10/24/2009 Bash On the Boat (I'm with BOB) - Thread #7

Luckily, we purchased before May 24, 2008 for the repo. We won't have more than 1 each going out, but will most likely have 4 or 5 total coming back.

Check out AirTran. They are only $10 more if you check the bag online ($20 if you do it at the airport).

On our trip back home from Orlando the other day, I caught a news story that American was going to charge $15 for the FIRST BAG! :furious: I believe the second bag was $40 and the third was $100. (No joking)

They should just raise fares already instead of trying to hide it in a fuel "surcharge". It also makes passengers carry much more into the cabin to fit in the overhead bin. More bags through security, leading to longer lines and wait times. OK, off my soapbox now.

At those rates for bags, it may be cheaper to drive...even if gas Is $4.00/gal.

You're right...:furious:

Thanks everyone! I'll let her know what you guys said and maybe they should just consider staying on the ship.

The Wonder cruise that we just got off was our first trip to Nassau. We did talk to a few people that decided to stay on the ship. However, we took the $39 tour to Atlantis. We toured the aquarium and the "ruins" If felt it was worthwhile. I was not at all impressed with the city itself. So much poverty. :sad2: It was night and day compared the Paradise Island (Atlantis). Our tour met at 11:15 am and we got to Atlantis just after noon. The guided tour lasted about an hour. Then you were free to wander on your own. Buses returned to the ship every half hour up until 4:30 PM.

If we do the Nassau cruise again, we might stay on the ship. But for our first trip, I'm glad we visited Atlantis.

Chris Darling,
I have notified my super cop of your dilema and he is working on it. He said that he and his friend did a trip similar to your requests and they did not see much, just drove a lot. You may have to cut somethings out. He is going to work on 3 plans for you.

Thanks! I take a crazy amount of pictures. I think I totaled 1033 still pictures this trip. :bitelip:

You and I will get along great. Mike (Underdog) complains to me all the time about the number of pics I take. :thumbsup2 I am constantly holding things up to take a pic. :hyper:

He sure is happy when we get back though. :)

Chris,

In looking at the responses, what about a drive directly to Flagstaff once you land? It is 483 miles on mapquest (7 hours if you drive the speed limit, but no one does). Do the canyon the next day. Then drive to LV via the Hoover Dam the next day. Spend 2 nights there.

Then head from LV to SF, 1 day of driving.
8/6: Land in LA, drive to Flagstaff
8/7: Grand Canyon
8/8: Drive to LV via Hover Dam
8/9: Las Vegas
8/10: Drive to SF
8/11: Muir Woods, SF City
8/12: More of SF if needed
8/13: Drive to San Luis Obispo via Monterey
8/14: Drive to Anaheim

We went to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon last summer. Closer to LV and we were able to go to Zion and Bryce all in 1 1/2 days. It was beautiful!:woohoo:

We liked those parks as much as Yosemite and better than LV.

I put our pictures up on Photobucket as suggested. Here is the link. There are 210 pictures! :faint: (and those are only a fraction.)

Matthew,

Awesome pics. And yes, I looked at all 213 of them. Thanks for posting the link.

Question for you, did you guys arrive real early at port or was it that quiet on your cruise? Plus, when you got off, there was very little luggage (unless you got off later).

How was the Atlantis? Did you just take a cab over and tour on your own?

That is one heck of a storm brewing after you left CC. Did the seas get rough?

How was the Toy Story show?

Can I ask what type of camera you have? All your pics turned out great. I can never get the shows to turn out or the atrium.

Yeah, we got into this discussion when that came out. I said I think AA is looking to move to a comuter airline servicing only Business people.

I'll be surprised if the first bag sticks.

I agree with you that they should just increase the fares and not charge for the first bag.

Now that everything is digital, it is so easy to take so many pics.

Remember the days of having to pack all that film?

What you haven't made your hotel reservations yet! :faint: I bet you haven't even started packing yet either...;)

Nope, no packing. You should know by now we don't really pack until the last minute. Although, once Suz' friend leaves on the 16th, we will put the suitcases in the guest room and start putting some stuff in. Since DS will know as of Friday, we don't have to hide everything like usual.

As for the hotel, you should see the spreadsheet I just whipped together today to compile the ratings on each property. There are certain criteria that Chris and I have established, now I have ranked them based on ratings, and tonight I will get pricing on about 8 different properties.

We will have it booked by the end of the weekend - I hope. :rolleyes1

Yeah, if time is tight, we might just hit the nort rim while up in UT. Those parks do look really nice. Suz' parents went up to both of them.

We head to LV to see Suz' frient (the one who is coming here Friday). She is like a second mom to her (actually, more of a mom than the original one). We usually stay near or on the stirp (last couple of times off it at a suite hotel) and then do trips out and around LV.

We've done hiking in Red Rocks and Valley of Fire, boat tour on Lake Mead, rafting from the foot of the dam down into AZ, toured the dam, Mt. Charleston. We always look for something outdoors to do.

We are not gamblers, so that is not of interest to us. We will try to get to a show every now and then. It is more of a relaxing type of vacation for us - just hang by the pool or go out of town.
