico in general introduced chocolate to the rest of the world. And that's why we were surprised that there was none available for purchase...(we were buying chocolate around the world for Jay's mom and that's where the whole comment originated from).

I've seen many a family go through there and do the obligitory sombrero pic. I bet if you had everyone post on the DIS their pic, the thread would be overloaded!

As I mentioned earlier ... we've done it too! I've just never seen such a rapid succession of families pop in for a sombrero photo-op and then pop right back out. It was very amusing to see.

I probably should have explained that a little better in my original update. Where the heck were my editors???!? :lmao:

Thanks again to all of you wonderful DISers for reading and commenting. And thanks especially for allowing me to share a little personal history last night - it really did help to get that off my chest. :grouphug:

Heheh. If you enjoy me being snarky, you'll probably like my latest pre-trip
update. I have a major snarkfest going on. ;) And I guess I'll give you a
free pass due to the Jonestown Kool-Aid they made you drink.

Waaaaahhhh! I wanna see scary giant paper flowers!!! ;)

Google is your friend. You can see them if you search for "Mexican paper
flowers". Did you know that they are not only easy to make, but you can
make them just in time for Cinco de Mayo? They also use the paper flowers
in the Day of the Dead celebration in the fall. And, because I know they
can be made cheaply at home, I'm amazed that some links I found show that
people are selling these for much higher prices than I would expect.

:rotfl2: That was excellent - a most snarky update! Glad everything has apparently been worked out, though. :thumbsup2

Ahhhhh, now I understand. I had no idea they were for anything specific - call me a dummie. Actually, I think I'm kind of glad that they don't have giant ones in Epcot any longer...otherwise I I'd start wondering which one is the giant man-eating plant a'la Little Shop of Horrors. :lmao:

Brenda for someone who gives us so many great laughs daily we'll allow you to be sad for a while.....

PS....Am sure your brother Mike would be equally as proud of you as you clearly were of him...Keep smiling love :flower3:

PPS...Don't tell the fella with gun someone sent you flowers:rolleyes1

Thanks so much AFEG, both for your kindness and for for providing just as many great laughs. You are a gem!

In this case I don't think he'd mind at all. I have a feeling when you two meet in October he's going to like you a lot. :thumbsup2

See ya later Mr. Mysterious. ;)

Brenda, I'm sorry about your brother. I can only imagine how hard that must have been (and continues to be) for you to go through.

Great latest chapter! I finally got around to watching the Plankton video; my 10 and 8 dds watched it with me. Now I keep hearing, "Can we please take a mascot with us and take pictures all around Disney World?" Great:sad2:

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm glad this is taking a long time to finish--I love the way you write!:cheer2:

Tuesday, October 24th - I said Food and Wine, not Phooed and Whine...

You may be wondering at this point "what's that pesky Plankton fella been up to while you and Jay were stuffing your faces?"

That's a perfectly good question.

And we actually had to ask it of each other because the little bugger slipped away from us on more than one occasion in his efforts to build an army of mindless minions to further his scheme to take over the World.

Here he is in a display cart near the Mexico food booth, pretending to be a jalapeno pepper:
DSC01417.jpg

Be careful! I bet his rating on the Scoville Scale would be higher than a Habanero; if you factor in extra pungency for the black unibrow he might actually score higher than standard grade US pepper spray. ;)

After our snack in Chile we spent some time in Norway, which is one of our favorite areas of Epcot. Today we re-visited some attractions that we hadn't seen for a while including the Stave Church. We'd forgotten about the Viking exhibit inside the church, which is really cool. I've been a huge fan of Norse mythology since reading In the Morning of Time in junior high, and Jay and I both think Viking history is fascinating.

**Did the needle on your dork-o-meter just jump off the scale?**

Plankton enjoyed the weaponry display (of course) and was delighted by the Viking ship - he refused to leave until we took his picture.
DSC01421.jpg

Every time we bop around Norway, Jay and I have to ride Maelstrom - this attraction hasn't lost an ounce of charm for us since we first experienced it in 1996. It's goofy, but it's so much fun and we love the trolls! :lmao: After we skip the tourism movie we always browse in the Scandinavian stores - my personal favorite is the area in the back that sells all the Nordic sweaters. I have wanted to buy one of those babies for as long as I can remember but even someone as spendthrift as me has a hard time justifying $200 for a sweater.

Today's weather had given me the perfect window of "just charge it" opportunity. And I did look...and I found one that I really liked...and this great guy I'm married to actually told me to go ahead and buy it since it was so cold outside...and...and...and...

I walked away from it.

To understand what an achievement this is...just picture me going to Borders, picking out several choice books I've been aching to read, getting in line to pay for them and then suddenly putting them all back, only to walk out of the store empty-handed.

If only I could exercise that much self-restraint all the time. ;)

Before moving on in search of more food, we had to take advantage of one last photo-op, which was just too good to be true.

We call this: I Will Hug Him and Squeeze Him and Call Him George...
DSC01422.jpg

This has to be my favorite of all the Plankton pictures we took during the week - I still laugh like a loon every time I see it. And if you could have seen the looks we were getting from other guests and CMs while we were taking this picture...I'm surprised Disney's Mental Health Brigade didn't capture us in America-town and ship us off for counseling. :rotfl2:

Our next stop was China where we once again failed to take a picture of the food booth.

