10 Days in October: Argle-Bargle or Foofarah? UPDATED: POSTS #984 & 995!!!

If you're ever in the area again let me know - our personal library is open in the evenings on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; special viewings on Saturday afternoons. ;)

This made me laugh!:rotfl2:

Gone With the Wind has been one of my favorites since the first time I read it when I was 12; it's actually responsible for turning me into a history geek because it really sparked my interest in this thing called the Civil War that I'd never really heard about before. And if I have a true favorite author...it's gotta be Jane Austen - have you read Northanger Abbey? That's actually my favorite work of hers. I'm a big Edith Wharton fan, too.

That's funny, I read it when I was about 13, and read it so many times my old copy fell apart. It's turned me into a mild history geek, the Civil war fascinates me, but I get my fix now by watching the History Channel.
Never read Northanger Abbey, I'll have to try that sometime. Though, I never did like Sense and Sensibility all that much for some reason. Jane Eyre is another favorite too.

Thank you so much for the offer - I will check with Jay. My parents were actually just in Vegas a few weeks ago and they brought him a ton of HRC pins. You know...we actually have an aunt and uncle who live in Henderson...Jay and I have been talking about taking a trip out to Vegas to see them since it's been about 3 years since we were last there. Maybe we can try to plan a quick meet and drink once the travel stars are properly aligned sometime early next year, most likely.

That would be fun!! :cheer2:
Maybe go out for lunch, with lots of drinks. I usually have a little chatterbox in tow. :princess:
If there are any he's looking for in particular, we can keep an eye out. :)

Thanks everyone for reading so far - you guys are great! Today's rallying cry: Dis-Dorks of the World, Unite!!!!!!

**Update coming late this afternoon / evening**

A rallying cry? Next thing you know we'll have a theme song! :lmao:

Monday, October 23rd - Once You Begin Down the Dork Path, Forever Will it Dominate Your Life.

As I was saying before I fell asleep at my computer last night, Jay and I are dorks of the highest order. We're comfortable with that, and actually as we've matured...hahahahaha - maturity, right...we've learned to revel in our shared dorkiness. It's part of our mutual charm. ;)

Anyway, once we booked the 7-night Western cruise scheduled to leave Port Canaveral on 10/20/07, I did what any self-respecting Dis-er would do: I hot-footed it over to the cruise boards and subscribed to the cruise meet thread for our sailing. Let me just say that there are some terrific people on that thread - friendly, warm, funny, supportive, generous and caring. They're a chatty group, too, which explains why I don't recall exactly how the Hard Rock Cafe ended up as a topic of conversation one day. But it did, and that's where Lindy Loo stepped in and made an offer that knocked my socks off.

She offered to pick up a couple of pins from the London HRC for my dear husband. I was so excited to be able to do this for Jay and I couldn't wait to tell him that someone from the cruise was going to get him some pins from the original HRC. But before I even had a chance to say anything to the hubby, this wonderful woman whom I'd never before met then offered to take herself and her friends on a global HRC pin hunt for us. Turns out she travels for work and she has friends who travel and suddenly there was a small army of British people looking for Hard Rock Cafes and buying guitar pins for a pair of crazy Americans.

How cool is that? :thumbsup2

We arranged to meet up at the Grand Floridian on Monday afternoon to exchange pins and currency because their daughter was participating in the Wonderland Tea Party and adults were strictly forbidden to attend. This presented us with the perfect opportunity to have a drink or two together and hear about their experiences on the Disney Wonder, which they had just returned from cruising on for the first time.

Before I tell you anything more about our meet with Lindy Loo and her hubby, wouldn't you like to hear about our Epcot snackables and see some pictures?

You would?

Excellent - I knew I could count on you!

**For those of you who followed the food porn thread: yes, you are experiencing deja vu - do not attempt to adjust your monitors.**

Knowing that we were going to be heading over to the Grand Floridian from Epcot, we decided to turn left after entering the park from the International Gateway. This path would take us through England and Canada, and past such tasty food booths as Ireland, Poland, and New Zealand.

