RCCL was our first 7-day cruise. We took the kids with us too. We found ourselves comparing it to Carnival as that was the only line we had been on previously. When we sailed Disney last week, we compared it to the other two as well. It was interesting. They all have things we liked and wished the others had, but we do love Disney! Who couldn't love that ship's horn?!?! Who couldn't love having Donald Duck on board?!?!?!!!!! I could go on and on!
Our first cruise was on RCCL. The ship had no alternate dining options. There was a self serve ice cream machine that was pulled out during the afternoon. On sea days it was so choppy and the ship was going so fast that the pools were closed most sea days. It was a nice first cruise, but DCL was so much better in our opinion. For what we paid, $500/pp for a 7 day it was very much worth it. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have paid a couple hundred more for a bigger and newer ship.

The wait staff and stateroom attendants on both lines were good, but DCL was a little better. The alternate dining was much better on DCL. One thing I noticed on DCL is that the ships went slower during the day and faster at night. Could this be for people to enjoy the deck space without 25 mph ambient wind??

I had a feel good feeling on RCCL, but on DCL I get that same feeling I get when I walk up Main Street USA, or get off the Disney Bus. You can't replicate that no matter how hard you try.

Yes, thank you very much.

Still planning the trip, however Air Tran just announced service to Cancun. The credits needed for a FF ticket are the same as a domestic ticket (8), so I'm not sure if we will pay the $75 and switch our vacation.

Unless I can earn a couple more FF tickets (I have 4 one ways right now, need 6), I don't think I'll spend the $200 for each of the 2 extra one-ways I need.

I did find out that the B30 bus runs from BWI to the end of I think the Green Line, so we can easily get from BWI to a hotel on the Metro lines. I think it was less than $6.00 each.

What are your thoughts about taking our luggage on the Metro? We arrive around 11:00 a.m. and even if we take the last flight back, we'd be going back to BWI around 4:00 in the afternoon. Both are on weekdays.

11:00 no problem. 4:00--might be crowded....

Taking luggage on the Metro is no problem. People do it all the time, especialy since DCA is on the Metro line.

Fabulous pictures Heather. Will you start over from the beginning please? :goodvibes

Oh this is funny - on our only sea day, we were wondering why DCL wasn't going faster during the day to create more wind - it would have been much more comfortable. It did get better as we got closer to a storm and there was some cloud cover and either wind or they were going faster to avoid a storm. Of course, the last night when we tried to walk up on the bow, there was so much wind, I could not brace my body. It was pulling the earrings out of my ears. We had to turn back.

DCL rocks though! We were on one of RCCL's larger ships - Mariner. It was fine. We enjoyed it, but I prefer DCL for the very reason you mentioned - it is so similar to walking down Main Street and just feeling the magic ooze from everywhere at once.

We did the Independence in May and it was lovely. We do the Jewel in May, which is smaller and hopefully more like DCL.

Tomorrow...disembarkation and staying at Boardwalk.

The other non-stop flight is in the morning and for us to get to BWI on time, we'd have to be on the Metro at 7:30 a.m. Guess either way it will be during rush, but I think I'd take my chances in the afternoon.

I just got a lovely gift in the mail today from a very special BOBer in the UK. No idea who it came from though. (Well, I think I might have an idea). :goodvibes

Thank you Mystery BOBer. :grouphug:

The wind was everyday on RCCL. When we would get to the bow it was a struggle to walk, then when we turned the corner the wind pushed us. We had 9-12ft swells and significant winds, so all week we had chop.
