We have been sooooo looking forward to our August 5 through 10 vacation at Wilderness Lodge! (looking forward as everyone who goes to Disney World obviously does;)) but I've been checking the 10 day forcast and it looks worse and worse! The first day looks ok but all downhill from there! What are others Dis'ers experiences with the forcasts? Are they usually all wrong? (lol-hoping!:cool1:) One of the women going with me is deathly afraid of thunderstorms. Oh NO!

It's Florida. It rains almost everyday during the summer. It usually doesn't last long but afternoon showers will be common. It will at least cool it down a few degrees for a while so think positive. Your trip will be fine, no worries.

Yes, Florida in the summer almost guarantees that you'll see a thunderstorm every afternoon. (Maybe poor planning on the part of the storm-phobic?? :confused3 )

The good news is that they generally pass by very quickly. We pack dollar-store ponchos in our bag every day just in case we get caught out. But for the most part, you can just duck into a store or an indoor attraction and ride it out.

I would say don't panic / worry on 2 fronts

We've seen the same forcast before our trips then gotten to Disney and hardly seen any rain. We've come out of a ride and seen evidence that it rained but we missed it completely on the ride.

Alternatively if it does rain often that will empty out the park if it's a good heavy rain. We like rain - everyone else goes home and the park is ours! :cool1:

Have fun - a rainy day at Disney is still way better than a sunny day at home!

We've been in a long drought here and I'm looking forward to experiencing this rain. Not gully washers but just a nice thunderstorm or two sounds really nice right now.

Those Florida storms don't usually last long. We only had really bad rain one day in several trips so I wouldn't worry too much.

Dont' worry if it rains. There is plenty to do and the attractions and rides are mostly indoor. Bring ponchos from home and have fun. By the way if you wear tennis shoes, newspaper works good to absorb the water.

:lmao:It rains every day in the summer in Orlando in one area or another. I look forward to the daily thunderstorm coming through, as it will cool things down for a half hour or so. We just bring cheap ponchos and slip them on if it starts. Once, last year, it DID rain for hours, storming on and off. DS and I rode Space Mountain over and over. We just sloshed through the rain and had a great time:goodvibes We'll be there in less than 2 weeks and I'm sure we will have rain in our forecast as well.

Honestly, that forecast is a pretty typical summer Florida forecast. It most likely will rain in the afternoon each day, prob. t-storm, but it will clear out and you will be just fine. Have ponchos with you and wear shoes that can get wet and dry quickly. The good news is that the storms often clear out the parks some. We just keep going enjoying the shorter lines. Have a great trip!

What you're seeing is the standard July-September forecast for Central FL. Expect rain and/or thunderstorms every day. Usually for a brief period in the late afternoon.

They're really not a big deal, you just put on a poncho and keep going, or take the opportunity to grab a snack in a counter service place or explore a shop for a little while.

I hope it isn't too bad too. We will see you there. We will be at the WL too from the 2nd to the 10th :)

I can guarantee it will rain and thunderstorm every day you're there.

But they'll only last 20-30 minutes. Just hunker down in an indoor ride/pavilion and watch the crowds scatter

I swear the extended forecast just defaults to rain every day. It will most likely change as time goes on. The same thing happened for our trip to DW a few weeks ago. The 10-day forecast showed rain (not just a shower -- lots of rain) on the 10-day forecast but it changed every day as we got closer to the actual date. I noticed that the first 2 or 3 days seemed to always have a more accurate forecast and the last 7 days always said rain. As it turned out, we had a brief shower (about 10 minutes) but lots of thunder and lightning for 3 hours one evening and then light rain for 3 hours another night (which made for a very empty MK during Wishes!!). No typical afternoon showers and certainly not the rain that was forecast for *every* day in the 10-day forecast.

On another note, when we were at DW in May 09, it *did* rain every single day...for hours and hours and hours on end (we got over a foot of rain over that 7-day trip). Ironically, that 10-day forecast showed perfect weather with little or no rain. Anyway, we still had a great time. We bought the Disney ponchos and off we went. The parks were really empty and we were able to walk on many rides. A lot of the table service restaurants were able to accommodate walk-ins with relatively short waits because people didn't feel like going out in the rain to get to their ADR's so there were many cancellations. We had no lightning at all that week, so for the most part, all the attractions (rides *and* shows) operated normally. Prior to that trip, I always worried about having a lot of rain on a Disney trip. Now I don't worry about it at all. I make sure to pack the Disney ponchos, make sure everyone has at least 2 pair of good walking shoes, plenty of socks for everyone, and off we go!

We get the same thing here in Mobile, and our weather people have actually stated, on air, that they do this.

Now, they don't do it to be lazy or anything, it's just there's always a good chance for afternoon thunderstorms in Florida and the Gulf Coast (at least this part of the Gulf Coast) every day due to typical summer weather patterns. You will rarely see even a 3 day forecast without at least a 20-40% chance each day.

It's just the way it is and nothing to worry about.

Also, when they say scattered or isolated, they really mean that. Under scattered storm conditions, it can easily be raining at Epcot but sunny at MK. Isolated is even more localized where it could be raining at DHS and you can sit and watch it go by from Epcot and stay perfectly dry.

It showed rain every day we were there in the forecast We only saw rain on 3 days (out of 9) and only one of those was bad enough to really interrupt our day. Of course that was the one day I didn't pack the ponchos.

We leave tomorrow afternoon for 7 nights / 8 days and I am waving :wizard: my magic wand, so there won't be any rain. Not to worry we will be at WDW and that's much better then being at home. Everyone enjoy. :cool1:

FYI to DISers coming down around the end of next week - if you start hearing about Disturbance 91L which might become Tropical Storm Emily, and which then might further strengthen to become Hurricane Emily DON'T PANIC. It's way too soon to guess what it will do, but so far models show it turning away from Florida :thumbsup2

Thanks for the great info Seahunt. We drive down Friday for a week's stay. I was on some websites reading about Invest 91L and getting a little nervous. It's formation seems to be unusual and of great interest to the weather bloggers. I'm ok with the daily thunderstorms that are routine in Orlando, and I know the locals need the rain. I'd just hate to have whole days washed out. Regardless, we'll enjoy the magic!

I plan to take water shoes, ponchos, plastic bag, and a small towel or a few paper towels every day. At the first sign of rain, put the water shoes and ponchos on, and put the dry shoes and sox in the plastic bag. When the rain stops, put the wet stuff into the plastic bag and put the dry shoes on again. Don't want to spend the day in wet shoes and sox - icky. (Don't tell me I haven't been overplanning this trip!)