First stop: Ireland

Here's one last picture of their food booth because I still think it's just the cutest little set-up.
DSC01075.jpg

Food offerings: Potato Leek Soup with a Dubliner Irish Cheese Crisp; Lamb, Bacon, and Cabbage Stew with a Kerrygold Butter Scone; Raspberry Trifle.

Drink offerings: Guiness; O'Mara's Irish Cream; Bunratty Meade Honey Wine.

I ordered the Potato Soup:
DSC01338.jpg

I love me a good potato soup - the cream based kind with a smattering of potato cubes and soggy carrot chunks. A wee bit of pepper for taste and a sprig of parsley for visual effect and I'm in simple soup heaven. But this soup was terrible! Look at how greasy it is. Do you see anything resembling a potato? And let's talk about the cheese "crisp" for a moment. I'm no culinary expert, but in my many years of Oreo cookie-dunking experience I've learned that submerging "crisp" in any sort of liquid results in first degree soggy. Two thumbs down for this choice.

Jason ordered the Lamb Stew:
DSC01337.jpg

I'm not crazy about lamb, but I did try this...after that soup what did I have to lose? It wasn't bad, all things considered but I think it's a bit watery for stew. In my book stew should be thick enough to be eaten with a fork. Maybe there was a flour shortage in the Disney kitchens this fall; maybe the Irish like runny stew; maybe I'm just unreasonably picky. Jay ended up eating most of these two samples, but he's used to that by now. I'll try weird and scary stuff at Epcot but that doesn't mean I'll like it and it certainly doesn't mean that I'm going to eat all of it!

Next stop: Poland

DSC01077.jpg

Food offerings: Beef Cabbage Roll; Kielbasa and Potato Pierogies; Paczki.

Drink offerings: Nalewka Babuni Raspberry Wine; Kurpiowski Honey Wine; Okocim Beer.

We decided to share an order of the Kielbasa and Potato Pierogies with some Okocim Beer.
DSC01339.jpg

Certain aspects of this plate o-food were quite good and others never even touched my fork - I am, in the end, still a rather picky eater. The kielbasa was very tasty but a bit more greasy than I prefer so I didn't eat much of it. I don't like saurkraut so Jay got to enjoy all of it by default. The pierogies were really good but there was sour cream on them...oh my god, I accidentally ate some sour cream! Quick, gimme that beer! I loves me the Okocim Beer; it's good stuff - masks the taste of sour cream really well.

Onward we go...to find ourselves in Canada

DSC01078.jpg

Food offerings: Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup; Maple Glazed Salmon with Arugula and Roasted Corn; Maple Custard topped with Almond Crunch.

Drink offerings: Mission Hill Chardonnay; Mission Hill Reserve Riesling Icewine; Labatt Blue.

Our decision here: An order of the salmon and a sample of the maple custard.
DSC01345.jpg

The salmon was OK - you guessed right if you were thinking that I'm not crazy about salmon. It really just depends on how it's prepared and I thought this was a bit on the dry side. Jay really liked it, however; and said it was very flavorful. The custard was tasty but it was very thick and too sweet for our taste - since I can't eat nuts Jay was forced to destroy the top layer of the dessert before I could even try any of it.

As an aside for those of you who like ice wine, try an ice wine martini sometime - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. We mix equal parts of ice wine and vodka over ice and then drink slowly. Be sure to use a premium vodka when you do this or the drink will suffer!

Where should we stop next? How 'bout: New Zealand

DSC01347.jpg

Food offerings: Bay Scallop Salad and Seafood Medley; Lamb Slider; Kiwi and Custard Roll.

Drink offerings: Fernleaf Sauvignon Blanc; Nobilo Icon Pinot Gris; Monkey Bay Chardonnay; Nobilo Merlot.

Seafood is usually a safe choice and Jason likes lamb so it looks like we're going to try the medley and the slider.
DSC01346.jpg

Where do I start? How about with a question that has no satisfactory answer: Why don't the food booths have food displays any longer so that you can see what you're getting yourself into before you commit to it?

