Hey Kevin!! All is well here hope the same for you guys!! :thumbsup2

Your right about jordak. You can find more of his designs on the magnets thread

As for software I use a freeware called Picasa 3. You can do many simple fixes with this program. I use it all the time. It's great for cropping, straightening, adjust saturation and such. Try it, I'm sure you'll like it.

For more complicated pp work I use Photoshop Elements 7. There is plugin for PE 7 that I really like called Topaz Adjust.. I love the effects you can have with Topaz from the mild to the extreme

I rarely shoot in raw due to file size and having a slow comp. Jpeg is what I use. I find the Nikon D80 does a great job with white balance and such that raw is rarely needed. It's a personal preference I guess.

Hope this helps you. Have fun, the digital world will drive you crazy. There is always something new to entice you with.......:rotfl:

Hope all had a great weekend.

Dave...thanks for the info - have reviewed ~150 pages of the link you offered. WOW...there is some incredable talent in this thread. I couldn't resist...had Jordak make a door sign for me. Have also pulled some images to create some others.

I use an very early version of Photoshop on my laptop...but wanted a program with more capability for our home computer. The home computer is really fast and I've got plenty of stoarge space. I have Friday off...so I'll have some down time to check out Picasa. Will let you know how it goes.

You make some good points on staying with jpeg. I was almost convinced the best way to get the highest quality - was raw. It made a lot of sence to use a full size computer to adjust images instead of the little computer in the camera. Maybe I just need to stop overthinking this - and use that time to shoot more.

Thanks for taking the time to pass some thoughts and suggestions. Apprecate it/you.

Well...Monday morning will come...if I'm rested - or not. Time to turn in - good night all. K

Hi! My DH (Donny) and I (Tarin) will be going on this cruise - it is our 2nd Cruise and our 2nd Wedding Anniversary is the first at sea day :-) I met a few other DISboards people and they encouraged me to join and come on here! I can't wait and I hope to make friends here on the boards and participate in the Fish Extender gifts as well.

a BIG welcome to Donny and Tarin.

Congrats on your first post...

Thanks for responding back! I'm working on that kid's thread. My daughter wants to chat with other kids her age on our cruise, before the cruise. Curious....... what is the fish extender?
~ Gabrielle
A fish extender hangs on the fish next to your door. Most people make a pocket for each person and then other cruisers put goodies in the pockets. My first time doing it but everyone says it is really fun.

Hi! My name is Nathalie. I am from Quebec, canada (I’m french, so sorry if my english is bad!!) We are going to be on the Magic with all of you. I and my future husband, Simon, are going to celebrate a special event on this cruise : we are going to get married on Thursday, Oct 28th with an Onboard Ceremony, i can’t wait!

We all have a Category 8 Stateroom and we will be located on Deck 6.

On our last cruise in 2008, we met Paul (Paul2003) and all his family. We really had great time with all of them. They also are going to be part of our Wedding.

Great weekend to all of you!

Just wanted to say Congrats on your pending wedding on the ship and can't wait to meet up onboard. :thumbsup2

HI! I Also can't wait to see all of you onboard. For those who wanted to know, we are from Quebec City, quebec. Is there any members from Quebec or Canada who will sail with us??

Hey Kevin

Glad to see you went and visited the magnate thread. I like the design you picked out. :thumbsup2

Using the camera for pp work is something I have never done. It's to hard to tell what the pic will look like on 3 inch screen.

I'm sure the version of Photoshop you have would work fine for what you need. Can you put in on your desk top?

You can still shoot raw if you want it's just that after you have tweaked the pic to the way you want you then save it to jpeg. I use the highest setting of jpeg for all my pics. This allows me the option to make large prints if I so desire. Again you need to do what works for you.

No, I didn't ask Jordak (Isn't his name Jack and daughter Jordan?) for a camera design. I showed Peter and told if he wanted one, join DIS! :teeth: Peter has the D80. I do LOVE the D5000! It is lighter and a tad smaller body than the D80 - perfect for me. We are going to Epcot Flower and Garden in May :yay: as well as Animal Kingdom - my favorite park to photograph. Yep, practice practice. There is no way around that. I have been learning alot about PSE; practicing with Photoshop Elements - working on digital scrapbooking. Does zippo for my camera skills though. The DSLR world truly is HUGE! There are so many facets to it. HDR looks REALLY hard. I am girl always up for a challenge but I don't think I would touch HDR for several years! You certainly have the eye and the talent for it. Just what I have seen of yours so far is incredible! I will have to look into the Topaz Adjust. I will catch up with this thread then jump over to the photo thread. THANKS DAVE!

Sandy

Jordak's name is Marty or a least that what he signed on a pm that I received from him....lol

I thought Peter had the D80. Just couldn't remember.

