10/4/08-Buccaneers Take the West! Cruiser List in Post #1

Still don't know if we're going(on the cruise) but had to chime in on the Scouting stuff. We just had my son's Court of Honor ceremony on March 15:cool1: 5 other boys in his troop also were made Eagles that day. We have a very strong troop(over 60 boys)...lots of parents are committee members and troop leaders. He is our only boy so, sadly, we are pretty much done with scouting. He is looking into a Venturing troop, if he can swing it with work, EMT training and his volunteering at the local fire station.
We found scouting to very helpful to my shy, introverted son. Many times, especially when he hit 16 or so, he wanted to give up but with some gentle and not so gentle prodding;) , he stuck with it and he is now so happy that he did. Good luck to all of you and your future Eagles!!

Kerri

Kerri - Scouting becomes harder and harder to keep up with as they get older and in my opinion anyway, that is when it becomes even more important in their lives. Good for him (and you deserve a huge pat on the back as well). Ben (my oldest) got his Eagle before he got his drivers license (that was part of the "deal"), my middle son was a Rotary exchange student and lost the year he should have done his project and he just dragged his heels when he returned and I believe that he now regrets it. Drew was 6 months shy of 18 when he had his board of review but he did it and when all is said and done, that is what counts.

Take care all and have a great weekend. Sunny here in the frozen tundra (yeah, still got snow) but if this keeps up for another few weeks we just might thaw out!

Its 82 here today! I sent the kids to school in shorts, and have all the windows open! Of course, this summer when you have 82... we'll be at 100 degrees and 90% humidity. Kinda like Florida, but without the rain! :scared: :furious:

The big excitement here in the DC Metro area is the Cherry Blossoms! The tourist (Bless em!) have been filling the streets and the transit system for a chance to get a peek at the famous trees. Of course the forsythia and daffodils are out as well. The weather is still in flux and the temp. is supposed to rocket from the 70s this afternoon to the 30s tonight! I am so glad spring has arrived!
If you care, here is a Live Blossom Cam. Exciting, no? :flower: :daisy: :flower1: OK maybe not.

Thanks for the welcome!!!! This cruise is for my SIL's "50th" birthday & my husband's "49th". I hope she will enjoy it, this is her 1st disney cruise. She's never even been to disney world, but she does like to cruise. We won't have any children with us. My son is 23, but loves disney. My niece is 29, and this will be her first cruise.
I've been working on our door magnets and I was in Florida last weekend so I bought everyone disney t-shirts to wear for the welcome aboard photo. Pam

Welcome MPJCH!!!!!! :cheer2: I've added your name to post #1.

Lois, I know exactly the stress you are talking about when the in-laws visit. When Dave's parents would stop by for their semi-annual visit to and from Florida, my stress levels were over the top. Unforunately :cool1: , there were times when I had to work OT and didn't see them much in the evenings. When we visit our WV kids, we stay at a hotel to give the kids their space and for us to have some alone time, too. My d-i-l and I are very close, and I don't want her to stress out with our visits.

It was a balmy 40 degrees in mid-Michigan yesterday. Not yet shorts weather.

Have a great weekend.

Jan

Welcome Pam! Glad to have you onboard!

Just wanted to pop in and bump us back up. Heading over to do a volunteer project with my Beta Club students this morning.

Have a great weekend,
Lori P. :)

Good day to all. The in-law's left this morning to go on with the rest of their trip. I only had to spend less then 24 hours with them this trip. So now it is back to the normal stress of work and kids. We plan to go into the office and try to get caught up. That seems to be a never ending battle. I still hope it will get better in the future.

I made my WDW dining ressies this week. Makes the trip seem so much closer. Also paid OFF both the cruises. I had the money so I wanted to do that just in case DCL decided to get on the fuel charge band wagon. Just need to save another 4,000 to have the vacation paid in full. That would be everything. Nothing going on credit. However I am forced to remember that I live in the real world and something will most likely get in the way but I have enough paid off that we should be able to go on this vacation regardless. I have been doing the happy dance since yesterday.

Have a wonderful weekend!!! Lois

:welcome: Pam - great to have you joining us. Great group of people here and we are going to have lots of fun on this trip.

Way to go Lois! I am not there yet and do not seem to be making too much headway either. I guess I need to make some reservations myself though for the week before we cruise.

Well, just thought I would let all of you "warm" folks know that it is a balmy eighteen (yeah 18) degrees here at 10:22am according to my PC. But, Mr. Sunshine is out in full force so maybe we can warm up a tad and get rid of some more of that snow (and ice in my driveway).