I like seafood but I do not want to sweep the sea clean and then eat it cold in a small plastic cup. I'm not sure what the seafood components were that comprised this dish but when I took a brave forkful and ended up chewing something very springy and squishy I knew Jason was going to have to eat the rest on his own. He offered me the lamb slider. Does anyone else have a problem with this name? In St. Louis, sliders come from White Castle and sober-minded people only eat them at 4AM after drinking three times their body weight in alcohol. Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything. ;)

Call me surprised when I take a bite of the slip-slidin' lamb and find it to be very tasty indeed. This was very tender and moist and well seasoned - I don't know if it was the method of cooking or if it was something else the chef did, but it really didn't taste like lamb, which is probably why I liked it.

We've got time for one last munchie before catching the monorail over to the GF: Wild & Wonderful Florida Shrimp

DSC01348.jpg

Food offerings: Chilled Rock Shrimp with Mango Salsa; Saute'ed Shrimp with Ginger and Lime.

Drink offerings: Blue Fish Riesling; Florida Orange Groves Mango Wine.

I love shrimp so there was no way we could go wrong with this food booth. We decided to order everything on the menu and end the snacking with a bang!
DSC01349.jpg

I preferred the saute'ed shrimp to the shrimp salsa, but that's probably because I'm not much of a salsa eater. But I have to say that the Mango Wine was extraordinary when paired with the shrimp salsa - it was an explosion of taste. The Riesling was acceptable but nothing really stands out about that one.

Snack time is over, at least for today. It's time to hop the monorail and get ourselves over to the Grand Floridian.
DSC01350.jpg

Does anyone else feel compelled to sing the "Monorail Song" when at WDW? Before leaving for Florida, Jay downloaded part of the song to his cell phone and played it while we were waiting in the monorail queue at Epcot - I'm sure this is the reason no one wanted to share a compartment with us.

Sing along for a moment, just for fun!

"There's nothing on earth
Like a genuine,
Bona fide,
Electrified,
Six-car
Monorail!"

"What'd I say?"

"Monorail!"

"What's it called?"

"Monorail!"

"Once again!"

"Monorail!"

Ah, Grimace-free, good times! And for anyone who might be wondering, alcohol had nothing to do with this particular bout of goofiness. We have these kind of Simpsons interludes every day - no alcoholic encouragement is required.

We met Linda and her husband in the lobby of the Grand Floridian and decided that we'd go hang out at the hotel's pool, conveniently located near a bar. I don't remember what anyone else had to drink, but I had two Pina CoLavas in pretty quick succession. There is no picture of this drink, but it was quite tasty and I do have the ingredients: Bacardi Razz Rum blended with Pina Colada mix and raspberry puree.

I can't say enough nice things about Linda and Wayne - just super-nice people and we had such a lovely time chatting with them about their cruise and their time in Florida and the HRC pin-quest.

The fabulous Lindy Loo gave me permission to post a group shot, so here's the four of us just before we had to part company:
DSC01352.jpg

Aren't they cute? I mean it - they're just darling and so much fun. I'm very sad when I think about not cruising this fall because Jay and I won't get to share the experience with people like Linda and Wayne (and Nancy and Chuck and Karen and Neil and Cass and Rob and Paige and Abby and Tina and AFEG and anyone else I should have mentioned but didn't because my memory is starting to get fuzzy tonight- please don't take it personally).

Linda, thank you, thank you, thank you for being so wonderful and helping Jay add to his stash!

Here's a picture of Jay's current HRC pin collection, which now numbers 66 pins:
DSC01890.jpg

His goal is to cover the entire back of the t-shirt with HRC pins and then get it framed and start all over again. :scared1:

And thus ends the current segment. I swear the next installment will include Plankton's Great Escape!! Thanks for reading!! :flower3:

Yay for my good timing again! I did read your food report (that's what lured me over here!) but repeat food porn is never a bad thing! Even with all the stomach problems I've been having lately, that still made me drool.

