10 Day Trip to Italy - Budget

My parents spent 10k for Italy a few years ago, they stayed at least 10 days but dont remember. I wasnt impressed with whatever hotel they stayed at but was expensive. I like to splurge where they try to save money any way they can.

I agree. No need to splurge on the hotel as I don't plan to be in it for very long. I'd rather go nuts on food and snacks.

I'm more willing to spend money on food and activities than I am on the hotel. I'm hotel ratings obsessed so I will spend hours trying to find the most location convenient and clean place for the best price I can. I think I can find good places for under $200 per night (I'm very open to bed and breakfast type places). Those tend to be a little cheaper.

If you are just viewing the hotel as a place to sleep an not needing to have a nice "feel" in it--also look at low cost chain hotels. NO atmosphere, but in off season (October counts) you can get some great prices.

We paid 55 euro a night for the Holiday Inn Express in Milan for four people with breakfast (which is a little more than we pay in BCN). It was by the airport--not right in the city, but if you are going to the city for the day from say, Verona or Venice and then just need to shower and sleep before going on to the next place, it is not bad or pricey to get to.

In Venice we also stayed out of the main city (but right on the bus line) and I think we paid 70 for a room for four. It was a perfectly clean and safe place and BONUS we did not flood like everywhere in town did (a real risk in October). We stayed here:

The B&Bs can be fun--just be aware that often in Italy breakfast means coffee, and bathrooms are shared (if you are getting a really low rate this is likely). We kind of think that is fun once in a while, but not everyone does so you should be aware of what you are getting into ;)

Yup I've been noticing that double rooms can be had for about 60 to 80 euros per night but the bathrooms are shared. If you're willing to go up to 100 to 120 you can get one with a private bath (I'd probably go for this option myself).
