ok. we just talked about DS and I going to disney for 10 full days. that would be 11 nights i think. so i started thinking. it is just DS and I. DS is will be 7 when we go. we are going in may! staying at the All Star Sports (DS will NOT change his mind!) airfare is hovering around $200- $210 per person round trip. not including fees and such. will buy an annual pass. no water parks. will do disney quest but i already have those tickets. (thank you Mary at mousesavers for getting us those deals with ticketmania!) do you think $3000 will cover everything. airfare, hotel, passes, food, etc? DS has his own spending money. he has been saving since july and has over $100 for play money.

I think 3K should be plenty for the trip but you didn't say when you are planning on going. Even if you roundup for airfare at 500 with taxes/fees, 2 APs (1 adult, 1 child) 727.40, food (at $100/day) $1000 would only be $2227.40. That leaves a over $700 for your hotel and if you got an AP discount at the ASSp, that should be fine.

Plus I said $100/day for food but I never spend that and we are family of 4. I have no idea what you might spend though!

I think if you plan for spending 3K you should be fine.

Just my .02!

We too are going in May. The 3 of us got a great deal at the contemporary and AKL fo 10 days total. Our budget is $4000. That includes airfare , rental mini van, 7 days park hopper, Universal studio tix, and food. We are staying at much pricier hotels, have rented a car, and are going to Universal. You should be more than fine.
BTW, I think a trip to Disney with just your child sounds like a great idea! Makes me wanna do it...but then my daughter is 4 and would kill me long before my 10 days were up! maybe when she is 7!

Wow, that's a pretty good budget. We spent $5000 for nine days at the YC and ASMO and didnt' have a rental car. We got cheap airfare on jetblue, but spent way too much on food and souveniors. I hope to go back in October and stay as long, but spend way less. I think this one might be just a trip withjust DS and I, but he is four too, and I'm thinking I will be burnt out by day five with just him and I. Maybe I can get my sis to come along to help...hmmmm LOL.

I've been when Dd was 4 and 7.
At 4 everything was magical for her! But she tired easyly and got cranky.

I think 5 is the best, they still believe in MAGIC!! Everything is Wonderful. And they are bundles of energy.

At 6 they are emotional basket cases Up one minute crying the next.

At 7 the magic had receded and it was more about wanting to know exactly "how" did they do that.

You should be able to do it on $3000. Did you check AirTran? DH and I flew them, out of Philly, in November for $353 for two roundtrip nonstop direct flights. The discount codes should be coming out next week. I got $55 a night at ASMu. Food, I budget $100 a day, but we never use it all. We ate either at the food court or counter restaurants. Good luck and have a great time!:D

thanks guys for the advice. airfare jumped today to $300/person. so i am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that it comes down!

chloesmom~ my DS and i went in 2001 for 7 days. DS was 5 at the time. the only thing that was bad was the fact that i have no one to talk to. adult conversations are a good thing. we did ok. my boyfriend has no interest in disney so he wont go. BUT he is more than happy to pay for us to go! LOL :bounce:

I know the moderates used to rent small refrigerators, don't know is AS does but having breakfast and snacks in the room is another way to save money.

On our family trip we didn't fly- but we are 5 people where as you are just 2 on this trip.
We were there 10 days- spent 4 days at WDW parks (5 day park hoppers though) and 3 days at IOS/US- and did other things offsite as well. We did not count pennies when eating out/etc and paid $129 per night offsite. (which should be more than AS costs!)

We did that entire trip including food, gas, souvenirs, hotel, parks, stuff we did offsite, etc for right at $3500.

And that was before I knew all the "tips" from this board!

The airfare is the variable at this point- but I really think $3000 should be plenty. Especially using tips, discounts, etc from this board. I have already been doing figuring on our upcoming family trip (again, that's 5 people in this family) -driving though- for 9 days and it's coming around $3500 again. But we're doing more character breakfasts (food cost going up since NOT staying in a "2-3br house" offsite this time), buying 7 day park hoppers even if we don't use all the days (plus the 1 day we have leftover from before)/etc.

I really think unless your airfare turns out extremely costly, you should do fine with that budget. :)