And I figured you for a fellow bookworm simply based on how you write. You're so talented I thought you were probably an avid reader. I have three full bookshelves in my room and more books in my bed, stacked on the floor, you get the picture. (And Nynaeve, I recognized your user name! I love the WoT books!)

"Batman's a scientist!"
"It's not Batman!"
:rotfl2:

Ahhh perfect timing! I just sat down with a little snack and an iced tea...and there was your post on the 10-20-07 cruise thread....another installment was ready!!!!

Great stuff as usual!! And I think I can speak for all of us going on that cruise....it's a great shame that you won't be joining us :sad1: (Unless one of us KK's wins the lottery!!! :upsidedow )

However, I hope that we can arrange a little pre-cruise meet so that some of us get to meet you two!! :yay:

Lindy Loo Hoo....my oh my...did we get a wee l'il sunburn on Castaway Cay, my dear???

Fantastic reading as usual Brenda! :thumbsup2 We'll take good care of your new British friends this fall. I promise!:yay:

Great stuff again! I know I keep saying this, but it is so weird at how we'll miss y'all so much in October when we have never even met! I know we will have many moments saying, "Brenda and Jay would have loved this!", as if we are family!:lmao:

I wish you and I had known each other a couple of years ago, because I could have picked up HRC pins for Jay in Asia (when we were stationed there)--Tokyo, Bangkok, and Beijing!:headache:

Anyway, thanks for keeping up this trippie. It has been so much fun to read, and if you and Jay decide to take a D.C. trip in the next 4 years, track me down, so we can finally meet face to face!:thumbsup2

/
Sweet people, sweet shirt! And Linda looks like she goes from white to
lobster in 5 seconds flat, just like me. Ouch!

Brenda, I just finished your latest installment but started reading your entire TR about three days ago. You are such an entertaining writer and love the pics that you posted of the F&W festival! The part about your obsessiveness when it comes to keeping your luggage with you whenever possible was something we could all relate to a little. You cracked me up describing your mom's lips disappearing the longer she had to wait on lines for things!!!:rotfl2: Although it sounds like you enjoy your alone time with DH, you must enjoy your mom's company to invite them along on such a great trip to the Beach Club! Hurry back - can't wait for more.:surfweb:

Another great episode.:thumbsup2

Lovely piccie of the 4 of you. Keep buying those lottery tickets Brenda - you just have to come on our October cruise:hug:

Wow. If I'd known his love for HR pins, I just gave away my guitar pin from like 15 years ago. I coulda given it to you guys!

Great report...I'm about to convince DH to read it too!:)

Woohoo! Another book fanatic! Every shelf in our house is filled, and I am trying to figure out where I could place a new one....:rolleyes1

Jay visibly cringes whenever a package arrives from Amazon or I mention that I'm stopping at Borders to "pick something up." He doesn't mind the books, but he is concerned about space. Some day he says we're just going to finish our basement and turn it into a mini-library. But first we must fix our water problems.

You book lovers out there might appreciate this: I also tend to read very fast, and have been known to plow through a "can't put it down" volume in a day or less. Jay refers to me as a "greader" ... a combination of greedy and reader. When this happens he frequently has to remind me to come up for air. :lmao:

That sounds yummy! I will be shopping later . . .

Let me know what you think - I love this particular drink! :thumbsup2

OK, I promised not to bug you about updating the Fofarah because you haven't been feeling the best, but I can barely stand it now. I'd rather hang out here than try to figure out AFEG's smilies. It's a lot easier! Bring it on. Can't wait to see Lindyloohoo and Wayne. BTW...Where was E the whole time? ;)

Aw, Nancy...I'm sorry about the smiley issues. You need a new computer, dearie. And since you posted this I know you've already found the next update and the answer to your question about E, who we did not have a chance to meet.