I love AK. It has to be the best park for photography. Some of my best shots have come from that park. Be sure to post your results when you get back.

HDR is not as hard as you make it sound. As long as your camera can bracket you should be fine. The tricky part is the pp work when you put the shots together and then tone map them. This is when you can become very creative. Mild or extreme it's your choice.

Have fun with D5000 and please post you results when you get a chance.

And thank so much for the kind words. :goodvibes

Hey there neighbor, I'm just down the 401 from you guys. Glad to have you aboard. Congrats on the anniversary. It's our 25th anniversary.

Can't wait to get this cruise started. :woohoo:

Hey were from Canada!!! :cool1: Were from Milton just outside of Toronto.

Love your city. Stayed at the Le Château Frontenac last summer. We were there during the Bell Festival. Had great time and would love to go back.

We're from Toronto, ON! It's our second cruise but we didn't hook up with DISers before :-)

Hey Neighbor - Congrats on 25 years together! My in-laws live in Meadowvale/North Mississauga - so I think I know where you are - I don't drive :-P

Can I ask - do you participate in fish extenders? Are you doing anything particularly Canuck for them? I'm trying to come up with ideas and figured the after Canada Day sales that will be happening this summer might be a good place to start but I am not sure what to pick-up - HELP!

Thanks Tarin!!

I know Meadowvale quite well, we go there all the time. My niece lives there as well.

As for the FE exchange we are not sure if we are going participate as of yet. This is our 1st cruise so this is all new to us. Your idea about picking things up after Canada day sounds like a great plan. I may try that myself.. There is a thread on the cruise line forum with lots of ideas, you may want to check it out. I tried to find it right now but couldn't. Maybe someone else could post the link

Hope this helps.

Evad - SW airlines is Southwest? Did u get a good price direct from Pearson?
I just checked Air Canada/West Jet and its over $1000 for my DH and me - ridiculous!

Again my husband and I don't drive so we can't go out of Buffalo - I've there are good deals but I just can't get there :-(

Thanks and Happy Easter!

I thought I would drop by to wish everyone a blessed week-end. I pray that your higher power, whatever you call him or her, will be with you this week-end.

Happy Easter

I hope that this note finds everyone well and deep into planning for this cruise. We have begun to look at what we want to do at each port. Since we are doing a back to back I need to be reasonable. So at Castaway we will just kick back and relax as well as snorkle off the beach. At Key West we will walk down Duval Street and just enjoy the city. Grand Caymen is Capt Marvins. Can not wait to do this excursion for my 3rd time.

That leaves St. Maarten, St. Thomas, and Cozumel to plan for. We are thinking about doing a Maya excusion in Cozumel on on the island. St Thomas and St Maarten we want to do either beach. Cozumel does have a Dolphin excusion that has my eye but it is 100.00 more per person than the maya one I am looking at.

Decision they are hard for me to make but I do have till sometime in July.

One day closer and still counting!!!

Hey to all...all say's hey.

What a wonderful weekend! We are enjoying some 'down time' before leaving to have Easter dinner (brunch really) at my Sisters. Hope all are enjoying some great get-togethers.

I am bringing some 'bacon wrapped shimp'. The bacon was brushed with a little spicy brown mustard - wrapped and secured with a tooth pic before being grilled. Mmmmm - this is a favorite at our gatherings.

Dave...

I downloaded Picasa...wonderful freeware - thank you for passing this our way. I still have a lot to learn - but I like what I see and have accomplished - so far. Question...can you pass images to Photobucket on Picasa? Maybe I'm just too used to Photoshop...that I need a little more time to practice. Am having some challenges finding the correct path to locate my photos - any suggestions?

K

Ahoy Mates,

I would like to organize a Stateroom Tour on Sunday Oct. 24th (our 1st day at sea) at around 10:30 a.m. This was done on last year's September cruise, and was very successful. Yes, we were lucky enough to tour the Roy O. Disney Suite.

My goal this year is to be able to tour all the different staterooms. If you are interested in "opening" your stateroom for a tour, please PM with your stateroom number, the type of stateroom you have, and the location (bow, mid-ship, stern, port or starboard) If you just want to do the tour, I probably would just need your Dis boards name and the number of people taking the tour.

Ok, here's what I need: The three Inside Staterooms: Standard, Deluxe, and the Sideways (yes, there is such a thing), an Oceanview Stateroom (one with a porthole), the Navigator's Veranda, a standard stateroom with a veranda, the Family Stateroom with Veranda, a stateroom with adjoining rooms, and of course the suites.

Have a Magical day, Paul (Paul2003)
My husband, son and myself would like to join in the tour of the staterooms and open our stateroom to the group. We will be in stateroom 8530, The Roy Suite. I can't wait to meet our "group' and to start our vacation that I booked 2 years ago!
