I'm asking for a little pixie dust today please if you have any spare. My Dad is going in for surgery. He's already at the hospital now, so by the time you wake up he'll probably be done (hopefully), but a little pixie dust and prayer might help his speedy recovery:goodvibes

many thanks everybody:grouphug:

Hope all went well.

Are you a 'Martha' (Stewart) or a 'Mother Goose' ?

Martha: Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of an ice cream cone to prevent ice cream drips.

MG:Just suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone, for Pete's sake! You are probably lying on the couch with your feet up eating it, anyway!

_______________

Martha :To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.

MG: Buy Hungry Jack mashed potato mix. Keeps in the pantry for up to a year.

_______________
Martha: When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake.

MG: Go to the bakery! Heck, they'll even decorate it for you!

_____________________

Martha: If you accidentally over-salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant 'fix-me-up.'

MG: If you over-salt a dish while you are cooking, that's too bad. Please recite with me the real woman's motto: 'I made it, you will eat it and I don't care how bad it tastes!'

___________________-

Martha: Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.

MG: Celery? Never heard of it!

_____________________

Martha:Brush some beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish.

MG: The Mrs. Smith frozen pie directions do not include brushing egg whites over the crust, so I don't.

_________________

Martha: Cure for headaches: take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

MG: Take a lime, mix it with tequila, chill and drink! All your pains go away!

_________________

Martha:If you have a problem opening jars, try using latex dish washing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.

MG: Go ask that very cute neighbor if he can open it for you.

________________________

Martha: Don't throw out all that leftover wine. Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.

MG : Leftover wine??????????? HELLO!!!!!!!

(Names were changed to protect the innocent). :rotfl:

Fantastic!!! I have to say I am very Martha. :guilty:

I love this one:lmao:

Great pictures Karen, this one especially.

We did Legoland in CA quite a few years ago, great fun.

Of course, Big Daddy! We are actually in a great location, so anyone who is thinking about DC next year, here is a good place to be. Uncle Sam doesn't provide us with a huge house (Joanne can back me up on this), but for overflow, we have a hotel on base that is very reasonable priced. We are 30 minutes (with no traffic) from DC, and I think about 30 minutes from the battle fields in Fredericksburg, a little further for Manasses.:thumbsup2

I will second that, base housing is very small, but yours sure does look nice. When we bought our first and only house it was hard to put nails inthe wall. But I miss moving, I now have 13 years of stuff..

Hope every one had nice birthday's.

Karen- great pictures, they are amazing.

It took a while to catch up. Too busy at work.

Karen, those pics are AWESOME!!! He's such a cutie. Love the matching shirts!

Thank you. :goodvibes

:grouphug::grouphug:
I'll be praying for him, Karen!

Thank you

Gee, Legos are a lot bigger in England than they are here...
   :rotfl:

I love Legoland! When we lived in Southern California, we would go down to the one near San Diego. We have more Legos than I care to admit. Including many sets that have never been put together. (It takes that precious commodity that I always seem to be in short supply of...time) Of course, I find time to be on the DIS. Oh well, I guess it all comes down to priorities. :rotfl2:

Matthew

Ok, I had this conversation with Suz last October - over here we say Lego, not legos. Doesn't matter if you talk about one brick or hundreds ..its still just lego:goodvibes Its wierd that you put an s onm the end:rotfl:

Hope all went well.

Thank you everybody for all your pixie dust and good wishes. Its a 2 hour op and I've still not heard anything yet.:sad2: Moms phone is still switched off. My Dad has had problems since his motorbike accident 8 years ago and its still all related to that. He barely has any mobility in his left arm nowadays. They are doing keyhole surgery and and exploratory op to see if much can be done. He takes so many tablets he rattles when he walks. He's extremely lucky to be alive so we're very thankful for that. His whole body was so messed up at the accident that they missed his shoulder and arm being fractured:rolleyes: He was on such strong painkillers for ages it wasnt til ages later they realized:rolleyes: He does ok though. His hands are held on by metal plates and he had to medically retire but the rest of him healed pretty well.

please keep yourfingers crossed

Karen, just checking in to see if you've received any word yet. Continued prayers!

We often ponder how strange it'll be to stay in one place for more than 3 years......

Thank you. :goodvibes

:grouphug: :wizard: :grouphug: :wizard: for Karen and her daddy!

Great pics by the way. I love looking at all the pictures--It's never boring. Ellis is really growing up, Karen. Handsome boy!:thumbsup2

Karen loved the pics. My DS Jay would absolutely love Legoland, and I would probably love it as much as him.

He has the Star Wars Legos games for his PS2 and they are just great. When you "kill" the bad guys, the legos just break apart and there are certain things you have to build. The bald guys also have no hair attached so they have that "lego knob" on their heads exposed. I noticed you had a picture of him with Lego Indy. We are waiting to get the Indy lego game until we determine if we are finally going to get a Wii.

Thanks for sharing! Prayers for your dad.

Heather posted a great shot of some of our Bobers having fun...

....which I will now post here in case anyone hasn't been to her blog yet :thumbsup2

Hope they don't mind

Boy, wish we were there!!! :cloud9:

Mike ask Robin does she still have the name of her surgeon?.....:rolleyes1

Here's some more great one liners....

"Two hours in the restaurant and another hour out in the parking lot and this girl is ready for bed"....An hour?...you the man chuck...:cool1:

"Mike, are you reading what I am reading? I think Chris has come over to our side. He likes PLAIN foods! WELCOME CHRIS!"

"I have been DISing for 11 years now"

"Bah! I guess now I'm going to have to convince Jay to splurge on caviar and champagne service at V&A instead"

"Also comes down to finances. The two combined will cost be about $4,500, plus all the "extras" (not looking forward to tomorrow morning when the bill comes"

"I love food too but it shows"

He's ok!
The delay apparantly was just down to the surgeon being late:rolleyes:

Neil has just gone to fetch them back home now. I wanted to go but didnt think Dad was up to Ellis just yet. He'll still be a bit groggy from the anaesthetic (sp?). No details yet, but he's still alive which is a good start:woohoo: They were really concerned re his very high blood pressure - it was borderline whether they would go ahead or not. thank you all for your pixie dust - it worked:woohoo:

He's got check ups in 6 weeks then weeks and weeks of physio ahead of him now but hopefully he'll get some mobility back in his arm and shoulder.