Well, if you're dorks, then we are, too, because we like all the same things. Somehow, I have always considered us people of taste and intelligence, though, so maybe it's not bad being a dork after all. ;)

Taste and intelligence...yes, that's how Jay and I like to think about it, too! And you know what, the most interesting people I know are the ones who are "dorks." They have wide ranging interests, they can talk about all kinds of different things, and they have great humor. :thumbsup2

Poor Grimace. She does not seem to be a happy person, and I continue to wonder how your step-father was attracted to her.

I'm still chuckling over Jay's comment that "Your Mother is scary."

You hit the nail on the head. Grimmie is not really a very happy person any more. She's had some hard knocks in the last ten years or so - her only sister, who practically raised her, died very unexpectedly, and then a few years later my brother was diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 37 and died less than a year later. Honestly she's never been the same since that happened.

Grief does weird things to people and Grimace hasn't been able to move past his death - she's very bitter about it and that's what you're seeing. She still has moments when the "old" Grimmie shines through, but sadly they are few and far between. So I do what I can, within reason, because pardon the cliche but life goes on. And I try to focus on the humor which is why I poke fun at her so much (otherwise I think I'd start crying and never stop).

Anyway, didn't mean to turn this into a pity party. Just wanted to shed a little light on things without bringing the mood down too much. As always, thanks for taking the time to read. :flower3:

Are you serious? I read GWTW in 5th grade, and everyone thought I was psycho because I actually like Ethan Frome when we had to read it in high school. I was an English major and have never met anyone else who'd read Northanger Abbey, much less enjoyed it!

Brenda rocks! :cheer2:

Woo hoo!! You may be the only other person I've come across who's even heard of Northanger Abbey aside from the professor I had in college who taught our Practical Criticism of Literature course! I had read the book years before but I decided to do my end of term paper on it and she went gaa-gaa because in her words, "It is the most under-appreciated satire penned by Jane Austen."

I totally understand where you're coming from with the Ethan Frome thing - I used to get that, too, from certain kids in school. I loved reading Shakespeare in the 9th grade, but most of my peers responsed like this, "Eeeeeewwwwwww!"

We both rock!! :thumbsup2

I know! They've been MIA for a long time, and I *still* want to know what's in that spoon at V&A's! I hope they're ok, too.

Me too - I think I know what's in the spoon but I need confirmation!!!

BWAHAHAHAHA!! :rotfl2: I picture you reacting with a  and look around all embarrassed. ;) Thanks, Jay! I did giggle.

That's exactly how it went down! Just like Nelson Muntz telling Bart his epidermis was showing. :lmao:

That's funny, I read it when I was about 13, and read it so many times my old copy fell apart. It's turned me into a mild history geek, the Civil war fascinates me, but I get my fix now by watching the History Channel.

My paperback copy of GWTW fell apart, too. One year on my birthday my mom finally gave a hard-bound edition that is now dog-eared and well-worn. I was such a Civil War freak in high school that my graduation gift from my parents was a trip to Gettysburg for the 125th anniversary battle reenactments. Even my friends thought that was a little too weird! ;)

Never read Northanger Abbey, I'll have to try that sometime. Though, I never did like Sense and Sensibility all that much for some reason. Jane Eyre is another favorite too.

Persuasion is probably my least favorite Austen work. And I love Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights - too bad the Bronte sisters couldn't have lived a little longer and produced a little more.

That would be fun!! :cheer2: Maybe go out for lunch, with lots of drinks. I usually have a little chatterbox in tow. :princess:
If there are any he's looking for in particular, we can keep an eye out. :)

Excellent - we will keep all of that in the back of our minds as we get closer to picking a date for Vegas! :thumbsup2

I vote for combining them into one big report!!! Denise

Denise, you do realize just how long a report like that would be from me, right? :lmao:

Yay for my good timing again! I did read your food report (that's what lured me over here!) but repeat food porn is never a bad thing! Even with all the stomach problems I've been having lately, that still made me drool.

I love the food porn, too. And I'm sorry to hear you've been having stomach issues - I hope you feel better soon!

