I so don't pay attention at times......

I thought this wedding Hazel and I were going to on Saturday was at noon. Hazel just reminded me, the wedding is at 10:30am with the reception from 12-4. The other thing is, I don't even know the bride or groom. The, bride to be, is a young lady who teaches Missionettes on Wednesday nights with Hazel. Well, at least Hazel knows them.........

Well, someone on the DVC board says that if I bank them, they will expire 3/31/2010.

That would be fine except we have all of our trips planned (so I think our points are allocated) before then, and we don't plan to go in 2010.

I hope I can "switch" the points to one of my upcoming trips (which I had to borrow from next year's points) and return the "borrowed" points back to 2009, so I can bank them, then use them in 2011. UGH! My brain hurts.

Unfortunately, after you borrow points, they can't be put back into the use year that they came from. You have to use them in the year they were borrowed to or lose them.

Excerpted from DVCmember.com

- If you have not completed travel on borrowed Vacation Points by the end of the Use Year they've been borrowed into, they will expire.
- You cannot return borrowed Vacation Points to their original Use Year.
- You cannot bank or transfer borrowed Vacation Points.
- All borrowing transactions are final.

We borrowed some BCV points from our 2009 Use Year in order to complete a home resort reservation for next July. We could only use our BCV points to do this because it was 11 months out. If we were allowed to "switch" the points around later and use our OKW points, we wouldn't have to borrow the 2009 BCV points. That's why there is a rule. We could "game" the system to make the home resort priority booking benefit meaningless.

If you cancel a reservation made with borrowed points, they go into a penalty holding account that has restrictions on their use. However, they must be used in the Use Year that they were borrowed into.

There is a market to sell points that you can't use right here on Disboards though. You could make some $$$ off of them.
(Or you could just give them away as somebody already pointed out. :rolleyes1 )

From the DVC website:

What do I need to know about borrowing Vacation Points?

You may borrow Vacation Points only when confirming a reservation and can only borrow the number of Vacation Points needed to make that reservation.

If you have not completed travel on borrowed Vacation Points by the end of the Use Year they've been borrowed into, they will expire.

You cannot return borrowed Vacation Points to their original Use Year.

You cannot bank or transfer borrowed Vacation Points.

You may apply borrowed Vacation Points to all Member Getaways reservations.

All borrowing transactions are final.

In order to borrow Vacation Points, you must be current on your Annual Dues and monthly loan payments (if applicable), and cannot have any other overdue balances related to your Membership.

Borrowing may be suspended or limited from time to time in order to maintain a proper balance of Vacation Points in the Central Reservation System.

not good news for me

Paige,

Are your points, the 20 in question, from 2008? If so, can you not bank them? Or is that not allowed if you borrowed into this year?

Am I reading something wrong in what Andy posted. It talks about borrowed points, but unless I read it wrong, are yours this years (i.e. not borrowed or banked)?

Wow, there were a lot of replies while I was typing mine.

I'll just change mine to "What Andy said." :thumbsup2

I believe that she wants to use her remaining 20 2008 points to substitute for points that she already borrowed so that they could be returned "unborrowed" to their original Use Year. DVC doesn't allow you to do that.

From the way I read Paige's post, it sounded as if she borrowed some 2009 points, if this is the case, they can't be banked. They have to be used by the end of her current use year or she will lose them.

Yes, my points are for this year (Apr 08). Somehow I have 20 points left for this year, none for 2009 and only 107 for 2010. My contract is for 150 points.....

What happened is that my borrowed points changed.....I had ressies at SSR, then changed them to BWV and the 20 points left over went into this use year.......

OK, I'm going to bed. I am completely confused now. Wedding not at noon but at 10:30, Banking and Borrowing 2008/2009/2010 DVC Points, my head is swirling. :rotfl:

Good Night All..........:faint:

So if they are 2008, why can you not bank them? You are not asking to bank the ones you borrowed from 2009, you are banking points that have not been used for anything.

Or, does DVC not let you bank if you borrowed (and I'm not talking about banking the borrowed points, I'm talking about the '08 points)?

Yes, I can bank them. So they will expire in March 2010. I already have my XMAS trip and summer 09 trip reserved (with borrowed points), and don't plan to go back to WDW until 2011......

Got it.

Maybe you should just extend your trip. I"m sure the kids wouldn't mind. :rotfl:

What about switching to a "better" property to use them up?

So who else is on tonight?

I see:

Matthew
Chris
Walt/Di

Also know Paige is around.

Anyone else?

She could bank them to the 2009 Use Year. However, she has the same problem. All of her 2009 points are already used. It's awfully tough to make a vacation out of just 20 points.

Paige, were any of your 2009 Use Year points actually used for a reservation during the 2009 Use Year (04/2009 - 03/2010)? If that is the case, then you can bank the 20 2008 UY points to 2009, and then substitute them for 20 2009 UY points used for a 2009 UY reservation. That would free them up to bank the 20 2009 UY points until 2010. (Boy, that sounds confusing, but it can be done.)

You can't substitute them for borrowed points, but if you are using 2009 UY points for a 2009 UY trip, then they are not banked points. (Does that make sense?)

We can talk on Sunday. I'm a banking and borrowing savant. :p
(Or at least I should be after 15 years of DVC membership)

I hadn't thought about switching up...hmm, you've got me wondering. 20 points aren't much though...