Enjoy your day - the laundry hamper seems to be calling my name (maybe I should change my name??).

Welcome Pam :goodvibes .

That is sooo funny. Maybe I should try that with mine too :rotfl: .

Lois - congrats on paying for the cruise. We've had our whole trip paid off for a while to make the most of the very good exchange rate. Now just need to save for spending money.

Tania

:rotfl2: I tried that... amazing how adaptable those stupid hampers are! :laundy:

We can run but we can't hide! If I could calculate how many loads I had to do before we cruise it wouldn't be such a bad thing maybe.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend - much warmer (well, 28 anyway) this morning but it looks pretty grey out the window. We are meeting JanDave at noon for lunch - it will be good to see our cruising buddies as it has been since last fall when we saw them.

Have lost track of everyone again. Just took over an hour to catch up. DS13 has been in hosp for last 2 weeks, not a fun spring break for him. We ar e3better now!!!!!

We would love to do the fish extender also. What info do you need??

We are off to church. hoping for no rain today.

Have a great day all
Kim

They are calling for thunder storms here in the midwest. They are using that one word "Tornado". They sound like we will be under a warning sometime in the next 24 hours. I would rather deal a hurricane any day of the week. They can be tracked and you have time to get out of the path. With us we have storms all the time that can cause a Tornado but you don't know about it until right before it hits. We would spend all spring away from home if we attepted to avoid them.

I am off to the office to continue to work on getting stuff done so I can keep my job.

Hope everyone is having a good week-end. Lois

Kim,
I am very happy he is doing better. Must have been very scary for you. Well, I got to run. Lois

And then there were 3!.....

Hi everyone,

I'm back from seeing my grandson. That always picks me up. I have to go back to Shreveport next Thursday and take him to his checkup on Friday morning. He's been so sick for most of his 11 months on this earth but thank you God, it's been ear aches, stomache virus, daycare stuff. Nothing critical.

That means, though, that mommy and daddy can't cruise with us. Tried to get mommy to let me take Nate with us but she wasn't having it! Wonder why?

So, it's down to me, Steve, and Eric who I figure will drop out too since none of the other kids are going. We offered for him to take his current girlfriend but since this is number three since I made the ressies last Oct, she'll have to pay for her part.

I'd like to say hello to our newbies! If you want to join in the fish extender (FE) activities, just PM me and let me know whether you'll be bringing something to distribute or if you would just like to receive gifts.

I'm in charge of keeping a list and assigning delivery days for everyone.

Have a good day, all!

Denise, I am so sorry the family is unable to cruise with you. It is so hard to get everyone together. I wish I could talk my Dad into coming along but he just won't have it. So I guess I will need to go visit him.

Aren't grandkids the best thing since cotton candy. I just love mine and I have a new one who should be here sometime before the middle of May. They say it is a little girl. We are already planning a Disney Vacation with her sometime around age five. We took her older brother (14) and sister (11) on 3 DCL cruises. The least we can do is take her on one.

Well got to get busy, Lois

If I could calculate how many loads I had to do before we cruise it wouldn't be such a bad thing maybe.

I did the rough math... 5 loads a week by 25 weeks = 125 loads! That's a lot of :laundy:

He's been so sick for most of his 11 months on this earth but thank you God, it's been ear aches, stomache virus, daycare stuff. Nothing critical.

Avery was the same way. She had a bad virus at 3 weeks old (105 temps) and was in the hospital for 3 days. 17 ear infections before tubes at 10 months. RSV that caused asthma - which has caused pneumonia 4 times. Hospitalized in Jan for strep throat and dehydration. Poor little Nate may be like her... can't get sick without taking it to the extremes! But each year gets a little better... so there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Yeah, I hope Nate will outgrow it soon. My son, his daddy, was sickly too and had terrible hayfever as a teen.

Kim,

I'm glad your son is doing better. Poor guy, the school system needs to give him another week since he didn't get to enjoy the last one!:thumbsup2

Yeah Lois, this is my first grandbaby and I really enjoy him so much. As I'm sure it is with you, there's nothing Nana wouldn't do for him. I was so hoping he'd get to cruise this time with us. But, this isn't the last cruise Disney is gonna make!

He is much better. He is actually ready to go back to school. He is on th ebaseball team and has missed a few games and has one tomorrow night, so he is ready tro get back.

The other 2 boys wish it was longer, but they are just out of luck. We are now in the spring sports saeson. All 3 playing sports in different places and 2 have practice same nights and times. should be fun for the next 8 weeks. Will really be ready for vacation by time it is over.
Kim