I think I've been a bookworm since before I started school. Blame it on the Grimace, who used to be a book fiend. I remember Saturday afternoons spent in cool dusty libraries...sorry, started waxing nostalgiac there for a moment. Thank you again for the kind words - you make me blush!

"Batman's a scientist!" "It's not Batman!"
:rotfl2:

Obscure reference to the Monorail episode!! One of Jay's favorite quotes from that episode is "I call the big one Bitey."

Hi Cass, thanks for coming over to read and thanks for the compliment! I can't wait to read your TR from the October trip - it's gonna be great!

I'm totally on board with a pre-cruise meet for anyone who can make it. And that way I'll have a chance to give Kira a few hugs and kisses before she gets mobbed on the Magic. :goodvibes

Fantastic reading as usual Brenda! :thumbsup2 We'll take good care of your new British friends this fall. I promise!:yay:

Thanks Nancy, I know you guys are going to have a great time together!

Great stuff again! I know I keep saying this, but it is so weird at how we'll miss y'all so much in October when we have never even met! I know we will have many moments saying, "Brenda and Jay would have loved this!", as if we are family!:lmao:

Thanks Paige - it's funny how chatting on the cruise thread can do that, isn't it?

I wish you and I had known each other a couple of years ago, because I could have picked up HRC pins for Jay in Asia (when we were stationed there)--Tokyo, Bangkok, and Beijing!:headache:

That would have been very cool indeed. Oh well, maybe we'll get around to taking a DL Tokyo trip some day...when we make our third fortune. Of course, we still need to make our first and second fortunes...

Anyway, thanks for keeping up this trippie. It has been so much fun to read, and if you and Jay decide to take a D.C. trip in the next 4 years, track me down, so we can finally meet face to face!:thumbsup2

It's been my pleasure to put this together - it's been fun re-living the trip and sharing it with everyone and reading the different responses. I may just take you up on that DC offer - it's been a few years since we've been there and we definitely need a do-over! :thumbsup2

Sweet people, sweet shirt! And Linda looks like she goes from white to lobster in 5 seconds flat, just like me. Ouch!

Great, great people! :thumbsup2 And I guess Linda's got that English Rose complexion that doesn't take too kindly to the sun. She still looks great, though! :goodvibes

Brenda, I just finished your latest installment but started reading your entire TR about three days ago. You are such an entertaining writer and love the pics that you posted of the F&W festival!

A new reader, woo hoo!!! Welcome aboard - I'm so glad you're enjoying the read. Stay tuned - there will be many more F&W pics to come.

I just can't let the luggage go, I admit it. Drives me crazy when we cruise and the luggage vanishes for hours and you don't see it again until the ship has already left port.

And it's true - I do actually enjoy being with my mom and step-dad...in small concentrated doses in a controlled environment! :lmao: They're not so bad and they do understand the need for Jay and I to get away on our own, which is nice. Thanks again for reading! :flower3:

Another great episode.:thumbsup2

Lovely piccie of the 4 of you. Keep buying those lottery tickets Brenda - you just have to come on our October cruise:hug:

Thank you Karen! It's a great picture isn't it? I just wish we'd asked that anonymous guest to take more than one. Oh well, that's what too many Pina CoLavas will do to a person. And we're still buying the Powerball tickets., so keep your fingers crossed for us!

Wow. If I'd known his love for HR pins, I just gave away my guitar pin from like 15 years ago. I coulda given it to you guys!

Oh, that's too bad (well, for us, not for the person you gave them to! ;) ). It was a thoughtful offer just the same.

Great report...I'm about to convince DH to read it too!:)

Well thank you so much! I hope your DH enjoys it if he does read it - I know it's a "free time" investment since I can't seem to figure out how to keep things brief.

