10/15/2011 - Taking the West by Magic!

Sorry, totally forgot our names. Ok, so I'm Lisa, DH is Larry, DS 13 is Alex, DS 10 is Aaron and DD 8 is Alyssa or all other wise know as the tripleAclub. I'm think we might be interested in the FE exchange.. Just need to catch up on the emails to figure out what's all involved.

I've got your names added, if you're going to do the FE exchange, let me know, we're closing it out at the end of July so everyone can get their gifts together.

Ooooooooh..my bad! I thought u meant that I get those 8 hrs automatically as part of our cruise. HAHA. Yeah, I'm going to have to get our reservation info whenever hubby comes off duty and then call DCL.

ETA- do you all know in advance which nights are wich parties, dinners, etc.?

I don't off the top of my head, but I know the navigators that are linked in the FAQ sticky at the top of the forum will have them listed.

Good to know, thank you! I just find it a double edged sword that they want us to book in advance yet we have no idea when anything is planned lol.

My guess, and this is just my guess, is that there will be plenty of time available to book ad hoc on the ship. Since we're cruising in October which my kiddos have off for Fall break but a lot of places don't have a Fall break I'm thinking that we're not going to be full. Not a bad thing at all!

Yes,we're having to pull our son out of kindergarten for the week. I was just looking on DCL site and I'm assuming the site will change come Monday *Aug 1st* so that we'll be allowed to make our reservations. We're first time cruisers on DCL so we have to wait. But on a good note, we're already planning and preparing for our FE exchange! :cool1:

I found the Navigators you pointed out, and the March '11 Navigator tells me:

  • Saturday: Let the Magic Begin
  • Sunday:Heath Hyche Comedy
  • Monday: Twice Charmed
  • Tuesday: Villains Tonight
  • Wednesday: A movie?
  • Thursday: Disney Dreams
  • Friday: Remember the Magic
Dinners:cake:
  • Monday: Prince and Princess (formal)
  • Wednesday: Pirates IN the Caribbean
  • Thursday: Captain's Gala (semi-formal)
  • Friday: Till We Meet Again
Parties party:
  • Saturday: Adventures Away,
  • Monday: Captain's Reception
  • Wednesday:Pirates IN the Caribbean Deck Party

:worship: WOW~ thank you so much for all the info. I'm sure if I asked everyone's opinions on which shows/dinners/parties are a MUST, I'd get just about all of them haha! ;) I know we are planning big time for the Pirates night. Got costumes and ready to go on that for the family. Hard to figure out which ones to go with the little ones and which ones to consider Kids club/Flounders because they all sound amazing.

You know, I was thinking the same thing about the shows and kids clubs...it looks like the first and second nights are comedy shows. Anyone with little kids seen these yet? I know my DS8 and DD5 will probably want to see the character shows, but I'm not sure about these.

I also noticed the kids clubs have open house on the first night...does that mean we need to stay with them/can't check them in if that's where they want to stay? I have to say, I'm afraid I won't see my kids on this trip...when I told them they had a kids club with a whole ship deck practically to themselves, there was a bunch of whooping and hollering going on (especially when I told them that no parents were allowed in!)

Any reviews from previous cruisers? Thanks :)

Forgot to ask...

Since I'm still trying to navigate myself around the DISboard, I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I've been looking for some info on the baby nursery club. ANyone use it on the Magic? Have experience with it? Tips? Good/bad? I went in the FAQ but didn't see anything. My daughter is 2yrs old. Thanks!

I was checking our itinerary and noticed this:
Flounder's Reef Nursery

Flounder's Reef Nursery is open for select hours every day and space is limited. Each Guest is allowed a limited number of nursery hours per child based on the length of the cruise.
Children must be registered and meet eligibility requirements.
Nursery charge is $6 per hour for the first child, $5 per hour for each additional child (siblings only), and is charged to the shipboard account in which each child is booked.
A minimum one-hour charge per child applies for all nursery sessions less than one consecutive hour.
All prices are subject to change without notice.
Cancellations can be made up to 3 days prior to the cruise departure date. After that time cancellations must be done aboard ship and are subject to cancellation fees.

