We would love to participate in the FE!

hey there,
wanted to introduce ourselves, we have just booked our first cruise!! woo hooo! we are newbies to cruising, not just new to disney cruiselines, so any extra tips would be great. we are traveling with my parents and my sister, her hubby and son. my family consists of Tara (myself), DH Tim, DD's Maggie and Annie.

we wanted to participate in the FE too, my sister isn't into it, but i want to include my nephew, so i assume i can just add him to my room's fe and gift for him. that's not a problem is it? i'm still figuring all of this out. my room # is 5676 i will have four pockets, (i guess?) one for myself and tim combined, one for DD Maggie 5, one for DD Annie 3, and one for DN(ephew) Cal 7. we look forward to trying this out and are already working on ideas for what to gift. it's such a fun idea. the way my kids love to check the mail, i know they'll loooove this!

one more question, i thought i had seen on dis somewhere that there were halloween party nights on the october cruises, but i talked to someone who cruised this year and they hadn't had one. i'm trying to plan costumes, etc that my girls will need, like pirate hats, princess outfits and what not.
thanks!-T

Hi there Patty and Tara. My name is Ginny. My 8 year old daughter has mild autism. She is very excited as well. I can't wait to do the FE thing. It is going to be so much fun.

Welcome Tara and Patty!

I have added you guys to the list. Do me a favor and just check to make sure I did it correctly!

As for FE "rules"...we can really do whatever WE want, it is our cruise after all! :-)

Our plan is to stay at WDW through the following weekend after the cruise. It will be Food & Wine Festival time at Epcot after all!

We are doing Kennedy after the cruise.

Yensid room looks great! Thanks!

Ginny, my DSS, Robert, who will be 12 when we cruise is an Aspie. He is so excited. He saw the dream roll out video and got all excited and not to mention never seeing the ocean.

The next 10 months cant go by quick enough

we're doing 3 days in the parks prior to the cruise.

also, just wanted to mention i read (Somewhere) that the food and wine fest wasn't happening next year (boo).

Food and Wine is not happening at Disneyland in California. Epcot's event is still going on and dates have already been announced...so we are GOOD!

WELCOME CRUISERS!

Getting to know all of you DISers before the cruise helps make the cruise more enjoyable.

Here is some information I found on another Dis site for DCL cruises that I thought may be helpful to those on our cruise.

MAGNETS
Milliepie and tjbaggott do great custom magnet work and can be found on the magnet threads on Dis boards.

Cruise magnet graphics can be found on this thread:

FISH EXTENDER EXCHANGE SIGN UP:
We will need to have a person to lead up the Fish Extender (FE) program to get the following information organized for the group.

1. Your DISboard name.
2. Stateroom Number
3. Names, ages and gender of everyone in your stateroom that will be participating in the FE Exchange.
There are always questions such as "Is there a price minimum or maximum?" "Do we give one gift for each stateroom or one gift per person in each stateroom?" "Do we give a gift each night or just one night?" The answer to all of you is this: It's entirely up to you. If you guys want to set some minimum/maximum amounts, per stateroom or per person gift, that's entirely up to all of you. I think everyone just does what they're comfortable with and everyone is always happy to receive gifts no matter how big or small!

One note: IF we find out that there will NOT be FISHIES outside our stateroom door, I suppose we'll change the name of the "extender exchange" to whatever it is. From interior pictures posted of the Dream the Fish Extenders look very much like the ones on the Magic and the Wonder, but we will not know for sure until January 2011 when guests start sailing on the Dream and post back information for others on these boards.

Participating in the Fish Extender Exchange is completely optional. Feel free to do or spend whatever you're comfortable with. As for the Fish Extender itself, some people buy them, others want to make theirs, whatever you choose is fine. The same rule applies to the "goodies"! You can buy or make them!

What is a fish extender exchange?

