Good morning everyone. Today is a "Personal Retreat Day". We are told by our boss to stay home, read, study, pray, etc. I got a few ideas, but I can't do it all day. In about an hour, I am going to Jay's concert in school. This afternoon at 2:00, I have an interview with the newspaper, so I do have to do some things.

I can relate to the problems with moving. I grew up in The Salvation Army as my parents are also involved with it. I moved between my junior and senior year of high school, and the schools were like night and day. I moved from a inner city school to a upper middle class suburban school. The different states also had different guidelines for graduation, so I had to take a full course load to graduate. If I needed one more class, I would have had to go to summer school! It was all due to the fact that the states have different guidelines and the interpretation of those guidelines.

All of that issues were before the socialization process which really sucked!!!!! :scared1: By senior year, all the cliques are established. I didn't go to prom, not because I couldn't get a date, but because I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars to be around people that I didn't like! I just couldn't wait to graduate and get out of there!

I think I was the only senior that rode a bus! I wanted a car so bad, but my dad wanted me to wait until college and assured me I would be able to buy a better car with having more time to save.

Ok, enough of a rant. I'm over it, I really am!!!;)

Yes, we've done Oki a few years ago. We're now in Quantico. Oki is a hard place to say goodbye because the friends you make there are like family. Is your DD living on the south side or closer north?

It's more south than north I think, in base housing (Foster). We had LOTS of rain while there, so our sightseeing days were somewhat limited but it was a very interesting trip. Both families were stationed in NC together (worked same shop in each location), then Mark & Lauren followed them to Oki about a yr later.

I'd love to visit once more, but I doubt that will happen - the airfares alone are quite high, never mind the time needed to make it worthwhile. I'm looking forward to visiting them in San Diego again - maybe we'll even get to Disneyland this time! As of right now their plan is to settle here in Fl when he retires, so we'll see what happens - it'd be nice to have family close by again!

The overseas bases are the hardest to leave, the friends you make are so much closer. When we left Germany I cried for days, swore I would never make another friend. I didn't work when my kids were little so we had a lot of very good friends.

...yep. And now that retirement is right around the corner, the realization sets in that you may never "see" these people again. When you're still Active Duty, there's a chance you could be stationed together again, especially in the Marine Corps, since it's smaller than the other branches.

OK--my pity party is over! I am going to put on my cd's that I got for Mother's Day (steel drum music) and think "cruisey thoughts."

My BF still talks about living in Germany, and she's been out of there for ~34 years, and divorced for 32+. She absolutely loved living there.

They're in a great location--centrally located. We were a little north, Camp Courtney, and we loved it.:goodvibes

They do too, and I can see why. It was a running joke though about how we left 85-90 degree sunny Fl weather to visit a tropical island with weather in the high 50s to low/mid 60s and lots of clouds and rain - and it was not yet rainy season!

It took to the last two days to see the sun and to not wear a jacket!

This pic includes the family that just moved plus the DGS that lives with us full time (he's in the blue & grey shirt)

Are you doing an excursion there? I have some friends who are taking this cruise in June. It's their first DCL cruise, so I passed along any info I could think of, but I knew nothing of Tortola.....

I don't know if there is a Canopy Tour there but if there is they should definitely check it out. It is not cheap, but it is a fantastic adventure!

Steel drum music? Ooooooh, I just love it Sistah P. Which ones did you get? Right now, I'm playing a really great cd I got with this great music from Louisiana on it from an awesome DISer on the KK1 cruise.

I can always depend on Heather being logged on to talk to me during my lunch break. But....she thought cruising would be more fun than talking to me. :lmao:

Anyone else out there? Joanne? afeg?? ;)

It is cloudy, windy and chilly here today!!! Where is the sun!

I like that a personal retreat day!!! Mine would be on the beach with a book.

I can't believe you aren't packed yet Joanne. I plan on busting out the suitcases right after the 4th of July. :lmao:

I haven't had time--- ugh..... But it's just me not all four of us.

Hey Leisha, I think you owe us a few pics of your kiddos, right? I believe we've been waiting since last weekend. Are you going to make us wait until after the wedding?? :)
