10/23/11 - Disney Dream

The rumor is that the size of the this veranda is extra wide and twice as long.. Honest I am not making this up.... and as an added bonus TwinsFan has generiously offered a view of an aft veranda room 10664 and because of Disney Magic that Veranda us super long

A great way to see more of the ship.. And you can get a Mickey bar to boot..
These offers make me nervous...afraid that if we see the verandas we will want one :scared1:
If anyone wants to see a virtual porthole they can come to our cabin :rotfl:

OOOOOOOHHHHHH you are to kind, I would love to see a virtual Porthole.. Now the only trouble as I understand it, they show magic characters only a couple times a hour.. So it could get ugly when you have to chase us out.. we almost got one of those rooms.. They sound to die for.. Sometimes TV is better then real life... :happytv:

so many cruises.... so little time...

Yes they do show big games on the big screen.. On the Magic, down in the sports bar they have like 7 or 8 large screens tvs that pulled down.. and they will play several sporting events at the same time. Its a wonderful room if they can pick up the game they will play it for you... I would think they will have a sports bar on the Dream???

I am looking forward to our virtual porthole but I think I could be persuaded to trade for a veranda :rotfl: Im just afraid that once we sail with a veranda then we will "need" one for all future cruises :thumbsup2

Could be.. I know that once I tried the Cat 4/8 cabins with the round shower with the overhead showerhead... :lovestruc

Course, we are currently booked on the 27/30th B2B in a large balcony to try as my wife likes the balconies... ;)

Now if they would put the round overhead shower in a large balcony (and not pay for the Suites), we would be in heaven...

There are a couple of people who have posted you tube videos on the virtual portholes. The animations are wonderful..

Absolutely know what you mean. We were upgraded from Cat 9 oceanview to Cat 5 Verandah on our first cruise in 2007. Second cruise looked like they'd be no chances for free upgrades. So I paid the extra and upgraded myself to Cat 6. Luckily the price didn't increase by much. This year I have a inside cabin and a verandah (first and second cruises of a back to back) I wanted to see that Virtual Porthole but still I wanted that Verandah. So I got both. I do fear that I'll be upgraded out of my Virtual Porthole. If I do, it had better be for a Verandah (not likely) and for the same one that I have on this cruise. Otherwise I'd rather not do it.

Hello everyone. We will also be on the Dream 10/23/11 Celebrating my son's 11th birthday. My husband, me and son with our good friends. Husband, wife and 10 yr old son. What can we do and what can Disney do for our birthday boy?

I just learned that our stateroom (5688) is one of 2 rooms in the category with a teeny, tiny veranda instead of the oversized verandas that the rest of the rooms have. I'm very disappointed! :sad1:
Here are our options:
1. Keep our room and just accept the small veranda.
2. Upgrade now to the next room category (cost = $200) and get a better veranda.
3. Keep our room for now and attempt to upgrade at the Port.

Since this is a child-free cruise for us, I've been fantasizing about morning coffee on the veranda and an evening "adult" beverage on the veranda. On the other hand we aren't experienced cruisers and I don't honestly know if we'll use the veranda as much as we think we will. For the record, my DH thinks we should upgrade now. (And the cruise is my 40th birthday present!)

Thanks,
Amanda

Looked at the review for the cabin at http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/roomreport.cfm?Room=5688

You could do either, upgrade now to guarantee an upgraded room, or get to the port early to grab and upgrade there. Upgrades at the port are cheaper than before the cruise. But, the port upgrade prices are based on the Cat you are booked for.

I would say your best option is upgrade now, you still can upgrade at the port and the upgrade will be a little cheaper based on your new booking. This allows you to get a better room AND still upgrade to an even better room at the port. :thumbsup2

The least you DH can do for your birthday... Tho, I might try talking him into a Remy's dinner too...

May I inquire as to how teeny a teeny, tiny verandah is? Is there still enough room for the usual two chairs out there?

If so, that's all you need to enjoy your morning coffee and evening beverage.

If not, then you might want to upgrade if possible. Personally, I would not wait until the port but would call DCL for a quick reply.

Good luck and have a wonderful cruise.

Thank you ALL for the rapid replies!!!!
We made the decision to upgrade and it ended up only costing $100. I think we made the right decision (and I reserve the right to upgrade again at the Port :lmao: ).
To answer some of the questions:
I emailed my travel agent as soon as I realized there might be a problem and she told me the options and the cost.
I won a copy of Passporter's Guide from a Facebook contest and it arrived last week (while we were at Disney). I finally started flipping through the book and realized that we had one of 2 staterooms with an extra small balcony. There was one review of that stateroom on the DIS and it said the same thing - the balcony had a bench seat but was too small for 2 chairs and a table. I'm not an experienced cruiser but I think I'd like to sit on the veranda and drink some coffee in the morning while my DH sleeps in (I'm a morning person and he's not really). When I talked to DH, he felt we should definitely upgrade (he was pretty angry about the situation - much more than I was). I emailed my TA today and the upgrade only cost $100. (She also confirmed with a friend who had been in 5688 that the balcony is quite small.)
For the FE - Please change my stateroom number to 5654!!!

Methinks, you will like the new room. If you wanted room on the balcony you got it. Balconies on the Deck 5 are the extended variety and have a lot of room to stretch out. :thumbsup2

Be-aware tho, the extended part is visible from the upper deck cabins so, don't do anything you do not want showing up on YouTube. :rotfl:

Congrads on the upgrade.. It would have been neat to see that Veranda in Person..

This story is 100% true because I was there and saw the whole thing..

One Year we were doing the Western Cruise and arrived in Grand Cayman, but left because a storm was coming through. So the ship had an extra day at sea and arrived that evening in the port of Cozumel. The Ship docked on the outside of the pier with no ship on the inside of the pier and we had a beautiful night time view of the lights of the city.

My bride and I sat on the Veranda, basking in the romantic surreal view of the of the Mexican City so deeply, we could barely hear the kids fighting over the TV. ahhhh We we so much in love and a deeper trust abounded in each of us..

Anyhoo, the next morning the kids had left for their clubs. My bride slept in late and I went to pull back the drapes to greet the morning. But in the night a taller cruise ship had moored on the inside dock. Our view of Cozumel was completely blocked. The ship was maybe 30 feet from us and looked down in to our cabins.. In fact the dining room was full of people eating their morning Breakfast. We were so close one could tell the types of food as they ate.

Well I quickly dressed and woke my bride telling to hurry to the Veranda as to see the beautiful Morning.. I told her no need to dress for Gods sake we were far from the shoreline. Then I implored her to Just close her eyes and I will pull open the drapes and count 5 and she can open her eyes and be awaken by a new day.. Again I want to stress we were so much in love and trust abound in our hearts..

Well needless to say I found the whole thing very funny.. and as the years have passed I would like to think that even my bride looks back with a smile or two.