**Thanks again to everyone who's been reading along! I love having an audience and you guys inspire me, really! If I don't get to update this evening it will definitely happen tomorrow night.**

You book lovers out there might appreciate this: I also tend to read very fast, and have been known to plow through a "can't put it down" volume in a day or less. Jay refers to me as a "greader" ... a combination of greedy and reader. When this happens he frequently has to remind me to come up for air. :lmao:

LOL! I've been a "greader" for only two things: The Da Vinci Code and the
Harry Potter books. (Does that count as more than two? LOL)

Thanks for sharing about Grimmie's history.

Heheh. Jay has become Nelson Muntz? (Go ahead. Hear the "ha
ha!") I'm sure he's going to tell you your literacy is showing many, many
times. :teeth:

Persuasion is probably my least favorite Austen work. And I love Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights - too bad the Bronte sisters couldn't have lived a little longer and produced a little more.

Ok, I don't know if you have any books by this author, but if not, you
MUST buy them. Jasper Fforde. I discovered him after he published
The Eyre Affair, his first in his four-book series. He's whacked out,
like Douglas Adams, but I tell you, his books are a fun read. I'm currently
into the second book of his "nursery crimes" series.

If you don't bust a gut laughing at The Eyre Affair, I will buy you a
squishee drink in France.

Another wonderful installment! DH collects shot glasses from all of the Hard Rocks! The original HRC is so small! I really couldn't believe it when we went! I am also a book fiend and have been known to finish a book in a day or two.

LOL! I've been a "greader" for only two things: The Da Vinci Code and theHarry Potter books. (Does that count as more than two? LOL)

I couldn't put The Da Vinci Code down when I started to read it. Jay had to pull it out of my hands and take it away from me because we were going to end up being late for a wedding!

And Harry Potter...I get my book at midnight and read all night until I'm finished and then I go to bed. When I wake up I read it all over again. Can't wait for July 20th!!

Thanks for sharing about Grimmie's history.

Thank you, Lori.

Heheh. Jay has become Nelson untz? (Go ahead. Hear the "ha ha!") I'm sure he's going to tell you your literacy is showing many, many times. :teeth:

Jay does a pretty fair imitation of Nelson. :lmao:

Thanks for the recommendation - I love Douglas Adams so that's a great comparison to make to catch my interest. I'll just have to do a little on-line browsing this afternoon.

Hey there DD! Somehow I had a feeling you were a fellow book lover! :thumbsup2

Does your hubby have a shot glass from the STL HRC? If not, let us know if he'd like one and we'll pick up one up for him to hand off in October.

Hehe. Everynow and them someone recognizes it. Great series, even though the new ones drag on. :D

Does anyone else feel compelled to sing the "Monorail Song" when at WDW? Before leaving for Florida, Jay downloaded part of the song to his cell phone and played it while we were waiting in the monorail queue at Epcot - I'm sure this is the reason no one wanted to share a compartment with us.

Sing along for a moment, just for fun!

"There's nothing on earth
Like a genuine,
Bona fide,
Electrified,
Six-car
Monorail!"

"What'd I say?"

"Monorail!"

"What's it called?"

"Monorail!"

"Once again!"

"Monorail!"

Here's a picture of Jay's current HRC pin collection, which now numbers 66 pins:

His goal is to cover the entire back of the t-shirt with HRC pins and then get it framed and start all over again. :scared1:

:rotfl2: I thought I was the only one! That song is always in my head when we ride the monorail! My hubby always gives me the you're nuts look. And I swear that the guy who does the door closing speech in Spanish, sounds just like 'Troy McClure'.

You book lovers out there might appreciate this: I also tend to read very fast, and have been known to plow through a "can't put it down" volume in a day or less. Jay refers to me as a "greader" ... a combination of greedy and reader. When this happens he frequently has to remind me to come up for air. :lmao:

My paperback copy of GWTW fell apart, too. One year on my birthday my mom finally gave a hard-bound edition that is now dog-eared and well-worn. I was such a Civil War freak in high school that my graduation gift from my parents was a trip to Gettysburg for the 125th anniversary battle reenactments. Even my friends thought that was a little too weird! ;)

Excellent - we will keep all of that in the back of our minds as we get closer to picking a date for Vegas! :thumbsup2

Wow, that is a little weird. Cool though, what a great present. I've always wanted to visit battlesite and museums about the war. And, go to Atlanta to see the GWTW muesum.