PORT CAMERAS
Some people like to view the Disney ships leave port. As the time was getting closer to our sail away date last year, some posters in the '09 thread would log on every Sunday to watch the Disney Wonder sail away. So, if anyone is interested in watching the Wonder or Magic sail away, here are the port cameras:

Port Canaveral Webcam
Two Palms Webcam

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Passports - do I need one?
Having a passport is ideal. However, a birth certificate with a valid photo ID will be permissible.

From DCL website:
Passport Information

Guests are responsible for obtaining proper documentation to board the ship. U.S. Government passport requirements continue to change; therefore, we strongly encourage Guests of all ages to have a valid U.S. passport for all cruises. Having a passport allows you to always be prepared to travel wherever you wish, and offers an added measure of security when you're traveling.

For air travel, however, the deadline was January 23, 2007. This means that all travelers, including U.S. Citizens and all foreign nationals, traveling to the United States by air, such as Guests flying to Orlando, Florida from Canada, are required to carry a valid passport after the effective date.

From Dept. of Homeland Security website (thanks eroinm (Michael)):
How will the final WHTI requirements affect passengers going on cruises?
U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises (cruises that begin and end at the same port in the U.S.) will be able to enter or depart the country with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID. A U.S. citizen under the age of 16 will be able to present either an original or a copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad issued by DOS, or a Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Please be aware that you may still be required to present a passport when you dock at a foreign port, depending on the islands or countries that your cruise ship is visiting. Check with your cruise line to ensure you have the appropriate documents for the stops you’ll be making on your cruise.

When can I book excursions, reservations at Palo, and/or register the kids for the kids' clubs?

120 days before the sail date if you are a Platinum Castaway Club Member (sailed with DCL 10 or more times)
105 days before the sail date if you are a Gold Castaway Club Member (sailed with DCL 5 or more times)
90 days before the sail date if you are a Silver Castaway Club Member (sailed with DCL once before)
75 days before the sail date for everyone

When is Pirate Night?

Pirate night on most cruises:
4 day Cruise on day 3 Tuesday Castaway Cay
7 day Cruise on day 4 Tuesday St. Marteen
(Information as of December 2010 and is subject to change)

WOW, you guys have been busy the last few weeks! I have a new job, so I haven't been able to get on the computer as much. I can't believe we are under 10 months now! We booked almost a year ago, so we had a LONG wait.
Welcome to all the newcomers! Here's a recap of us, my family of 5 (3 DD's 17, 12, and 7 at cruise time)are sailing in two connecting cabins. This will be our 4th and 5th (we are doing a B2B) Disney cruise, we are sailing with my brother and his family, as well as some friends of ours and their family, and our friends friends and their family. For a total of 26 people, I think.
Someone was asking about the Halloween events during October cruises...I don't know about 2010, but we sailed on the Magic the first week of October in 2009 and they had the Halloween "trick-or-treating", it didn't go well. The kids did a lot of standing around in line and most of the stations ran out of candy. It ended up being a waste of time (for us at least), which may be why they didn't do it this year. :confused3

I just booked this cruise. No idea who I am bringing with me. It will either be my DM or my DBF. He's not a big Disney fan so he may sit this one out. I booked room 12508. Its been a long year and this is my Christmas present/reward. Can't wait to get on the Dream and enjoy some Disney magic.

Booked a few months ago, sailing with DH, the best friends, and the Disney Dream Squad reunion! Ocean View cabin on deck 8! Can't wait!

Hello everyone!

We too will be joining you on October 2nd, 2011 on the Disney Dream or, as I like to call it, the "10th Wedding Anniversary Spectacular!"

We're departing our home in Arkansas on the 30th of September and spending two nights at the Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando. -- This is the hotel where we were engaged in 2000. This trip we'll have our 4 year old boy with us so we've splurged and decided to stay in the Seuss Suite. After a few days of Superheros, Dinosaurs, and Seuss we'll head back to the airport and hop on Disney Transportation to the port (long story -- little guy likes buses)

We're staying in a 5D veranda room near the back of the ship. (Haven't learned the nautical lingo yet). Not sure what else I can do to make it a special occasion for my wife but you can bet i'll be here researching all of the possibilities between now and then!

Mike
