We are under an "Excessive Heat Warning" for the next few days with temps predicted at 96* or above, with high humidity, for Sat-Sun-Mon.

Time to get ready for work, see ya later........:wave2:
Yes, it is going to be very humid for the next several days. Funny enough, I'm sitting here in my office with a blanket over my lap and wearing a sweater because it is FRIGID in here!

It's been pretty crazy around here this week, due to the big GM announcement. If any of you saw the news, the GM plant in our town is closing in 2010 which has the whole town in a panic. The GM plant here makes the big SUV's (Yukons and another model) and trucks.

Pete and I are fortunate to have jobs that aren't directly affected (whew!) but the local economy and housing prices are going to go into a tailspin for a while.

Ok, enough depressing stuff....how's everyone else?
Yes, I heard that on NPR yesterday. I'm glad you don't have jobs with GM.

For those of you who have been to WDW in July..........

Do the parks ever close due to full capacity?
I have been, but didn't experience them closing because they were full.

Do you think the crowds will be a little less full because of gas prices (people staying home)?
No.
I think it'll be the same as usual.
We'll be there beginning August 13th but can imagine having a July trip in our future due to school schedules.

Ok, so my inlaws are headed here for a week. I've asked what they want to see and since they've been here already years ago, their requests were on a short list. They want to go to 8th & I to see the USMC silent drill team (tickets have been sold out for months-oh well, we'll go to the Iwo Memorial and see them perform there-no tix required), and they want to ride the Metro (we were raised in a REALLY small town). That's it.

Anyone have any suggestions for me? I am also going to take them to the Holocaust Museum bec/ Emily has been begging me to go there, so my MIL asked me to wait for her to accompany us.

My MIL is a retired school teacher (middle school math) and my FIL drives a truck, used to be the owner of a shrimp wholesale (the shrimp boats would drive right up to his shop and unload--we always had fresh seafood when he owned it)....

Ok, so hit me with some suggestions. Matthew I know you're close to DC. Anything?

I have been discouraged by many about going in July, but we just couldn't avoid it. Oh well, we will work the system...go early, leave early, swim at the hotel/rest, go back late and stay late. I am lucky that my kids are a little older and have no problems staying up late and going "commando" on the parks. And this time we'll be there for 2 weeks, so we won't have to go "commando." no comments, boys.....

Have you tried TourGuide Mike?
If not, I'd recommend it.

Oh, and be sure to wear underwear. LOL

Howdy peeps!:goodvibes

Hope everyone is having a good day.

I'm back from the gym - phew - it was real hard work. Hope I dont ache tomorrow - I have 3 hours of gardening at Ellis school in the morning, followed by 3 hours of gardening at his Beaver hut in the afternoon. I wish that they'd picked different days for their "ground force day" (or that Neil wasnt working so he could do it!;) )

Oh well, it'll all burn calories.

Just tried my first slim fast meal bar:thumbsup2 - nice! - forest fruits - yummo!

Something I thought was funny ...

my parents left last Thursday for a trip to Germany so I guess they've been there for about a week now - yesterday we received some postcards from them. Already!

Sheesh ... it takes weeks for postcards sent from WDW to get delivered to people here in the US! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Are they also known to break into cabins? :scared1:
What? Grimmie does Deutchland? I don't think they have too many casinos B. That's probably why you got a postcard so early in the trip. Poor lady is bored. :rotfl2:

The bad news for Bendy and her inheritances is their are one armed bandits in all the boozers in Germany.....Bendy love the Germans do EVERYTHING anally well, from posting letters to stealing sun beds......:rolleyes1

Karen, have you used TGM in the past? I have the passporter's deluxe and I have researched a lot on the DIS. Do I really need it?

The parks were crowded last week end. The only day in July I ever heard they closed were july 4th. I have been there at Christmas when they closed for capacity and it is not fun. Hour lines just for food and bathrooms. I would bring sandwiches so you don't have to waste your time having lunch and make a res for dinner. Bring water bottles too so you can fill them in the fountains. It's $2.00 for a water or soda.

The Smithsonian has the new Udvar Hazy Air & Space Museum out at Dulles Airport. The exhibits are much larger than the Main Air & Space Museum downtown. Admission is free, but parking is $12 per car. They have the Space Shuttle Enterprise (The real one), the Enola Gay B-29, an Air France Concorde, SR-71 Blackbird, etc. It is well worth the trip. The museum is located on the south side of the airport property. You enter off of Route 28 north of Route 50. ::yes::

They also have an IMAX Theater there. A McDonalds is also on site for lunch.

First of all ... I don't expect any kind of inheritance, so no worries there.

As to your second point about anal Germans ... I'm married to one. :lmao:

Paige,

what about taking them to Arlington?

Yes, we may do Arlington because we'll have to see the 8th & I silent drill team at the Iwo Jima Memorial, located adjacent to Arlington. The last time we went to Arlington, I was pregnant with Emily. And we walked and walked and walked. And it is hilly. I think my kids would enjoy seeing the tomb of the unknowns, and we also have a friend who is buried there, so we could pay tribute as well.
