10/4/08-Buccaneers Take the West! Cruiser List in Post #1

wow Lois, you can't get much more perfect than that. She is gorgeous :)

Hey, I have a question for you guys. Would you ever consider taking someone on your cruise that's not related? I have a kid at my school that my family has semi-adopted, and i'm toying with the idea of taking him on our cruise. He'll be at the high school next year, so it's not like my middle schoolers would think I was playing favorites.

I've called to get a price, but just don't know if I would be opening up a big can of worms. He would never be able to go on his own b/c his mom and dad (who just got divorced) don't have the money at all. We have two rooms, so he could share with my oldest three and Matthew can sleep in our room.

He would be playing football at that time, so I don't know if he could even do it or not. Anyway, just wondering if you have any thoughts.

Lori P. :)

Thanks every for all the positive comments on my new grand daughter. I am still in awe. Can't wait to see her again.

If I had the money I would take a child that was not related. Be aware that there is a permission form that must be completed and signed by both parents granting you permission to take the child on the cruise. It also must be noterized. You must complete this form for even Grand Children. Done it three times. Lois

If he gets along well with your kids, and meshes well with your family, then yes I would invite him. If your kids don't get along with him, then no. I say that because 1) it is your big family vacation, and them being happy is the most important thing. and 2) many of us grew up never having big, expensive vacations, and it was fine. My husband or I have neither one ever cruised before. He'll be an adult in a few years, and if a cruise is a priority, he'll go then. But (Devil's advocate) since he would be a 3rd person in the room, the expense shouldn't be that much, and could be a much needed escape for him.

Hi everyone,

Nate's 1st birthday was so much fun. His little face was priceless when he saw his party decorations!

Lois,

Congratulations on the new Grandbaby! They're called "Grand" for a reason! She's beautiful!:cloud9:

Lori,

As a former football mom, I can tell you that the boy you're thinking about taking on the cruise will suffer from a team standpoint. I would talk to his coach first before saying anything to him. If our boys missed even one practice, they were off the field for the next 2 games. Now that might not sound like much but it could alter his playing position for the rest of the season.

Also, they say you never know someone until you've lived with them. But living with them in a small stateroom can really be tough. And consider the complications if you're in Grand Cayman and this child gets hurt.

Just wanting to bring some potential situations to light. That's a hugh responsibility.

Haven't posted in a while and found us on page 3:eek: .

Lois - Congrats. Your granddaughter is beautiful :) .

Lori - I would consider taking a friend if I knew they would fit in well with the family and not cause any problems between siblings.

We have school holidays at the moment. Kids go back next week. We had a very busy Saturday. Went to a funeral for an 18 year old, we know his family. Then late afternoon my DS fell off a playground & broke his arm :scared1: . We had to drive 1/2 hour to an emergency clinic. They took one look & said he'd have to go to the hospital so an orthopaedic surgeon could set it. But they did the x-rays & did a referal. They also ordered an ambulance so we could go through the 'backdoor' and not have to go through reception. Arrived at the hospital around 6.30pm. Got home at 1am. They had 4 boys with broken arms in. Luckily DS was 2nd in the queue to be inally got it set around 10pm.

We then had to go back in on Sunday morning so they could check it wasn't too tight. They had to cut a piece out of the top as it was hurting him.

He was a very quiet boy on Sunday & yesterday morning. But he is much better now.

Have a good day everyone :goodvibes

Alright, I just ran across this info on another thread. Anyone visiting Kennedy Space Center before or after the cruise? We are planning to go on the 11th when we get off the boat. Anyway, apparently you can call your local Congressman and get free tickets. That is $140 savings for my family! :cool1:

Here's what just showed up on the web about fuel surcharges. Looks like we're in the clear!

"Due to rising fuel prices, Disney Cruise Line is implementing a fuel surcharge. The surcharge is $8 per person, per day for the first two guests in a stateroom, and $3 per day for all others. It is effective for new bookings only made on or after May 28, 2008. Additionally, the surcharge will be capped at $112 each for the first and second guests in a stateroom and $42 each for all other guests in the stateroom."

Yes we do not need to pay for this cruise but it means that if we were planning on booking a new cruise while on board we will get hit with it. For some of us it may well make a difference of cruising.

Lois: Haley is beautiful! I have a granddaughter, Haley, too.

Denise: Did you have more fun at Nate's 1st birthday party than Nate???!!! Grandchildren's birthdays are precious. I was in WV earlier this month for Anna's 3rd birthday; going back to WV next weekend for Paul's 6th; and back to WV the end of May for his graduation.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Jan

We paid with DVC points for this cruise, wonder how they will impose this extra charge on passengers paying with points in the future. Do you think they will raise the booking fees.:scared1: This cruise is already costing me $95, it wasn't that long ago that the fee was only $50.

Kari would please keep us posted on this. It's been awhile since we toured the Space Center, Ashley was 3 or 4 I think. I'd like to see it again.

Thanks for asking, Jan and yes, we had a wonderful time celebrating Nate's 1st birthday. Grandchildren truly are grand!!

I'm very sad tonight and am trying to type without totally breaking down but I would like to ask you all for your prayers. My step-mother, Jeanette, was diagnosed today with cancer of the stomach lining. They have told her that it's advanced but I know that God is all powerful and performs miracles every day. I posted this on the Community Board as well. We thank each and every one of you and God bless you and your family too.

I am so sorry that you and your family are faced with this disease. Of course have both mine and Janet's prayers. I believe in the power of prayer so in time we will see God's plan. Please keep us posted on how she is doing over time. Lois

Denise, I know that is really hard news to hear. I lost a brother to cancer when I was in high school. My sister was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, and told average survival rate is 6 months-2 years. It will be 2 years this August, and she is still going strong. She has good and bad days, but she attends sports events, home schools, etc. We feel we owe her continued health to the power of prayer. I will pray for your mother-in-law's health, and for peace for your family.

Found us towards the bottom of PAGE TWO.

I hope this finds everyone doing well and any health concerns being resolved. Lois

Denise, I will certainly keep your step-mom in my thoughts and prayers.
