Paige - She is a beautiful young lady! It looks like she was headed for a very nice evening. Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Here are Homecoming pictures from this weekend.....Emily was part of the sword detail during the halftime show on Friday night, then they had a dinner and dance on Saturday night. She had a good time, even though her allergies were in high gear, poor thing.

You have a beautiful daughter Paige - you guys must be very proud of her. I love her dress - good thing he got her a wristlet and not a pin-on corsage! :rotfl:

O.K., here is a picture from our weekend:

That is too funny:lmao:

You've done a beautiful job with the garden!

How does one have a boot sale inside? IS it like a big building where you can pull the cars in or do you remove things from the boot to take inside somewhere?
I will see what I can find out about a TAT2 pen.

You take folding tables and set up inside a large hall. We just got back - we did well:thumbsup2

Wow You guys have sure made your "garden" look great. It is so green. Our grass in Texas is so brown since it hadn't rained that much last summer. Di

Everywhere is green because we had that much rain this summer

More England questions....

Does anyone there have front yards/gardens? If so, what are they called?

What do you call a plot with tomatoes, corn, squash, or what have you?

What do you call a large area with ponds and plants or sculpted hedges and flowers or simply large areas of different types of roses?

We are having grand discussions on this end about the differences in language and how much English has changed. Also, are there colloquialisms there? Would there be folks who would call your garden a yard or something else in a different part of England?

Lots of people have front gardens. Some people remove them like we have done to make parking spaces so you dont have to park on the street. They are called gardens - a yard to us would be a small square of concrete area with no flowerbeds or lawn etc.

A vegetable plot or allotment is where we'd grow fruit/veg.

Everything is called a garden in England whether its huge and belongs to a stately home or tiny attached to a house, or if its all in one area of soil we call those flowerbeds.

Hope that all makes sense:confused3 :rotfl: :rolleyes1

Makes perfect sense - I get it! Thanks for not laughing at me in the post. I hate to not know something, so I really appreciate your telling me! Mack's cousin lives in England now, but we hardly ever see her and never thought to ask her. Thanks again!

LORI:

Megan is lamenting the absence of her friends on the Kid Kruisers thread. She is using my log-in and running up my total posts -- she did a whole page plus some! I know there are only a couple of kids on there. She sees how chatty the adults are and wants the kids to be that way too! She has posted asking for Alex to email her.

It's not like she doesn't have any other friends, mind you. She is just excited about the cruise!

I will tell Alex in a couple of minutes. I'll finish catching up and get her on there!

What do we need to do to link dining and when should we do it? Mack and I have late and definitely want to be linked. Do tell, please.

Joanne - Will you kindly (and officially) take care of a private room Palo brunch again for us please?

I am getting way too excited for it to be this far away!

I had a wonderful surprise this morning from my British Sis Heather. I guess you could say we had a telephone DIS meet. It was wonderful hearing from her and Rick, and I started tearing up when we had to hang up. We were a little late showing up and I had to tell my dad that we had a phone call from my friend in Britain. He just smiled, which surprised me because he tends to be a bit grumpy. My dad had changed a bit since he retired. Not sure if it is because he doesn't have to work or if it is because mom works 2.5 hours away and stays with her best friend 3 nights a week.:lmao:

It was lovely speaking to you all including Sarah (although I'm sure she thought it was some made woman on the phone!). Fear not Becky...Rick and I will fly out and visit with you and Sean at some point. I can't wait till 2011 to see you again

Have a great break..lots of photos please:thumbsup2

That makes perfect sense. How cool the way the street ends in between houses and there blocks give you your own area. I love it. So my husband and I noticed there is not a lot visible grass. Are yards common there? We have a small lot compared to other places we have lived - only 3/4 of an acre. There is still a lot of grass though. It appears you and your neighbors have privacy fences around your back yards - are they rather large? I love your home - it looks beautiful!

We have heard a little bit about Skype and have thought that might be the best way to go. We are researching it. I have heard coverage in New Zealand may be a problem. If we can't get the answers we need, I will definitely ask you for contact info. Thank you!!!!

We use Skype to talk to Medicalman and his family. I am trying to Skype them now.:goodvibes

I did it when I booked the cruise - since we were only the 2nd of the group to book, the girl I was talking to just did it - actually she suggested it. As for anybody else I'm not sure what they have done if anything. I do know that Dave & Sue just booked & were able to get a table next to us. Maybe if you call the cruise line they can do it. Palo can't be done until much closer. Off to grandson's hockey game.

Heres two photos from this morning. Look at the grass plant by the fence on the left - see how much its grown! It was about 18 nches tall when we planted it - it now touches the purpley tree branches - about 50inches!

Your garden had really grown well, Karen.

I just called DCL with my reservation number and gave them Joanne & Roger and Dan & Nancy's cabin numbers and asked them to link us. That was it. Easy! I think Leisha & Tom are linked to us too.

Where is everyone? Oh yeah, meets, parties, anniversaries, and probably watching football. I am off to grade papers, but I will check back in.

We were babysitting 2 of our grandchildren, ages 2 & 5. That explains it all doesn't it?!!!

We are having grand discussions on this end about the differences in language and how much English has changed. I can still spout of the first 13 lines of the Canterbury Tales in Middle English, so we do make comparisons. Also, are there colloquialisms there? Would there be folks who would call your garden a yard or something else in a different part of England?

Mimi...some answers for you:

1. There just called front gardens
2. People have allotments (these are plots of land that can be rented from the local Councils) which they grow vegetables in. Also, if their gardens are big enough they have vegetable plots.
3. We have parks & formal gardens (these you usually pay an entrance fee to see where the parks are free)

You know, there's one more space for a Palo table. 13 is an unlucky #.

N

I know Nancy - I'm hoping he's able to make it. If not, I might ask a friend. But would be tough to bring someone new in at this point, since we've all bonded! :lmao:

I tried to do this with your cabin number that is listed on the "I'm with Bob, are you?" and they said they did not have you in that room. They mentioned if you made your reservation through a travel agent, that might be why you aren't showing up. They told me if I e-mailed you our reservation number and cabin number, you could call your travel agent and have them link us. Am I getting the run-around?