I'm the same way! I can easily read a 400 page book in a day. I read Harry Potter 6 in under 24 hours. While taking care of my daughter. Can't wait for 7!
I typically read fantasy and romance novels. My hubby teases me about that, and says I'd be scary smart if I used my powers off reading for good, not evil. :lmao:

And, I know you're been here before, and have family here, but I can give you a list of good places to eat, stay and see if you like. :)

I do!

But you probably guessed that.

The Food & Wine booths are so cute! I don't remember them being that cute last time, but then the last time I was at F&W was 2001, and back then we had to walk uphill both ways in the snow to get a teaspoon of wine.

I can't wait to do some fooding and wining this year!

In vaguely food related questions- have you ever tried acupuncture for Crohns? I just started doing it for my lovely acid reflux, and it seems to actually be helping! My goal is to actually be healthy enough in October to be able to destroy my esophagus all over again with yummy food and wine! :rotfl:

You're right - he does sound like Troy McClure, except since he's speaking Spanish I think he would use one of his aliases - Migel Sanchez!

Civil War battlefields, especially the big ones that have been well preserved are fascinating and awe-inspiring to me. I have not had a chance to explore much in Virginia, but have been to Gettysburg a couple of times and Chickamauga and Murfreesboro. Some day I'm just going to plan a vacation through Maryland and Virgina that's nothing but battlefield tours.

And the GWTW museum...I forgot all about that. :headache:

And, I know you're been here before, and have family here, but I can give you a list of good places to eat, stay and see if you like. :)

I'd like that very much! In the past we've always stayed with Jay's aunt and uncle, who are great. But this time I want to stay somewhere with a great pool, maybe a spa, and lots of good eats within walking distance! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :flower3:

I do!

But you probably guessed that.

Crystal! How are you feeling? Better I hope. Love the monorail snapshot! :lmao:

The food booths were a pleasant visual surprise for us, too. I loved them - they were all so cute. When we had last been in 2004 they were all pretty generic so I guess Epcot has spent some bucks prettying them up since then.

You will love F&W - it's a blast!

I have never have tried accupuncture for the Crohns or the Endo although I've heard it can be very therapuetic. I've been pretty lucky with my medication (so far). I certainly hope you're healthy long before October arrives.

Hi Oybolshoi! I thought I'd drop in to say hello and let you know I'm still enjoying your trip report. Just to refresh your memory, I'm the fellow figure skating fan.

We got back from our Universal Studios vacation on Tuesday. I'm working on a trip report. So far, I have a 12 page Microsoft Word document going.

I'm sorry to hear about your and your mother's losses. I'm sure it's very hard for her, but you're right - life goes on. I lost my mom almost 30 years ago and it still hurts sometimes, but what are you gonna do?

And speaking of my mom - she grew up in the Murfreesboro, TN area. When she married my dad, she moved up here to Minnesota, but 10 of her 13 siblings still lived in Tennessee. We used to visit them every other summer. My dear late Aunt Pearl lived just up the road from Stones River National Battlefield, so I've been there a few times. I can't say that I share your fascination with Civil War history, but I do find it interesting. I'm also an avid reader, but I own very few books. I'm a county library regular. I don't read a lot of fiction, although I do enjoy Jane Austen. I usually roam the biography stacks, and sometimes I venture into some history. I happened upon an interesting book about a year ago. It was about the H.L. Hunley - a submarine used by the Confederacy during the Civil War. That was an interesting read.

I'm not sure when I'll get to read the 7th Harry Potter book. I'll probably have to wait until both of my boys read it. My husband will probably let me read it before he does. I love it when those books come out in the summer. I can lay out in the screen porch and read to my heart's content. Birds chirping, summer breezes rustling the leaves, and the dark arts threatening all that is good and right. Good times.