I hope this answers a few questions. Once you start to register you will get 4tabs to select from: Excursions / Palo Dining / Spa-Fitness / Nursery

 **For everyone** I just checked and there are still reservations available for Palo :yay:. Brunch, High Tea and Dinner. The Brunch is still avail for Monday at 11am. :thumbsup2

For shows, you'll get different answers for different folks, I've loved all of the shows on the Magic, and we try and always go as a family because even the kiddos love them. If we've got Heath Hyche on the ship, the kids will think he's hilarious in the family show (he'll do an "adults only" show in Rockin' Bar D later in the cruise). The only show that I'm just meh about is Villains Tonight, I loved the guy who played Hades on the Magic last year, but the show was just OK to me.

As for the clubs, Jillian has always loved them but your kiddos will be dissapointed, parents are allowed ;)

Jillian will be 2 months from 11 and is thinking she might want to see if they'll let her into Edge, I want to see what the makeup is, if it's mostly 12 and 13 year olds, then I probably won't be happy with that, if it's younger 11s and 12s, then I'll let her if Disney will.

:woohoo: Can you believe we are on page 20 :woohoo:

20 pages - look at us, it's like we're almost all grown up lol

seriously, in all of our excitement I forgot to tell you all our plans! typically when we cruise we opt for cheap options and tend to skip the spa and expensive excursions - well, given that this is the honeymoon cruise we are going all out....
At Key West we plan to snuba - as neither of us are scuba certified to scuba for real we thought this would be an interesting adventure.
Since we've so been looking forward to this, we've booked a couples massage at the spa for our first at sea day - we may even book more once on board, we'll see.
at Grand Cayman we are headed for the dolphin extreme swim and turtle farm - we thought about doing a day at Discovery Cove sometime before or after the cruise but decided to go with this excursion anyway (and maybe we'll still do a Discovery Cove day later on - maybe for an anniversary lol)
Cozumel is taking us on speed boats and a beach break - yay for beaches lol
for the 2nd at sea day we've scheduled ourselves a Palo brunch - I am a notoriously picky eater so we've never done Palo before and are looking forward to it
Finally at cast away we usually just chill out at serenity but we thought the sting ray adventure might be fun.

oh also we always go to dinner (we have the late dinner) and the show - so now that you'll know where we will be, maybe we'll see some of our awesome DISers :)

but sadly now its time to go do some :laundy: maybe I'll work on FEs instead, laundry can wait lol

haha your plans slightly resemble mine. :rotfl: DF and I are hoping to do a couples massage at the spa, too. DF told me that if I were to ever get him to do one, it'd be on our honeymoon trip, so I'm taking advantage of the oppurtunity.
We're also going to chill out on Serentity Bay, and I might do the sting ray adventure alone, because DF isn't interested.

We have the late dinner, as well, and are planning on seeing as many shows as possible on the trip. So I'm sure we're bound to cross paths with you guys eventually. :lmao:

So on the FE is it a daily exchange of gifts with everyone, just the kids or once. What's an example of the type of goodie thay might be exchanged. Sound like fun and I know the kids would love it.. but need to know how much I'll need to do.

Also are the wristbands still a go.

We're pretty easy going on our FE, it's whatever you want to do. Last year for the Med cruise I did gifts for each cabin, and then something for each kiddo, sometimes you get homemade items like bracelets or frames (check out the Handmade FE Gifts Photo Thread Here for some ideas if you want, but only if you have about a week to browse it! :scared1:

Sometimes folks will give candy or something that's specific to where you live, trinkets for the kids, really anything you can think of.

I think we've got enough interest to do the wristbands, I'll throw a list on the main page this week for folks with a count. From my research they can get these done pretty quickly, so we probably won't even need to order until mid September.

Hello to the newbies:dance3:
Did everyone get the excursions booked that they wanted?
We got ours booked and also brunch & dinner at Palo so were happy :)

I have decided not to join in on the FE.:sad2: We are up to 22 cabins in our first cruise and I have to watch the weight in our luggage for coming home. :thumbsup2 but there are a few of you signed up so I'm sure you are going to have a great time taking part.
Hope you have a great day :wizard:

I can totally understand the luggage issue and I'm not flying overseas for this trip! Glad to see you're still on board with us though, Jillian is looking at the list and figuring that your daughters are pretty close to her age :rotfl:

Thanks for the information...Ok... count us in on the FE.. I think the kids will love it and I'm already thinking of ideas..

We've not done our reservations yet since we can't book anything until Aug 1st (newbies and all that). We plan on booking our excursions outside of Disney and are thinking snuba on Key West and the StingRay City for Grand Cayman. I think we'll stay on ship at Cozumel. For Palo I think we'll do the brunch..