Food Choices: Chicken Sha Cha Skewers with Peanut Sauce; Pork Pot Stickers; Caramel Ginger Ice Cream.

Beverage Choices: Green Tea Plum Wine Cooler; Hua Xia Cabernet Sauvignon; Tsingtao Beer.

We ordered the Chicken Sha Cha Skewers with Peanut Sauce and a Green Tea Plum Wine Cooler.
DSC01423.jpg

I'm not a big fan of Asian foods, but I must go on record saying that this was an outstanding entry from our one billion-plus friends on the other side of the Great Wall. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the peanut sauce was very subtle. Too much peanut flavoring and they could have run the risk of this sample tasting like a chewy boiled peanut, but yummy in my tummy - it was just right. And if there is a single drink that you try at next year's F&W Festival it should be this wine cooler. I admit to being skeptical of this mix of flavors but it was very good. We probably would have enjoyed it just a bit more if we had tried it on a day when the temperature made it out of the 50s, but hey, you take the good with the bad and then you order another wine cooler!

We used the massive China-mart as a means of restoring our body temperatures to normal once we finished our yummy food and booze samples. On our way out we found Plankton working on his recruiting spiel:
DSC01424.jpg

And then I spotted a very pretty young woman posing for pictures primarily with young boys and men. I nudged Jason. "Hey, you should go get your picture taken with that Geisha."
DSC01425.jpg

**SIGH** Sometimes I'm just not the sharpest tool in the shed. It took another five minutes for my brain to start working, by which time we were practically in Germany. I realized two things...no three, yes three things, in quick succession:

1) Geishas are from Japan, not China, dumba$$.

2) Regardless of the country of origin, there's no way that Disney would have a Geisha wandering around the Walt Disney World Resort - that's not exactly a family-friendly promotion. ;)

3) That was Mulan.

Another great episode Brenda - loved the troll and Planky piccie:goodvibes

ps - I didnt guess it was Mulan either - duh!

Love the Plankton pictures once again, Brenda!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: DS is sitting here with me, and you started our day off with a great laugh.

I had to show DH the China food and wine offerings, and we agreed they look fabulous. DH told DS he and his sister may have to rent a double stroller and push Mom and Dad around the WS!;)

Brenda, I'm sorry about your brother. I can only imagine how hard that must have been (and continues to be) for you to go through.

Thank you Denise. Today is a much better day, even if we do have a date with Grimace. :scared1:

Great latest chapter! I finally got around to watching the Plankton video; my 10 and 8 dds watched it with me. Now I keep hearing, "Can we please take a mascot with us and take pictures all around Disney World?" Great:sad2:

Thanks again and I'm glad you and your daughters enjoyed the video. I told Jay about your DDs request for a mascot and he winked at me and said, "We're such a bad influence."

Sorry for creating a potential issue there... ;)

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm glad this is taking a long time to finish--I love the way you write!:cheer2:

Denise

Oh, thank you so much...any time someone says that it makes me all warm and fuzzy. I feel like Sally Field during her Acadmey Award acceptance speech: You like me! You really really like me!! :goodvibes

Thanks again Denise.

PS. If you really want more to read there will be a trippie from our end of May trip...apparently I just don't know how to stop!

Another great episode Brenda - loved the troll and Planky piccie:goodvibes

ps - I didnt guess it was Mulan either - duh!

Hi Karen - hope that you're feeling better since you made it over here to do some reading. As for Mulan...I'd never even seen the movie but the last light bulb clicked on when I realized that the only people wandering around the parks posing for pictures are cartoon or movie characters.

At that moment I did not feel smarter than a 5th grader. ;)

Love the Plankton pictures once again, Brenda!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: DS is sitting here with me, and you started our day off with a great laugh.

Excellent - I'm glad you enjoyed them. That troll picture will always be my favorite. :thumbsup2

I had to show DH the China food and wine offerings, and we agreed they look fabulous. DH told DS he and his sister may have to rent a double stroller and push Mom and Dad around the WS!;)

Is the stroller for the in-laws because they will be eating so much they won't be able to walk under their own power or is it because that's the only way you guys will be able to get them to tolerate a leisurely snack around the WS?

There are more yummy pictures to come - so stay tuned!

Thanks for reading, Lori! :goodvibes

Could it be that you'd finally have to admit to Grimmie that you were cold enough to buy one?:rotfl2:

Thanks for the update B. I look forward to more.

Nancy i just thought Jason was pleased to see the "working girl":rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Hi Brenda, just caught up on your TR again. I was sorry to read about your brother. It must be very hard for you on special occasions when you would be together. I love all your Plankton pics - you really are very funny!:rotfl2: The food from the F&W booths look rather appetizing. I would love to have tried the fish and white wine:cool1: Looking forward to reading more of your adventure.:yay:

OMG - Random Looney Tunes Quotes!! :lmao: :lmao:

My friends and I quote this all the time!! In fact, my friend named her hamster (the real one, not the one that runs on the squeaky wheel in our heads in order to make our brains work) George! hee!!

I so have to find some kind of a mascot for our trip in November... :woohoo:
